I'm gonna need Luigi to save me from these spooky ghosts.
Luigi, Frightened Exorcist [1][G][W] {2/4 Legendary Human Plumber} - Reach - Whenever you unlock a door, exile target spirit, demon, horror or nightmare. Luigi gains +1/+1 for each spell exiled by this effect.
With that wording, Luigi will never get +1/+1 because permanents aren't spells.

@@JasonOshinko It's just subtle semantic differences. Almost every card played that''s not a land is a spell while on the stack, including permanents such as creatures and enchantments. If you change the wording on the Luigi card from "spell" to "card", it'd mostly work. I say mostly because it's probably better / cleaner to have the second part be a trigger; something like ""whenever a CARD is exiled this way, put a +1/+1 counter on Luigi".
There is going to be a game in this format where someone uses Niko to blink Overlord of the Mistmoors, and the opponent is just gonna concede on the spot.
Unfortunately (or thankfully) that will never happen. Niko specifies nonlegendary

Worth noting that the overlord's 'enter' abilities won't trigger from the shards copying them since the shards themselves already entered previously and becoming a copy doesn't count as entering...
...But you're *still right* that this play is essentially an insta-win because the overlords trigger on "enters or attacks" and you can just immediately attack with the shards to get 2x (or more if you've been blinking Niko) attack triggers, and then another enters trigger after the overlord comes back from exile. So for the white Overlord that's a reasonable floor of SIX extra 2/1 flyers for 2 mana, along with a temporary pair of 6/6 attackers - and then if your opponent doesn't interact you can do the same thing again next turn.
I wish the Niko card wasn’t so ugly to look at.
Swarmweaver was not on my short list, but he makes a lot of sense
With the overlords i feel like the blue one shoyld have been in honorable mentions with the black one, shure he is efficient and there is a gy theme but even then the red and the white one feel out if leage in comparison
Swwarm Weaver is basically Writhing Crysalis so it's busted :p
@@soprettymuchthatsthewayitis i am lacking that specific context but i saw pia and kinan nalaar (i think that was the name) without the sac outlet and thought good but not busted, but considering delirium is a set mechanic and the buff applying to other creatures i for sure underrated it
@@Shimatzu95 Writhing Chrysalis is a common from MH3, and was the 8th best *card* in the set. 2RG for a 2/3 with reach and devoid. ETB it made 2 0/1 eldrazi spawn with [sac: add {c}] and whenever you sac an eldrazi put a +1/+1 counter on it
your comparison is probably more apt since chrysalis didn't make fliers but shamnyways xd
You're not crazy, big blue has no business in that number 1 slot, but can debatably make the honor club. Blues card draw effect looks great when it's on the typical 2-3 cost blue/red weenies you see it frequently attached to but on 5 cost with double pips and toughness that doesn't exactly scream resistant to creature removal... I'm calling foul on that pic. Playing that Black room Turn 3 is about 10x better value for the card advantage alone, not to mention that those extra cards draws you're paying the 4 life for up front practically guarantees you'll have the mana to open up the other half turn 5 on the dot, which from there has you drawing cards that you're opponents paying the life for until he can remove your 6/6 demon plus any other demons you have on the field. 6/6 flyer for his 5 mana plus access to card draw plus life gain the following turn and being too large for most damage removal spells to deal with Trump's that flying librarian 10 fold. Arguing that neither cards card advantage comes at acceptable cost for limited format would be a much stronger argument than any kind of snake oil pitch you may imagine that tries to place the floating Eldritch boom nerd in the top spot. Seriously. Swap out the blue for the black overlord if you really need the 1 spot to have 3 Overlords on it. And it's basic rule of thumb since alpha that anything that can be killed instantly by a lightning bolt can't be a bomb. Especially as a flyer makes him vulnerable greens bag of instant kill flyer tricks. How big blue doesn't come with at least ward 1 or that discard drawback is beyond me.
Blue overlord is great. very efficient body and it’s always at least +1 vs removal. Idt it’s ever worth impending tho (unless u need to hit land drops)

I know he got an honorable mention, but the balustrade wurm has been outstanding for me! Immediately applies pressure, trades for either premium removal or a couple creatures, then comes back and does it all again! I've won every limited game that I draw him in.
I’m probably just getting old and cranky but all these new mechanics drive me crazy. I like the evergreen mechanics like trample, flying, etc. and I like treasure and a few other select mechanics but blood tokens, the “roles” from eldraine, these shard tokens, whatever the 1/1 baby mechanic from bloomburrow is (offspring?)…it’s too much! I’m no game designer, though, so don’t ask me what the proper balance should be 😂
I hate being at prerelease and having to use art cards and spare lands as tokens bc everything makes tokens nowadays and they dont provide any in the kits - just some in packs

Well at least Silent Hallcreeper was mentioned honorably. Every time I dropped it during my pre release event it was blown up by the next turn. My opponents certainly made sure that it wouldn't trigger more than once.
I want that Roller Coaster for my mono red deck!

kind of, you risk to bleed yourself out twice as fast, but anyway it's better to get the card at the end of your turn and _hopefully_ cast it in your opponent's turn rather than waiting to your upkeep. And *that's just the floor / worst case scenario*
not strictly since the floor is 2 life lost per turn, but the ceiling is an awful lot higher.
You take twice as much damage per turn, which is a significant downside. It means if you can't stick a demon then your clock is a lot shorter. The upside on this card is obviously huge though.

