They no longer have their 5th Amendment protection, so now they HAVE to confess to all their wrongdoings if brought in to testify, otherwise they can be arrested for Contempt of Congress and/or Perjury, which means they could very well be locked up in the Federal-level bootyhouse for a long-ass time.

The Supreme Court has to recognize this will be used to justify the most heinous things if allowed to stand. The Republic is officially over if DJT doesn't challenge this and/or the Court doesn't intervene, particularly when Biden was declared unfit for trial a while back, calling his authority into question even further.

Some people brought up some really good points, how can a preemptive pardon hold up if there were no charges to pardon against? Innocent people don’t need pardons because the assumption is that no crime was committed. So that begs the question; what specifically are these people being pardoned from? We all know the answers and I sincerely hope that the Supreme Court considers this question very carefully.

It is, unfortunately, well established. Somehow, everyone is forgetting GeraIdFord pardoned RichrdNixon, who stepped down before he was impched (formally charged), let alone convcted. The key thing here, though, was ol'Joe being declared unfit-for-triaI a couple years ago. It's a small-crack that could be used in a situation that would otherwise have zero chance.

@calvinhobbes6118 if that doesn't happen it sets a precedent whereby government are effectively outsourcing all the illegal actions they wish to commit by putting their bent people in roles and then pardon them. Legalising criminality. That is not a democratic society, its a mafia state.

I don't think this will hold up in court. You can't just issue a general pardon? What time frame does it cover? Which crimes? Past crimes or crimes they may commit? A pardon should be issued specifically for crimes you have been convicted of.

  • @thegrim418

That can't be legally permissible. You can't be pardoned or aquitted if never charged with a crime. A "pardon in case of crime" isn't legally possible. Now the real question is, "will the courts and right challenge this to make things right or let it stand as precedent for their own corruption later"
