My husband and I switched off. It was my research but he helped me with the filming. I filmed most of the time when Kodé di Dona was singing and the drinks were being passed around!
@It’s really a chance you had and especially super smart to have filmed for us who were not born at that time to be able to see this today, thank you very much 🙏🏾🙏🏾
@@patrickvarela-lb3dg You are welcome. I was doing research for a PhD dissertation that I wrote on batuku and funana at Brown University (1997). I have more footage of both batuku and funana from that time that I will probably post. I did have permission from the musicians to record them. Ano Nobo and Kodé di Dona set up the musical festa for us quite deliberately. It was a special day and we all had a lot of fun.
If you know who the people in the video at the Festa in São Domingos are, please add a comment with their names and the time on the timeline when they are seen. I know Ano Nobo, Kodé di Dona, (and me and my husband) but who else? The male batuku dancer was Francisco and Dona Ina was the name of the batuku leader, I think. I believe that Ntoni Denti d'Oro's daughter Paola danced with my husband, and the woman with a baby was named Lou. More names? Which of Kodé di Dona's sons played Ferrinho? Who is in the footage at Ano Nobo's house? It would be good to honor them by including their names. - Susan
