    Actually this film is from 1965-66 because it uses the slogan "See how much better an airline can be." The 1970s was the decade Eastern used the slogan "The Wings of Man."

      +John Eddy I agree. This was shot in 1966. If you look closely, the TD Centre is still under construction and it opened in 1967.

      John--->Later in the 1970s,I seem to recall hearing radio ads (on Toronto AM rsadio station CFRB 1010) for Eastern Airlines...where....I would hear a group of male & female singers singing "Going South?Go Eastern Airlines!"

    • @cjjrtoronto
      @cjjrtoronto 2 роки тому +2

      And was it circa 1978 that Eastern Airlines became the official airline for Walt Disney World?

  • @CusterFlux
    @CusterFlux 6 років тому +9

    This is most likely, a very well produced ( for the time ), late 1960s ( not 1970s ) ad, probably 1968-ish. ( though, it may have used slightly dated stock footage, which would make it look earlier than it really is ). But it probably isn't the 1970s, which actually makes it even cooler! Upper limit on the date is set by there being no Commerce Court South building, making this definitely pre 1972 - the main tower of the TD Center is shown, so this is definitely post 1967 - however - the BIG clue is - there's definitely no TD Center North! So unless they were using old stock footage - this is pre-1969 folks. And yes, Toronto was quite the city back in those days.

      Lol. There were! Except, there were no cameras on city blocks/building corners/doorbells or cell phones to record the footage. So you had to rely on the media and wait for the daily news to be informed .. *if* they actually reported it. No instant posts on UA-cam. We just heard about it less back then :)

    Can't be 1970's. I only see the first of the TD towers in this, built in 1967 (the second North Tower was finished in 1969). Also the fashions and cars are later 1960's. Glorious to watch this. All that modernism was so shiny, new & clean.

    I grew up in Toronto during this time, so crisp and clean...with room to breathe !
    ...and all I want to say is that someone should
    have Fast-Frozen the city so it would remain like 1967....instead of morphing
    Into the overcrowded disorganized mess of today....

      You have to be living in fantasy land if you truly believe that Toronto is safer now than it was 20-30 years ago. You can't have hundreds of stabbings and be setting a historic record high in number of shootings this year and still believe that Toronto is safer and less violent today than it was several decades ago.
      There are many crimes and violent incidents that are often not reported and if you want proof of that all you need to do is go to the Toronto subreddit and see the number of stories people report on that subreddit and then see how many of them make the news.
      Heck a little over a week ago for example there was this black guy who was walking around yelling racial slurs at people and assaulting them and then running away. This happened to several people before he was caught.
      globalnews.ca/news/7410438/toronto-man-hate-motivated-assaults-scarborough/
      These racist attacks WERE NEVER reported on nightly news because the perpetrator and the victims were of the wrong races. Can you imagine a white person committing these acts of violence against several minorities and others and NOT have it be the first news story the media reports for weeks on end? Cmon now you know the answer to that one. Things ARE getting worse and the media are doing more to cover it up and you have to be living under a rock not to realise this.

      Yeah 70s design in general is pretty awful. Although we actually got off lightly from that garbage era compared to other cities (Los Angeles for example destroyed so many of their Art Deco stuff for stucco ceilings and earthquake proofing). Toronto was maybe a little too in love with Eastern Euro influenced Brutalist style compared to other cities. We have a lot of those here.
