- Jerry Cantrell singing Alice in Chains' "Them Bones" during his solo concert at Charlotte Center City Fest on April 27, 2002. Jerry's back up band was Comes With the Fall, with William DuVall doing backing vocals. Metallica's Robert Trujillo plays bass on this as well.

Robert Trujillo got hell of a resume
Agreed.
He's a monster on Degradation Trip.
He sure fucking dose
Many don't realize Jerry was the man behind most of these dark ass lyrics. It's kinda cool to see him sing lead on the song he wrote primarily. I love Layne, he was the heart and soul of the band but Jerry was the brains behind it all.
True, but Layne did write the song that first put them on the map with man in the box. It's kinda ironic to me even though Jerry wrote most of the songs he wrote there first big song
Layne wrote many lyrics (he had a huge role)...it was not just Jerry Cantrell (as many wrongly believe). If you have the original AIC records (Facelift, Dirt, "Tripod" (self titled album), SAP, Jar of Flies) with booklets you can easily check it out.
@@MLCrow layne did most of his lyrical contributions on tripod, but still he writes less than half of the lyrics and probably less than 10 percent of the music. He had a great voice, but aic has always been jerrys band. Not sure who said layne staley wrote man in a box?? Thats a collaboration piece, no one song writter.
@@matthewtaylor4450 Well, yes, Layne wrote alone most lyrics for the Tripod album...talking about lyrics (AIC Layne era) it's about 50/50 between him & Jerry (included lyrics they wrote each other alone and co-wrote both and/or with others too... + you have to count also some songs not included on the studio albums). Talking about Jerry: he's the main songwriter for sure as he wrote more than 90% of the music. Btw Layne wrote alone (both lyrics and music) only 3 songs: Angry Chair, Hate to Feel and Head Creeps...but he still had a way bigger role in writing the lyrics (based on booklets and internet sources) as many don't know. I don't really agree AIC is Jerry's band (ok, maybe now)...but not when Layne was in AIC too. Layne was an awesome/unique singer with a great stage presence...very charismatic. AIC was basically a two headed monster (Jerry/Layne)...with no offense to the other members as they had/have important roles too. I like AIC because of Jerry and Layne both. Many say AIC died with Layne...I say AIC is still at least half alive with Jerry (& Co.) and still going strong.
@@matthewtaylor4450 Staley wrote lyrics to 33 songs, Cantrell wrote 26. I can break it down by album if you want, but their lyrical contributions were slightly skewed to Staley. Having said that, the musical contributions by Cantrell are much larger, all the music Staley wrote was Hate to Feel, Head Creeps, Angry Chair, and maybe part of Fear the Voices. Cantrell certainly was a larger creative input in the band.
Jerry Cantrell singing the Layne parts vocal, BEAUTIFUL :0
If the dates are right, this was right after layne died, jeez jerry must be a strong dude if he's playing at that time.
Yes layne died April 6th of 02
@@mrstealurkill2002 5th, found 19th
Jesus Christ....i have the utmost respect for Cantrell in more ways than i can list off. This performance was only days if not weeks following the passing of layne. I cannot for the life of me even begin to imagine what jerry was feeling and going through here. Wow. I wanna believe that this was his way of mourning, playing these songs in the name of his beloved frontman.
@@kelvinpanggabean2387 I dont know how nirvana could've possibly carried on without kurt..
He was like: The stage it's all mine. My rime ro shine.
The guitarist on the right has sick vocals he should try joining Aic
😁
For real!
Wow this is probably only 2 weeks after layne passed, I guess he was in a way already gone so to speak so dad
Layne's funeral was the day after this concert. Jerry cancelled a concert so that he could attend the funeral. He talked about Layne's passing and hold a t-shirt with a photo of Layne in this same show.

ShirleyCobain thanks
Kurt Vedder was a week after they found em
Duvall should play guitar on all the old stuff live. Just beefs everything up
AiC sounds awesome live with two guitars going. I agree!
Oh yeah that's where William came from lol
CW DEANS lol
I went to a concert on this tour. Was really good.
DuVall also performed with Cantrell solo before Staley's death.
Jerry 😍
Gotta say Jerry did laynes part very good in this video!
The Best Them Bones live version EVER!
Candyass!
Amazing.
Love your song forever your awesome 💯♥️🎸
Jerry knew Duvall in 2002. Wonder if Layne knew him.
Jerry met William in 2000. They toured together before D Trip came out. As far as anyone knows Will never met Layne.
He probably had an idea of who he was but didn't know him personally
I think Will said somewhere he was at the bands final performance in Kansas City 1996. As far as meeting Layne though that’s unclear.
this was 8 days after they found out layne was dead
Ironically enough rob would have joined Metallica already and started production of st.anger
He dodged a bullet and played with Jerry instead. Good choice lol.
Also ironic how it was the bassist Mike Inez who had the iconic "Friends Don't Let Friends Get Friends Haircuts..." written to metallica at the unplugged and seeing rob play bass here later to play for metallica
Nah he joined a year later, bob rock played bass on st anger
ft. William Duvall
On my 7th bday, wow
Was this in Charlotte when he opened up for creed?
want me to google that for you?
No this was Center City Fest.
Is that Scott weiland on the other guitar there? 🤔
That's Shawn Matthews from Damageplan.
The other guy is Will, current lead singer..I hate comparing him to Layne but.
@@dannydunn2772 nobody ask you to comparing them
Layne is Layne, Will is Will, both are amazing.
Jerry was super sexy back then!
crab man rob
Only 7 days after finding Laynes body :(
Sounds like Cantrell uses a more nasal tone when singing this song.
Drummer blows Kinney is not
