With the help of Publications in CATIA V5, one can make different geometrical features available for use in the specification tree.
One can publish a plane, a sketch or a parameter which is not readily visible in the specification tree.
In assembly workbench, during Contextual Design, Publication option becomes very useful.
In CATIA V5, go to Tools ↦ Publication
The Publication command is used to:
Publish a geometrical element
Edit the default name of the published element
Replace geometric element associated with the given name
Create a published element list
Import this published element list
Delete the published element
Following geometries can be published in CATIA V5:
Wireframe features (Points, Lines, Planes and Curves)
Sketches
Bodies i.e. part body, other bodies
Different Part Design features like Pad, Pocket, and Hole etc.
GSD features like Extrude Surface, Fill, and Join etc.
Freestyle Design features like Planar Patches, Curves etc.
Sub-elements of all geometrical elements like Faces, Edges, Vertices etc.
Advantages of using Publications in CATIA V5.
Publishing geometry has the following advantages:
Published geometry can be given a name which can easily be recognized e.g. in case of publishing edges, faces etc.
Publications are used to make a particular geometry easily accessible from the specification tree.
By using the required setting, only published elements can be used as an external reference if it is the requirement.
Publications are very helpful when replacing one component of an assembly with another because published elements having the same name are automatically reconnected during replacement. Else one would have to reconnect them manually if they were not published.

i published a feature in a part, i used that published item in many parts in assembly, can we find or list where the publication is used in a assembly.
In CATIA, we can’t get list where it is used. Best way to resolve this issue is before creating publication, change the name of the element by adding the name of part in the brackets where you are going use that element.
Is it possible to create links between 2 parts of different profiles?? If so where the points 0 reference will be taken for both the parts?
You can link or copy and paste with link element’s from multiple parts to single part and you can find the references in menu->edit->links
Sir, I have one question, While I am working in assembly design suddenly after some time previously created an axis system has changed in color from white to black, and because of this sketch color is also changed from white to black and it is visually disturbed. 1) I have checked all the settings. 2) I have checked all the properties of the axis system, bodies, and sketch. 3) I have checked the properties of the compass.
Now what should i do to get rid of this situation? please help me.
I am using CATIA V5R22 .
Did you check graphical properties of part or part instance and top product?
Just update the assembly.. It will be solved
Hello Sir I need Help
I am new to Catia V5
Problem is I got step file from somewher to practice mold design on CATIA v5 and the part is Already rotated in three Axies So how to align part according to datum planes in part Design.
There are various ways to manipulate the position and the orientation of the 3D geometry in the part document. You can use compass. Drag and drop the compass on the one of the faces of the object then right click on the compass and Select edit. Select the solid then in the compass edit window put x, y, z values zero and all angles also zero then click on the apply. Then solid will move to origin and align with the absolute axis directions. Let me know if it works or not.
