I swear the rasp is hereditary.. has to be..all of their voices (except rhea) have a similar texture/color. it's this smoky/woody quality (it's really noticeable in Alic and Ahjah..along with Darrell when he's singing more lyrical lines). I heard it in their mom too.. I'm guessing that it's also the reason why their voices blend so well and sound homogenous throughout their compositions. Rhea's soprano sits on top of their chords like a blanket..under all that smooth, raspy velvet, her notes pierce through with a crystalline clarity..(she sounds like a bell) Paco's solid bottom provides good foundation. It's cool how he still gets excited when his big brother sings.. 6:38 reminded when they did The Appeal and Alic start squirming in his seat when Darrel started going off lol. , Darrel's ear..the way he progresses the chords with all sorts of minors/inverted keys..brother knows how to resolve a meter. --I wonder if he consciously knows how he's moving and weaving through those lines or does it just come naturally.. Ahja--lethal..soulful (I love how passionate everything sounds coming out of her mouth lol).
