  • Living in a temperate rainforest means a little rain won't stop hiking plans! There was a ton of it in the forecast as @Chris_Palmer and I set out for Norvan Falls. No problem the Nikon Z 50 is water-sealed, right? 😅. Come along on this water-filled journey to a picturesque waterfall in the Canadian wilderness 🇨🇦🥾🌲.

      Nikon says it is weather sealed :). Just not as well as some of the other Z mirrorless cams because of the pop up flash. I was also using a weather sealed lens. The kit lens and other DX lens (50-250) isn’t weather sealed.

      @@RolandKaufmann Thanks a lot.
      I have some questions
      1. Had u considered the Sony a6400 while buying and if yes why you chose this over that.
      2. How is this camera for video(even though I primarily want to click street photos but it's better to be future proof)
      3. Any major downside of this camera that you may have realised after using it.

    • @RolandKaufmann
      @RolandKaufmann  Рік тому +1

      @@rishikeshbharti5064 excellent questions.
      1. When I was researching I looked at the Sony A6400, Canon M50, and Fuji XT-100 also. The reason I went with the Z50 is because it met my needs as a photo first shooter. The EVF is actually really comfy for the eye and not too small like some other cameras. Also the “i menu” on Nikon digital cameras is very helpful for quickly changing commonly used settings (Sony menus can be a pain to navigate). The Z50 also has the best ergonomics out of the cameras I looked at. The grip is really deep for a small camera so I’ve never once felt like I may drop it (the Fuji looks great but horrible to hold for hours on end). I think after watching Jared Polin’s (fro knows photo) video on the Z50 I was sold. He also made an hour long setup guide video for the camera which was very helpful.
      2. I’m in the same boat as you as far as primarily shooting photos. I’ve recently started to shoot some video as well and it does a pretty good job with that too! You can shoot up to 30fps at 4K which is what I usually shoot at. It also has a 30 minute record limit which isn’t an issue for me, but something to know. I really like how I have 2 completely different menus for photo and video on the camera. Makes it super easy to get the settings where I want them and quickly change back and forth between photo/video.
      3. Things to consider before buying: the Auto Focus isn’t on par with the Sony’s of the world. I’ve gotten much better at using it now (manly using single point AF for photo) but at the beginning I relied on wide AF zones and the camera isn’t always the best at finding focus in those areas. Another thing to think about is the fact the screen doesn’t swivel around like other cameras. It just tilts up and all the way down. It’s not a huge issue for me, but it’s a little annoying when shooting portrait orientation close to the ground.
      Hopefully this was helpful!!

    • @RolandKaufmann
      @RolandKaufmann  Рік тому +4

      Thank you!! The 35mm is super nice, but you can also get great results with the kit lens. Don’t get caught up in the gear rat race haha. As for composition, I didn’t really do anything crazy in this video. Look up the rule of thirds on UA-cam or google. I used that a lot for placing my subjects within the photos. Hopefully that makes sense 😅.

    • @RolandKaufmann
      @RolandKaufmann  12 днів тому

      Hey, thanks for the kind words. I use the electronic stabilization when I’m just holding the camera still. It helps take out some of the micro jitters. On shots where I move the camera I try and stabilize them in my editing software. Best thing you can do is just be as smooth as possible when capturing video.

    Lovely video, lovely weather, lovely photos! Regarding the weather sealing, I recall reading that someone's (Z50) in-camera mic had died from some light rain exposure, which seems a little odd to me. Out of curiosity: how's yours holding up? I'm eager to take mine out in the rain as well, but I'll admit I'm somewhat paranoid about the weather sealing. Perhaps it'd be possible to construct some form of homemade sealing for the battery door, at least. Cheers! :)

      Hey Christian, yes that’s correct! Sealed not proof. I scoured the internet for that answer as well haha. I definitely don’t shy away from water but I do a couple things to give the camera the best chance. For one I always use a weather-sealed lens if I’ll be out in the rain. Secondly I never swap batteries, cards, open any of the little doors on the body. Oh and I keep the flash off and put a little plastic cover over the hot shoe. Never had any problems from the water so far. Knock on wood haha.
