- ❤️ I hope you like my piano arrangement of Dave Grusin's beautiful score from the film "On Golden Pond" 🌅
♫ SHEET MUSIC: www.musicnotes...
This one is for my dear friend Katja .. on her birthday! ❤️ 💐
I used to play this as a child - I remember loving it SO much when I was about 9 or 10 ... When I made my cover of 'Vincent' recently, the chords reminded me of this wonderful music which I had completely forgotten about (both pieces are in G major) ... Anyway... I felt compelled to share it with you all. I hope you love it as much as I do. I'll have to watch the film again - I can remember the mood of it.. the call of the loons across the lake.. Katherine Hepburn’s voice.. a big trout named Walter .. all the Fondas .. but I don't remember what happens.. the music is so beautiful - Dave Grusin really made some magic with this score.

I believe this is one of top 5 best movie themes ever written. Nicely done.
Yes I agree Jason - it's just such a wonderful way in.. such a perfect invitation to the rest of the film .. such a perfect beginning.. I love it! Curious to know your other favourite movie themes 😊 John Williams is certainly responsible for some of my favourites.. "Jurassic Park".. "ET" .. I also love Morricone's "The Mission" score and John Barry's "Out of Africa".. Another theme I really love is "The Cider House Rules" by Rachel Portman.
Paul Hankinson yeah the John Williams stuff is great, plus Chariots of Fire, Love theme from St. Elmo’s Fire, For Your Eyes Only...to name a few. Dave Grusin also wrote the theme to St. Elsewhere show, which is great. But OGP is definitely my #1. Plus, that movie was filmed about 3 miles from my family’s cottage in New Hampshire, so that movie has lots of personal meaning as well.
I n d e e d. I agree w/ this post like 100% it's so unique/beautiful.
This opening song, for the movie. . . .so touching/soul moving. It's but one of my favorites💖 Piano/organ/Keyboard music. . . .is but some of my favorite kind of music. The acting in the movie, is truly award winning.
The best ON GOLDENPOND piano cover i've ever heard...

@@PaulHankinsonMusic EXCELLENT PAUL!!!! Thanks for the heads up. 😁😁
@@PaulHankinsonMusic How do you sell sheet music to a song that is not yours?
❤❤❤
Paul, this absolutely sent me back to age 19 when the film came out and my dad and I weren’t on good terms. One of the best film scores ever composed. Thank you so much for your rendition!
Beautiful
TheRealOomar thank you! 😊
Another nice surprise in such a short period of time, how wonderful! My ears and my soul are joyful and happy. :-) Thank you, Paul. 😍

Nice synthesia particles too!
Paco Gonzalez thanks!!
Paul, just a wonderful interpretation of one of my favourite pieces and composers. You have a great gift.
Absolutely beautiful ❤️
This was absolutely beautifully played...
Magnificent! When I first saw the movie sometime in the deepest darkest 80s, I fell in love with this piece. Played it many times myself, but your rendition is lovely.
Magic sound* magic hands* bravooooooo* utube smile by john bavas
Beautiful rendition. You make it look so effortless. Dave Grusin is certainly one of my very favorite composers. John Williams is the other.

Melanie Griesemer thanks!! ❤️
One of the most memorable movies and songs of my youth. Only problem with this video is, the hands or the person in the video clearly isn’t playing the song. This would be similar to lip syncing.
Hi Perry - I also love this movie and soundtrack so much - also from my youth. You are not the first person to suggest that I am somehow faking or miming in my videos - I can assure you I AM really playing - but instead of getting defensive or offended I'd like to try and explain why you might think it looks like I'm "finger synching" ... because... people who are passionate about music... and honesty... (like you) ... well these people are certainly not my enemies :-) ... When I make these videos, there are three elements involved. The first is the audio recording - which I can record directly onto a USB stick in my Yamaha Upright Piano (P121) with the Silent System built in - at the same time I run a midi cable from my piano to my computer and capture the MIDI information in ProTools. Then of course there is the video - which I record on my iPhone on a tripod atop the piano. The iPhone records at a variable frame-rate which means that at first the Audio WAV file from my USB stick and the Video file from my phone do not line up and are out of sync - which of course drives me bonkers! SO I have to run the video file through an app called HandBrake in order to change the frame-rate from variable to constant (29.97 frames per second)... THEN they line up. Phew. Then I take my updated video file, the audio WAV and the midi file into an app called SEE MUSIC which I can then use to generate this animation like in the video above (with the bars coming down and the dust particles and smoke effects etc) ... Although I do my very very very best to line up the audio, midi and video files it is possible that they are still slightly (a milisecond or two) out of sync. I sit here pressing play over and over again asking myself "is that right?" "is that together now?" - all because of this stupid frame rate issue. So that is one possibility.. as to why it might look ... off.. to you... but I can assure you that the video and audio are captured at the same time and it IS my performance and I AM playing! I've been playing piano since I was 3 years old and I've dedicated my life to it - I put a lot of love and time into creating these videos - because I want to share this music with people - and because it's my work .. and I really care about it.. there is a lot of doubt and anxiety and pressure and perfectionism involved too - sometimes I have to do many takes before I get one I feel happy enough with to upload. I would never fake or deceive my subscribers and viewers - I value SO much the community which has grown on my channel - and how kind everyone is - I'm so grateful for every click and comment. The only other reason it might look like I'm faking is the fact that the video is filmed from directly overhead - which kind of messes with the depth perception - it doesn't really look like the keys are going down .. it looks like I'm just touching the surface of them .. but that's just an illusion caused by the camera angle. If you are ever in Berlin, Germany - please come over for a coffee and I'll play "On Golden Pond" for you. I actually think it would be MORE difficult to successfully finger-sync than to simply play the piece. I have been asked to finger-sync before for a video of a track from one of my solo albums - and I understood that the producers wished to use the audio from my album - but it was REALLY HARD to play perfectly in time with something I had recorded months before - I hated it (even though the end result was nice) - I would never choose to adopt that approach for my own work. Anyway.. I wish you a good day.
🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷👏🏻, Loved it
Beautiful!
So happy I found you today
that's such a lovely thing to write, Marcy - thank you!

