Having listened to Wagners Tristan and Isolde many times, and trying to understand the inspiration for the Tristan chord, this lovely telling of the myth truly helps. Of course, Tristan and Isolde made love on the ship, that sealed the deal forever. The power of love, but also the power of the sex act that consummated the love, all of that inspired one of the greatest operas and musical innovations of all times. Wagners personal life also had many Tristan moments. Your telling of the story was lovely❤️.

Like 👍 I named my child Tristan because I thought it was a nice name over all but strangers keep commenting “Oh like Tristan and the Irish Princess” and I’ve always been left confused 🤷🏻‍♂️ lol 😂 Thank you for sharing the story!

I saw the opera(which was way too long) but I struggled with the book too much to finish it. Middle High German was not my thing:')

Thanks so much for making sense of what I also attempted and fail to read. It was too much to read. But I made it at least 3/4 through it.

This is wonderful. But I'm pretty sure the painting labeled "Draper" of Tristan & Isolde is actually by the painter Edmund Leighton. isn't it?

Thanks so much for making this, I love Arthurian folklore! Do you think you will ever do Lancelot and Guinevere? Lancelot's battle with his own shame and self loathing , as well as his relationships to his son Galahad and to King Arthur make for a very tragic story. But I still can't decide whether Lancelot's or Tristan's story is the more tragic.

What makes Lancelot's story most tragic to me is that it resulted in the death of Gawain. Gawain being my favorite knight

I had no idea the story was this long and complicated. Hard to keep interest after the 3rd Isolde is mentioned, lol
