  • Did you know that the last execution of the Second World War actually took place over 40 years after the conflicted had come to an end? Feodor Fedorenko was a Soviet soldier who was captured and then became a Trawniki man and an executioner for the German Army. His actions resulted in the executions and deaths of thousands as he worked at sites such as Treblinka Extermination Camp. He was also part of firing squads who executed civilians inside of the Soviet Union.
Feodor Fedorenko at the end of the war managed to escape capture and he even moved to America where he was discovered. A trial in American proved very little, but he was then extradited to the Soviet Union and he was tried again and was sentenced to death. He was executed by a firing squad in 1987 for his conduct during World War 2.

The statute of limitations should not apply to murder, in particular war crimes. If Fedorenko had been spared execution because of his age, the message would be that if you evade justice for so much time, you earn immunity.

I thought that the USA was the only country that has a ‘Statute Of Limitations’. Such a concept doesn’t exist in many other countries for criminal cases. It is mostly for civil cases.

The point of such statues is that evidence degrades over time, particularly eye witness testimony, and convictions can be unsafe. People's memories are falliable even after a short period of time. Something that was just a rumour or belief can easily become a fact in people's minds, complete with a whole backstory. Defendants also potentially lose their ability to defend themselves as evidence in their favour at this point has often been lost.

The Soviet Union was a Country that had no qualms with carrying out executions, regardless of the decade or world opinion. Even with the war ending 40 years before, Fedorenko was still a war criminal and murderer. That sealed his fate.

Where were the Soviets who engaged in murder in Poland? Why was their "justice" so corrupt? Perhaps its just a Russian character flaw?

I commend the Soviet Union for having executed Feodor Fedotenko for the pivotal role he played in the murder of 900000 Jews at the Treblinka extermination camps. Here over 5000 Jews were slaughtered everyday within two hours upon arrival and less than 2% of each transport survived. In this regard the Russian Federation as the successor of the Soviet Union has nothing to apologize for. Thank you very much and enjoy your evening 😊😊