Sublime, just sublime.
Always makes me cry when I hear this...
Very, very beautiful peace, dont know why...
I would love to learn to play the piano. This would be my first song to play. Just beautiful!
never too late, Jeff! 😊
The music, and the performance are very moving. Great arrangement.
So beautiful. Played w/such feeling. Thanks so much for sharing this w/us Paul Hankinson.
Beautiful. Thank you
This is the best cover by far. I found one difference on the first page compared to your performance. If I buy the score and find more then would you be able to update the score? The reason is because I and my students would like to play exactly what you play and if they are performing in a competition then I don’t really want the judges pointing out that there are some misreadings in their study of the piece. Your performance is hypnotic. I just listened to you playing this piece 5 times in a row marvelling at the beautiful and, at times, ethereal quality of your sound and rubato. How would you feel about making a cover of the speedboat scene when the boy takes the boat out? It is more upbeat and might go well together in a piano recital as two contrasting pieces from On Golden Pond. I really think that the video and arrangement you made are two of the most important things on UA-cam. Thank you, THANK you!
Hi Michael! Thank you so much for your kind words!! I recorded this video playing from my own score after I had completed the arrangement - I certainly do my best to play my arrangements as accurately as possible as I know from experience how frustrating it is to purchase scores which are different or inaccurate. Of course I would be happy to update the score for you! Curious to know the difference you found - would you mind emailing me about it? hankinsonmusic@gmail.com
Also I love your idea to arrange the more upbeat, fun, almost hoedown style piece from the speedboat scene! Performing both pieces as a set would be wonderful! I get a feeling you must be a fantastic teacher!
Hi, Paul!
I just bought your perfect piano transcription of On Golden Pond. It has been planned for a piano recital which I should be giving next year. If you manage to complete the Speedboat scene then please let me know as I could potentially fit a few more minutes into the first half of the recital and the two ‘movements’ would work really well together. Thanks again for making this music available! Warmest wishes from England!
素晴らし過ぎて言葉にならない。感動です(涙)
どうもありがとうございます 💛💛💛
It speaks to my soul ❤
Still the best version Ive heard in years. ❤
I always look forward to your videos. Thank you Paul. 💙
In the future, would you be able to make an arrangement or wedding version of David Gray’s “This Year’s Love?”
Thanks so much Michelle! I'll listen to that song!
Beautiful!
AT 79 ITS MY THEME SONG!
Your best arrangement yet!
Perfect
This really is great. I have a razor sharp ears and you didn’t miss a voicing..all those nuances are there. Nicely done my friend. Sounds like you copped this off of the movie version. The version that is on the soundtrack album is actually a little different. The version they used for the movie is actually better. Great job.
gorgeous...sheet music please~! soon, it's for a birthday as well :)
Hopefully it will go up today - I have already sent it to be published so it shouldn't take long - That's so nice this will be a birthday present!
Hi again - just letting you know the sheet music is here: www.musicnotes.com/l/Cf2WP
Bought it and love it, Thank you!
I needed to find this song without the loon noises. Ty
You’re welcome. In this case the loon was playing the piano 😁
The similarities between Dave Grusin’s playing and Bruce Hornsby are strikingly similar. I love both of those guys. The use of those added ninths And those major ninths, suspensions, etc. However, Bruce Hornsby denies having been influenced by Dave Grusin at all, which I find kind of hard to believe.
Can you do a tutorial on this please?! I’ve been trying to learn this song for years....
Unfortunately, I play by ear. I was hoping to learn from your fingering. Could you make a video without all of the Liberace embellishments and replace the missing phrases?
How about you stop whining and go learn how to read music?
