- "Beautiful lie" is the most difficult song that I have written and recorded. That also makes it the most honest one. It’s in the most vulnerable and honest way - me
The song signifies the struggle between knowing how something is so wrong and poisonous for u, but still wishing you could forget it all and live in a beautiful illusion, a beautiful lie..
I guess that’s why the song is so important to me, the raw emotions u feel in it, the different stages of fighting with yourself, knowing that in the end, you’re still gonna be powerless.

@@laurito2915 this is such a bs excuse. His performance was phenomenal and even if he'd mess up in Eurovision, everybody messes up, doesn't mean that they give up. Jaagup can hit those high notes and this song, despite those dumb copying accusations, is actually really different and beautiful. I don't think I'll ever get over this not winning.
Marge K The same thing actually happened to Merilin mälk “Miljon Sammu” If you listen to the original and the one in Eurovision she missed basically all her notes.
@@laurito2915 I agree about her but my ears definitely did not detect any noticeable wrong notes in Jaagup's singing. Also you really have to take into consideration that he was somewhat dancing throughout the whole performance.
Marge K and i actually agree with you I would loved him winning in Eesti Laul 2020, but I was just trying to understand the meaning of Uku Suviste winning even tho a lot of people said Jaagup would win.

I will never understand how this song fails to win the public in Eesti Laul 2020! This song is introspective and intimate. You can hear how much effort Jaagup has put in instrumentation and melody. This could easily contend to be the winner and Estonians have really missed out a gem here.

Feel like it is kind of a hybrid between Billie Eilish's ''When the party is over'' and last year's winner ''Arcade''. But I mean, that is what makes it good, both are masterpieces.
The most important thing to me is originality. It can have some small details similar to others, have a similar style, but this is just bad...

Actually this was written way before arcade and party's over were released.
Songs in a same time period tend to have similarities in style and might have a few cliche lines.
So honestly all this comparisson is baseless. Jaagup put a solid song this year.
Last year Estonia should've gone with "Pretty little liar" instead of "Storm" which was ok i guess, but severely lacking as an eurovision song :D

Something weird happened tonight. Estonia could have had a decent entry this year with a huge probability of passing to the final and reaching a high position overall. Whole package with a nice song and great staging. Choosing an outdated track over this? It's completely ridiculous.

@@KalaKala-wr8uh I'm not from Estonia, so I can't estimate the scale of this "drama" and its impact. Accusations of plagiarism are not an uncommon thing. But one should not forget about trends, genre features, inspiration, references, and so on. In fact, it is very difficult to find something truly unique and interesting nowadays. Especially in popular music and Eurovision. At least the performance of this song was more enjoyable to watch than the winning one.

Is this a tribute to Billie Eillish song "when the party is over"? Cause the beginning is pretty similar, and the line "call me friend but keep me closer" is from her song.
The fact that Billie Eilish used it in her song before Jaagup did, doesn't instantly mean she is the first to use that sentence. Quite a lot of sings use similar sentences.
@@dogcraftmc8968 It's ok to use it if the song sounds different but the way he sings this song, literally screames "When The Party's Over" and the lyric "Call me friend but keep me closer" doesn't help him at all. The songs are pretty damn identical in terms of sound/singing

This is the same idea but the difference is that the music is partially different except for the melody, also some lyrics align except for the rapping part in the original and the singing part from robin.
What I’m saying is that copying is not a new thing especially not in recent years, making new ideas can be hard and if you can’t do it you need to get inspiration from another artist.
