I understand not everyone feels sound about this video. And for that I apologize. This was my first time editing in Primmer pro. And I wanted to figure out a way to make sculpting videos more interesting and exciting, so I tried something different. Unfortunately it wasn’t recognized for trying something new because I put a lot of love and work into this video. I’m just a goofy guy messing around on UA-cam. And the fact that you guys expect me to know what I’m doing is quite humbling. So I’ve taken your critiques to heart and implemented them into my newer videos. So thanks for being patient with me while I learn the inns and outs of this dynamic art form. Live long and prosper my friends 🖖

Dude your work are amazing!!!!But something that drove me crazy was that, you advanced and delayed the shot, we couldn't see the progress over time and that made me a bit crazy, but believe me, your work is great.

Sculpture Odyssey I disagree, I think the music and editing were great! Agree that it would be easier to follow if it flowed from start to finish but it made the sculpt really exciting! Well played

Agreed. Especially the flipping back and forth between stages just confused the hell out of me. And why didn't we get to see the finishing shot? Now I feel like I've watched it all without personal gratification. It looked amazing and I would have loved to see the end result.
That said, the editing was great still. Just not what I want to see in an art creation video :).

The editing was really great but personally I felt the switching from beginning stages to end stages to beginning stages to middle stages then back again really disoriented me and distracted from the sculpting.

    • @StampedingTortoise

Yeah I actually took inspiration from HBOs West World. Their editing is more non linear. I wanted to experiment to see if something like this works. No one knows every creative thread we just need space to explore what works.

Well I really do like the style, you did a very good job on it. If you're going to be keeping this style for the future obviously I would personally prefer no time jumps, but if I'm the minority there's no reason to pander to my likes and dislikes.

The art and the artist are the same with the editing to the sculpting. It's an expression, whether it has music or not or if the editing wasn't the greatest. It still reads the same...art at it's purest. You take it at face value and see how it makes you feel or not but that's what art does. It takes you to a place to think and try to figure out how you feel or what the artist was thinking, what he was going thru or what ever. To me the music and editing were great, blended everything smoothly together to make the Joker what he is..radical, controversial, distracting, playful and down right chaotic.

Really enjoyed this! Great stuff. I’ve just started working with Chavant clay a few weeks ago. It does take a long time to smooth out large areas. You think you have it, then switch lighting and it’s not as level or smooth as you thought! I have used a rake and then smoothed it with my fingers again. I’m a little reluctant to use lighter fluid or heating it, should I just bite the bullet and do it lol?

    • @StampedingTortoise
      @StampedingTortoise  4 роки тому +1

Yes definitely. But u want to use denatured alcohol. It burns with no soot. So it won’t blacken the clay. And then u can use some mineral spirits to smooth it even further.

@@StampedingTortoise I want to start sculpture (the last time I sculpted was in early middle school, 4 years ago except for little cosplay things I do for my sister) what would u recommend for someone like me who is just starting?

Awesome man! Sculpting is a great hobby! And I’d say the first thing to do is get familiar with anatomy. That’s going to help u in any project down the line. Wether it be creature/ stylized caricatures/ pop culture. Even armor. A lot of great video game armor follow the same lines of the anatomy.

@@StampedingTortoise I do have some experience in anatomy (I love to draw), but I do need to review and recap, thank you a lot!

I'm new to sculpting could somebody tell me what kind of clay this is?

Great job, you're very talented. I agree with everyone else about the jumping around ,and it seemed you showed too much of the same thing over and over. I would have also preferred either just music or silence, the audio was extremely annoying, I watched it muted. Sorry to sound so critical, just my opinion. You did a great job though.

Yeah I definitely see that now. (Face palm) lol I think I was staring at it so long that I didn’t even realize what I was doing. I don’t think ur critical. Thanks for the awesome critique. 😁✌️

Is this the hard clay of monsterclay and is a silicone impression without destruction possible.
    By the way Good job!

Thanks man! It’s the medium version of monster clay. Still really hard tho. And you still have to heat it up to use it. But u can definitely do a mold of it and it won’t warp at all. 😁✌️
