Folkemødet 2024: Advancing Nordic-North American Collaboration in the Arctic

The Arctic is facing unprecedented challenges caused by rapid warming. The challenges have significant implications for the environment, local communities, and global geopolitics. To develop actionable solutions that safeguard the welfare of Peoples of the Arctic and the ecosystems, it is essential to facilitate the exchange of knowledge, best practices, and innovation across the region. The Nordic countries are known for their close collaboration, but as last year's cooperation pledge by the Nordic and Canadian Prime ministers demonstrates, there is much to gain from strengthening ties with North America. In this high-level session, we will explore how stronger collaborative efforts between the Nordic Arctic and the North American Arctic can accelerate the development of innovative solutions to complex Arctic issues, promote sustainable development and environmental protection, amplify indigenous voices, build resilience, and contribute to regional stability.
