    He was great in Schrader's Master Gardener. Definitely one of the most underrated films of 2022. Why are so many of Schrader's films so underrated? I mean, I know they tend to do well critically but they become way too forgotten to time & he's made some masterpieces.

      Most of Schrader's films are very similar. That's a big reason why. I understand what he is trying to explore, but it's not everyone's cup of tea to watch that type of character over and over.

    • @The56567878
      @The56567878 6 місяців тому +5

      Seriously. People don't give him enough credit for the variety both in his style and in character. Show someone that doesn't know Scharder Mishima, Light of Day, and Auto Focus, and there's no way they'd know they're from the same person
      He's made 23 movies, and only like 4 of those could be classified as the journaling guy in his room movie (5 if you want to count mishima), with 3 of those being in the last several years. And the pickpocket ending is something he's only done three times. I don't know why some people like to pigeonhole him so much

    Edgerton is the type of actor that has consistency to everything he does. In almost all features i have seen Joel in he always brings his game to the big screen. Some actors you can see that their heart is not in it but not with Joel. Even if the feature ona whole might not work for me i can always rely on Joel giving me something good. I think my favorite so far is his own feature THE GIFT. A psychological thriller drama.

      It was a film ahead of it's time in 1992...the ultimate abundance of "reality TV" hadn't really happened yet...and the movie seems kind of prescient now. Watching this video evokes a very poignant feeling. I haven't bought a DVD or Blu Ray in a long time. I haven't looked at the stats but I keep hearing that physical media is slowly disappearing and the rise of Netflix and streaming services means that so many great movies out there may never be accessible eventually, you are simply told to watch what the curators at Netflix and other streaming services tell you to watch. There's something really comforting about watching someone standing in a little closet full of DVDs and browsing through them. Listening to the rattle of the disc in the case, the crinkling of the shrink wrap when he turns the DVD over in his hands, the shuffling of feet on the floor is really quite delightful.

    Honest, intelligent guy. Refreshing to see picks not based on any "agenda", just curiosity and great filmmaking, which is as it should be.

    Very nice. If he likes films that make people uncomfortable I am surprised he didn't take a copy of Shoah.

    Midnight Train. Can’t beat an actor who plays under the radar

    After he mentioned Man Bites Dog I was expected a Bad Boy Bubby shout out. Nope. Then I came to find out it's not apart of the Criterion family. Hopefully one day.

    An Edgerton sounds like someone who is really good at showing restraint at the point of climax.

    I am from Northampton, and when I watched Kinky Boots I was sure the lead was also from Northampton!
    Mr Edgerton nailed that role and the accent. I am a straight guy and I don't really have any feel-good films in my collection apart from this one... which is a film essentially about a transvestite.
    Masterful casting and performances all round from Joel Edgerton, Chiwetel Ejiofor and Sarah-Jane Potts who is so cute it hurts!! 👍🏻🇬🇧

    Even if he’s stating that his knowledge of film history is limited, you can tell that he’s learned from those encyclopedic individuals, and has an intuitive understanding and sense of taste. Could’ve fooled me. Very very good picks

    Underrated actor, criminally so. Just look at his work in GATSBY, for example. All-star cast and yet he steals every scene.

    if I had the money these stars have I'd go online or to a store and order criterion's entire collection in one go, yet, these stars are surprised at seeing most of these titles, and never say "I already have all of these", they seem to miss titles super well known (imagine not having wages of fear!) , and this guy is not like he's 20, he's 49!! I don't get it
