Don't know if you check your channel any more ! Do miss your stuff. especially persimmons . I got some finally from my Evelyn tree , has nice size . they grow slower here in my soil . don't know how it happened but missed this video . may be you could do and update on your grafts , would love to see your persimmon and pecan grafts after these years .
Where is all your snow!!! Actual think I heard a robin too. Still have well over a foot of snow here still,,, but spring is coming. Nice looking trees. Never have grown persimmons, not sure how they would do this far north, probably would do just fine. Thanks for sharing and have a great day.
If I wanted to start buying persimmon seedlings to graft too, what do you think would be the best type of graft to use so I wouldn't have to worry about the graft breaking under a heavy load in the future? I did a cleft graft on apples years ago but have been told the whip & tongue was a much stringer graft to use.
I prune my persimmons back pretty hard each winter to get a good harvest for the next season. Not sure about the North American persimmons but the Asian ones flower and fruit on new wood, so i take off the tips (about 1/4 or 1/5) on all stems to get a good flush in spring.
I just found your videos and really have enjoyed what I have seen especially your cleft grafting video. I have never done any grafting before so I am very curious about it. Did you grow the American persimmons rootstocks or ordered them in?
Snow is falling tonight! Thanks for watching Dusty. I'm planting apple trees tomorrow if the ground isn't frozen. Not sure if the american persimmon can survive in your zone. They don't like bitter cold.
On viewing UA-cam videos you can change the viewing resolution by clicking on the "Gear" (Settings) symbol under the video. I raise the resolution but still got blurriness. I use MovieMaker to create my videos and export the videos to 640x480 resolution. Video quality can degrade if you convert between formats. I use Freemake Video Converter to convert between formats. I used to have to with my old camera but my new camera saves in MP4 for no worries. Check your camera's capture resolution.
You take scion when the tree is fully dormant in the winter. Probably late winter would be the best (Feb.) You graft it in the spring or whatever month your particular tree begins to leaf. They say put the scion in a plastic bag and keep it moist and cool in the bottom of your refrigerator, until you get ready to graft. This dormant branch will wake up and feed from the active stock tree.
Cold weather seems to effect resolution, too. Also, I seem to get best resolution when I video at 640x480 and keep that res even though the camera does 720p but then I'd have to convert it down a notch. You can loose resolution converting up or down. Try converting to different formats, (MP4, MOV, etc) UA-cam can upload several.
I wonder how a fuyu persimmon tree would do in semi trop Florida.. We get as low as down to 30 maybe for a few times* for a couple months. Freezes rarely maybe for 10 hrs a year. I would prune it to a small tree like I do with all my trees except a couple of my Moringas oleifera and stenopetala. I'm letting them shoot for the stars, there almost 20' feet in 2 years, But only a few seed pods ..Does it require a long winter? Thanks :D
I set the camera to record at a higher quality, so maybe that can help. I use Windows Movie Maker and it doesn't support a lot of those formats. I've noticed vids uploading a lot faster lately. Is that my quality or has UA-cam improved upload speed?

john parker happy thanksgiving John! I'm coming back. 😊
Persimmons are called the fruit of the gods. Can't get much better than an over ripe persimmon.
Amen. 😀

What resolution do you upload at? It seems blurry but it might be my DSL. I upload at 640x480.
Hi, can you tell me when (month) you collect scion wood for persimmon trees and when do you normally graft persimmon tree? Thank you.

Yes. Flowers come on new wood. It's hard for me to train my apple brain to that fact.
Yeah, it is blurry. I have no idea why. UA-cam did it. My other vids are higher quality -- I think. How do you change resolution?

Where is this taking place? What zone ?

I have to convert mine. Seems like the quality has suffered lately.
At 9:50 min tree is going to suffocate itself . Tape gotta be removed ASAP
I get dizzy with your camera fucos, you move too much and too fast...
Agreed.
