I'm of Snohomish descent, my mom would braid my hair TIGHT, long braids she would wind up on my head like a crown. Leftovers? she wound in a knot on top of my head. Used to feel like she was pulling my eyes up, too.

I have the same question as Sandra -- any info on who won the tiebreaker or photos of each braid style? :)

For Black Americans it’s bad luck to let more than one person braid your hair at once. Same for letting someone you don’t know do anything to your hair. Black hair is a whole nother deal though.

Reina Johnson yep, the superstition is that it makes your hair fall and brings bad luck. Also hair that is cut off must be burned. There are a ton of them.

Culturally as a Native we're not supposed to let anyone who isn't family touch our hair. They may be related.