Would love to see a top 10 on Magic's worst cards with the best flavour! I think cards that 100% hit on the flavour/effect the card depicts are really cool, but often not very good powerful. I think it would be cool to see some cards that win at flavour but suck functionally
Direction Tools is my pick for number one. When I have played that card, I have won 100% percent of the time. Kinda like a Batterskull
Yep, it should have been on the list for sure. I compared it to Batterskull in the set review, but gave it a B+ because I was thinking the equipment cost would be problematic sometimes - but it just isn’t.
I've seen it like 15 times and lost to it 14 times.
Yeah the equip cost worried me at first but it was never an issue.
Does hexproof counter abilities and /or spells on stack, that target a permanent (when i give my creature hexproof as a answer to target removal)?
Yep, as long as you do it in response to the targeting effect
i am considering attending the pre-release of Duskmourn at my LCS... I've been a MTG player since january 2024... but been focusing on Lorcana since April-May 2024 after my March Duel Commander tournament that took all my free time learning the game and play for that big tournament... now I am off this frday and Duskmourn would be my first ever pre-release night. But it's complicated affording it. Woudl it be worth it compared to recent sets? I worked before on fridays, I'll be off for the first time in 7years on a friday

I've been going to the pre-released recently, they're a ton of fun. If you can attend, I'd say give it a shot! There's worse ways to kill four hours than three rounds of magic and six boosters.
You won’t regret it dude. Prerelease is a blast, I’ve never had a bad time at one.
Prerelease is only like $35 and includes 6 boosters, a promo, a spin down, and chance to win more boosters by winning. It’s totally worth it.
You're sleeping on Enduring Innocence. It is the premiere "sucks to your aggro" card in the format. For 3 mana you get to chump/trade, gain life, and still keep an enchantment that draws you a card when you play a smaller creature, which probably didn't cost much mana, which means that you have a decent chance of being able to play the card you drew, too. From losing to stabilized to winning on a single 3 mana card.
Although, being fair, aggro doesn't seem as powerful in this set as some recent ones. Hopefully that stays true, if not then it's all about the sheep.
So could you use Waltz of Rage on a deathtouch to kill all units that way too? Or is that incorrect?

Overlord of the flood pits looks alot like Anima from FFX
The only real bomb is that they are making 'Sacrifice' playable in modern. Imagine having 4 life left, and then you play 'Shadow of mortality', use 'Sacrifice' on it, and then you have 15 floating black mana to do whatever you want with. Basically a late game 'dark ritual' except it is 5 times stronger.

This one time the guys cleared my board. And then i top decked season of lost and pick first mode 5 times. Making them sac all their creatures 😂😂

I think you’re underrating Overlord of the Hauntwoods. It’s a 3 mana create a 5 color land.
In any 3+ color deck that’s on par with rampant growth or cultivate.
Then in 4 turns it becomes a 6/5 body that creates a 5 color land every turn.

waltz of rage seems kinda overrated 5 cost with you needing a monster with high atk to destroy all other monsters for it to be a board wipe isn't that amazing. the card draw needs you to destroy your own monsters too, so its pretty much just a win more card that's useless when top decked in a bad situation.
you’re overlooking the fact that it leaves ur best creature in play. that’s pretty huge
Its hard to play around and you will almost never expect it
It definitely seems like an awkward card - if your biggest guy can't wipe their board then it's probably uncastable. There is also the risk of getting blown out by instant speed removal. On the other hand, sweepers seem extremely strong in this format with so many tokens and manifests floating around. I think the fact that you can control how much damage it does if the board is locked nudges it more toward being a bomb, it's hard to say how this will really line up though.

It's ok to point out a "problem" (let's call it a problem), that's the "pars destruens" of an argument (the "destructive" part), but what is your "pars construens" ("constructive part") which completes a critique making it a "constructive critique"?
Pretty sure he's cool with trans people so I doubt he was intentionally avoiding saying anything.
Saying I was "trying to avoid using they/them" pronouns makes it sound like I don't think that people should use them. But I wrote a story article for Card Kingdom when I used them a lot with Niko that should prove otherwise and have used 'they/them' many times on the channel too.
The truth is much less nefarious. These top 10 bomb videos are always unscripted (unlike most of my top 10s), and my hesitation there was me forgetting the name of the card and needing to find it on my screen.
