I have my para 3 coming in the next week. I already have the deep carry pocket clip for it. Spyderco did bomb on the lanyard hole for sure. I have 2 Spyderco Manix 2's one lightweight, and one G10, and love them both. We will see how I like the para 3.🇺🇸
Regarding the "need" to immediately take apart a new knife,.... there are lots of reasons to do so besides working on the pivot area. A few weeks ago I picked up a like new used Para 3 for just $93 , and what immediately jumped out to me was the SHARP knife-like edges on the inside lip of the scales! Urgh,..WHY? The factory saw fit to bevel the outer G10 edges, but for whatever reason most new Spyderco's leave sharp inner scale edges.... The outer edges could be smoothed up and rounded over a bit more for my taste also, and disassembly was not required for that. So I did the hair dryer "prep" to break the red locktite, and got it apart to smooth and round the inner G10 edges using a 1/2" sanding drum with 320 grit on a flexable shaft machine, followed by using a steel rod as a burnisher/polisher to those edges and a blending at the 1st point where the gripping roughness starts. The burnisher treatment gives much more control over the polishing step, and you won't polish off areas further up on the scale and remove some of the gripping texture where you didn't intend to. While apart I also did the same smoothing/rounding to the outer edges, just because it is easier while apart. While apart I added a nail groove to the release lever, to be able to "pinch" the release tab to the scale without added friction to the pivot, and rounded the sharp corner of the release tab as I prefer. I also like to use a little moly paste/oil mixture on my knife pivots and washers, as it offers better wear prevention over time. I use the Air Rifle Headquarters custom blend of moly paste, and have for maybe 15 years or so,...the 2 ounce jar lasts a LONG time! This paste stays on the detent ball track and hole a lot better than just oil, and in that area I use it unmixed with any oil. I use it on the liner lock face also. www.airrifleheadquarters.com/catalog/item/251484/42989.htm So basically,.... lots of reasons for wanting to get a new knife apart, to spend the time the factory can't to keep the cost down to a marketable level. Imagine what these would cost if the factory spend a few hours in hand finishing time doing what a knife enthusiast can and enjoys doing! :-) Joe T Ti Rod Tactical
I think it would have been better if they ditched the lanyard tube altogether, or used one like the Delica. I wanted something similar to the PM2 but smaller. Considered the Para 3, but ultimately went with the Lil' Native.
I think it's a great knife, .125" blade stock would've been nice, but not a huge deal. Add a MXG(blue4you) deep carry pocket clip and that issue is taken care of. I think the MXG clip(short model) fits better in the hand anyways and have it on most all of my regularly used Spydercos. The Para 3 for me mainly sees use when I need a slightly more compact knife. Love the Delica in ZDP and the Native 5, but my most used Spyderco in this size range is a Lil Temperance.
As a fan of the Military, it's definitely not for me. A choil on a 3 inch knife is almost always silly to me, and it's what killed the PM2 for me (and I've owned 2!) Great quality and a sturdy lock, I just don't care for the design features on the small ones!
Luc Albert I agree, the compression lock is a favorite of mine. My Lil Temperance is one of my most used knives. Looking forward to the rerelease of the Lil Temperance as well as the Caribbean coming up. I'd really like to see Spyderco convert some of their lineup to compression locks.
I think had the Para 3 came out before the PM2...People would have been a lot more excited about it. But the PM2 has just been beaten into the ground as far as popularity. They're great knives, just old news.
Massively overpriced. Almost any small knife (Rat2, K-Bar Dozier etc) will perform equally well at a fraction of the cost. Save your money and don't subscribe to the hype........
My favorite knife for work, great utility knife. Looks strange but the ergonomics are amazing and it's a great slicer.

Thankyou for the info you made my mind up. Para2 for sure

The Spyderco Sage 3 or 5 is on my radar and yes I agree you really shouldn't be taking apart a brand new knife .If there's a problem send it back.

I agree that Spyderco can get a bit "choil" happy lol
People thilought it would be cheaper in price. Not by much. Price killed it imo.
if only the Native had had a compression lock

Luc Albert agreed
Dubglock23 me too..
I honestly don't mind the backlock on the Native....they get pretty darn smooth in time.
Luc Albert the lil' native has one.
Another option instead of the para3 ?? maybe manix2 ??
Felisito por est modelo es el q mas me gusto
Not For Me Either. No Blade Restrictions Here In My Part Of Florida. (Up To 4" Blade On Folding Knifes).
really appreciate the video
the lanyard tube isn't flush. the para 2 is a better blade.
Love that your order was 5 - 4 - 3 - 2
I should probably work on that....
They wanted to reiterate the succes story of the Endura-Delica pair.IMO,they failed.By the way,i would love to see a XL Dragonly...
They should have just made a G10 Delica in S110V and called it a day.
My sentiments exactly.

The para 3 is too small . feels like it's smashing your hand.love my paramilitary 2
