The Furs 1st album truly impressed and impacted young artists with their moody, almost visual music. Evocative and sensual. Their blossoming has been a constant amazement. Saw them at Radio City the other night. Fantastic musicians and the experience was transcendent and inspiring. I felt quite healed by their set. A reprieve from the chaotic nightmare unfolding in our world.
Lovely Richard Butler! Can't wait to see the Furs in D.C.
Chicago this month! He's awesomeness personified, the Furs equally awesome
I saw The Psychedelic Furs in Orlando on Friday night. Loved them.
wonderful - I’m a hardcore Psychedelic Furs fan 🇬🇧so great to see this interview with Mr Butler and Chris 🥁🗣️👤
@@WestportLibrary ❤️absolutely and again thanks for sharing this - thoroughly enjoyed it here in 🇬🇧🍷✨
Same! This is awesome! Then I'll see the Furs at Salt Shed this month
So great to hear Richard Butler here.
Much as I loved Talking Heads, Chris Franz ain't no interviewer
I agree he is not like a chat show host but he is a fellow artist and maybe brings more out of Richard Butler than a professional interviewer might be able to
It’s so painful to listen to Chris’ question. And has anyone heard of a lapel mic! Holding a mic up to your mouth for an hour is excruciating.
Very awkward silence in between questions especially at first, painful to watch, but as the interview went on Richard more chatty and conversation flowed ,enjoyed it
Saw Richard Butler and The Psychedelic Furs in-concert just last night, in Dallas, at The House of Blues. They were fantastic!
I'm seeing them in a couple weeks in Chicago!
We love you!!
I'm delighted to learn all he's made of! 🖤 😎 ☠️ 🖤
@@jackdempsey9644 Yeah, I loved the show in Atlanta. They played so many of the older songs!
This is a very interesting interview. His comments about Warhol are like mine. The way he uses digital photography and photo shop to create the templates for his paintings. It’s a lot like using the old school camera obscura. Richard Butler is a true artist.
Pretty is pink. So many great memories. They were part of the soundtrack of my teenage years when I was traveling a lot and getting into all sorts of adventures. I always found their sound very mysterious and distinct, and I liked their image too. Can't we just go back to the 80s? 💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖
Steve Lillywhite and Todd Rundgren are probably the two greatest living record producers. PERIOD! Look at their catalogs and tell me if you don’t agree.
There's an element of the Chris Farley and Paul McCartney skit on SNL here, for those who know it. "Remember that time you were in the Beatles? That was awesome."
My favourite singer / frontman ever. Cheers Butler Rep!
Listening after seeing Butler and the Furs at Radio City two nights ago. He still sings incredibly well, and his art is just as moving as his lyrics.
Agreed, I was at that show as well. Could have used a little more guitar in the mix to give it that full Furs sound. Richard was in great voice. Great double bill as well
@@dougsthang Yes, it was a fun night. Butler seems genuinely amused by the reaction he still gets from the crowd. And I agree about the low guitar mix. Nice that Mars Williams seems healthy, as I know he had a serious scare.
World Outside Forever.
❤❤❤
Super awkward interview. I couldn’t get through it.
Yes, it was very hard to get through it but I powered through. I was hoping it would be more enlightening.
You did a disservice to mr butler
As an interviewer Chris Frantz could have tried for more relaxed and conversational format.
Chris Frantz seems to take a lesson in normalcy flanked by outrageous inappropriateness from the David Lynch school of deadpan surrealism.
Awkwardness, he is tough to listen to and has no reaction to answers which leaves everyone a little uncomfortable.
@@timelesswanderlust4639 - The fact that he is reading his questions is somewhat wooden- a bit distracting to see him just go through his sheet. On the one hand it’s thorough but on the other it comes off kind of mechanical. Most of my favorite interviews the interviewer makes it more conversational and less interrogational. Not saying these are bad questions or a dull interview, but Chris seems like a parent at a teacher conference.
@@ClueSign - The two bands have a distant history together as they played together back in the day, but really there wasn’t much of a connection. Richard is so English in his artistic flair for both singing and painting and Chris is so American in his normalcy. It’s like Rick Rubin, he is so normal it’s hard to believe how deeply he gets into his art. American sensibilities seem to belie the artistic qualities below the surface. Lynch is that way and so is Iggy Pop.
@@owenwilberforce6138 Yes, listening to this convo it was hard to believe Frantz went to RISD as he glossed right over Butler's art influences and reacted blankly to his citing of poets like Eliot and Yeats. I'm sure Frantz is a jolly nice fellow and he's a fine drummer, but Terry Gross he ain't. I don't know if it's American vs English or what, since Butler has lived in the States a very long time.
richard butler deserves points for simply not getting up & walking out.
chris franz is a disaster.
What an absolutely appalling interviewer! Richard has done really well to continue as he appears to be talking to a robot.
Frantz seems incapable of conducting a conversation, let alone an interview. RB deserves far better.
Richard Butler is Great! Unfortunately the production is awful - the lighting is bad, Chris Frantz plainly sucks and really brings the whole lecture down, cause he has absolutely NO PERSONALITY :-0 would like to have heard follow up answers from Richard, but Chris Frantz has no talent being a moderator. I think almost anyone would of done a better job than Chris Franz! We love Richard Butler and the Furs! :-) - Not Chris Frantz :-(
Awful interview and so Awkward at times alas,so so cringe worthy, you surly would be looking at your questions while the previous one was being answered, I think drumming and production is the place we're Chris is best
Chris Frantz should just stick to the drums, he sooo droll!!!
Thank you so much for uploading! I love Richard more and more!!🥰
