  • Age, challenges and solidarity: the spirit of the Barcelona marathon in the testimony of four runners.
20,000 runners celebrated the 45th Barcelona Marathon yesterday, marking another milestone in the history of this emblematic sporting event. In the video report that can be seen above, we interview four participants who embody the essence of overcoming the marathon: Xavi Moya, Abel Fernández, Abigail García and José María Cheliz.
Seven years ago, Xavi Moya left behind a life marked by drug and alcohol consumption, as he found his salvation in sport. For him, marathons are much more than a competition; They represent a daily victory over addiction and a reminder of the beauty of life.
Abel Fernández, known as Spiderman among his running mates, joined the solidarity cause of the AEFAT Association, dedicated to supporting families affected by ataxia telangiectasia in Spain. Their commitment goes beyond the finish line, demonstrating that running can be a powerful tool for social change.
Abigail García is a tireless runner who has an impressive 52 marathons under her belt. With a goal of reaching 100, Abigail is an example of perseverance and determination for all runners, regardless of gender or age.
Finally, José María Cheliz is the oldest and most veteran runner of the marathon, he claims to have finished each and every edition from his first race to date. Since his first marathon in 1980, José María has found in this sport a source of emotional balance and physical well-being that has kept him active and vital for decades.
These stories show us that the marathon is not just about reaching the finish line, but about the challenges overcome, the solidarity shared and the unbreakable spirit of the participants.
