The Maven filters are great, I've been very happy with them. The new Dark CPL's are great for a person like me that sometimes likes to stack filters on my widest lens and not go a size larger. And while I know the 14-24 is an amazing lens, I've never admitted that one of the reasons I am pretty content with the 14-30 (which I do think is a solid lens) is that the filter size on the 14-24mm I find problematic - size of the filters and the jump in money to outfit yourself with a set of filters. Isn't it like a 110 or 112 filter or something?
No kidding! Given most of my reservations for the 24-200 are centered more on the lack of reach than not being wide enough, this 28-400 seems like a really solid option! I did pre-order one this morning!

I use a Z7II with a Z24-200mm quite often. I do macros with the Z7II with stacking but with WeMacro rail and Nikon SU-800 with three SB-R200 with defused filters
It can be a pretty solid combination! I've only dabbled with macro photography, and certainly not an elaborate setup! It was fun, but wow - whole new area of skills to learn and practice!
Good luck, you're brave only taking one body and lens. I'm going to Iceland in May for likely my only trip there. I wouldn't trust one lens and body for that trip. I've never had any issues with the Nikon Z7II but I'm taking the Z8 as well. In the past, I've taken the 24-200 with 50mm and 20mm primes. I think on this trip since it's a once in a lifetime visit, I'm going to take a 20mm prime, the 24-120 Nikon and a Tamron 70-300 for puffins. I'm debating a 50mm prime, but I don't want the bag to get too heavy. I might only take the 24-120 and 70-300. Good luck.
It does make me a little nervous! I usually carry backups for nearly everything! If I was doing a once in the lifetime trip, with photography as the primary reason, I would certainly be taking my normal setup! But for this trip, it is really more for family purposes with me having small bits of time to head out for some photography in the early morning most likely. And if I end up having something break - you'll all hear about that in a future video - something like "Regrets of only taking one lens and one camera body!" ;)
@@JeffreyTadlockPhotography I know you mean. I was on an Alaskan cruise last summer with family and friends and I took one camera body and 2 lenses. I had going anywhere without at least one fast prime. I do agree with you though that the Nikon 24-200 is a very good travel lens. I've taken it to Europe twice on cruises and didn't regret it. Thanks! Fast primes are great too, often reasonably sized and easy to fit into a bag as well. They are unfortunately a lens I don’t really own. I have a 105mm prime from Sigma, but it is an f-mount and have to use an adapter - and a bit more of a portrait/headshot lens for me when I do use it.
@@JeffreyTadlockPhotography If you do ever think about a prime. look at the Voigtlanders for the Z system. They are manual focus but if you're shooting landscapes, it really doesn't matter. The 50mm F2 APO is an incredible value of a lens.
Handy is the perfect descriptor for the 24-200mm! I think it will work out great on this trip and do just what I need. I just saw the new 28-400 rumors! That could be a pretty great lens as well! I actually really like the 100-400mm focal length range, so that’s the biggest con to the 24-200mm is missing out on that extra reach, but a 28-400…

It is a little unnerving! My normal carry for a photography purposed trip is more like 2 camera bodies and 3 lenses that cover me from 14mm to 400mm! So one camera body and one lens does cause a little anxiety. But for this trip, despite what I tell myself, I bet I only get 4 hours or so of dedicated landscape photography from the whole trip. I think between being able to do panoramas if I find myself wanting a wider scene and having some crop room because of the z7ii that it will work out. Hopefully I don't have to do a follow-up video "My regrets of only taking one lens!"
Great video and travel setup suggestions! Since I don't have a 24-200, my "small-ish" 2-lens kit typically ends up being a (Tamron) 17-35f, and (also Tamron) 70-300z (albeit a bit softer quality, it is so lightweight I don't care to upgrade just yet). I might be doing something wrong, but I generally don't miss not having anything between the 36-69mm focal range. And - keeping the FTZ always attached to the 17-35, they're about the same size so I can always use the same "slots" in my bag no matter which lens I have on the camera.
Sounds like a great setup as well! The 70-300 was a nice lightweight lens with some reach! And being able to use the same slots in the bag is a nice option as well. I try to avoid having to be super specific where I have to put things in my bag if I can.
A 35mm or 50mm are both great prime lens options. These days I've gravitated to the longer focal lengths though and already most concerned that 200mm won't be enough. But, if I was staying in town, not aiming for landscapes and more documenting the moments of the trip - either of those lenses are solid choices! (and lighter and less space!)

I am looking to get that lens as an all rounder for travel. When I had my nikon d5500 I had the 18-200mm for these circumstances. The range of these focal lengths is very convenient and I find them very useful.
Going on vacation back when I was a young buck, I packed a GAF MEMO 35EE w/ 5 rolls of Kodak film. Then I caught the camera bug and purchased a Pentax ME Super w/50 1.7 lens ($390.00 in 1980). Pentax was on the cover of many photography magazines. Just couldn't resist the temptation. With the Pentax, I doubled the weight I packed. The story continues in the Wednesday evening newspaper. :^)
My old days carry was a Ricoh KR-5 and one lens (I forget the focal length, it was a zoom). That thing when with me to some of the highest peaks in the Rocky Mountain National Park and to the bottom of the Grand Canyon! It was a well travelled/backpacked camera!
I loved my ME Super. I dropped it and ruined the shutter and couldn't justify the repair cost. It was a great camera and took great pics. You really learned all about shooting in apature priority with the ME Super!

I still have my GX85, great little camera and so small and light! Great lens pairing with that 22-200 as well! I think I’ve slowly been learning I have a harder time switching between menu systems of different camera brands than I’d like to admit.
Oh nice! I have a GX85 and G9 in the house! I don’t use them as often as I should, but I have them! I love the Tucson area, we still have some family out that way.

I decided to get into digital and thought I would start out with a nice bridge camera, but needed something water and dust resistant. I started with a Lumix FZ300 before I knew much about sensor size, etc. That's when I discovered MFT and the weather sealed cameras and lenses and went all-in with MFT starting with a G95 and a bunch of lenses. But, my main camera as I have been re-learning everything has been a G9. My basic go-bag is the G9 with 9mm, 15mm, 12-60mm, and 50-200mm Leicas. I went completely nuts for a while and ended up with 9 MFT bodies and 23 lenses. 😳
I really like my G9. Feels good in hand, pro-level feature set. M43 is a fun system! And I thought I was bad when I was up to around 6+ camera bodies of various types!

I travel mostly with my Panasonic gx85 and Olympus 12 to 200, especially when I fly. If I plan astro it is a different story , I use Nikon z6ii.
