If you don't like the big pile of crap X has turned into. All the hate all the propaganda and the messed up algorithm. Than bluesky is for you. It is so refreshing.
I see where you are coming from with this, but my counter point is that over 1.2 million people have moved over to Bluesky at this point, and I doubt ALL of those people are going back. Especially creatives who are notoriously protective of their work. It's not just that the block feature is being changed, but also that Grok can now scrape anything you post on Twitter. There used to at least be an opt out function, but now you can't even do that. As a side note, while I haven't experimented with it myself I believe you can post inline videos from UA-cam/Twitch/other media platforms that are greater than a minute long just by posting a link. I understand the frustration, but it is most likely because the developers of Bluesky don't have the funding to spin up extra media servers right now. Also, anyone worried about Jack Dorsey can at least rest easy in the fact that he has left Bluesky.
Creatives didnt even read the Terms of service. Bluesky in their TOS states that all work published on bluesky is their property. That they have the right to use works placed on Bluesky for advertisement. These creatives left because free speech was allowed back on Twitter and these artistic types who believed themselves to be a majority in discourse suddenly found out they were a minority of a minority.

The problem with these "new" social media platforms that look and feel like Twitter is that, in order for it to be a proper alternative, everyone needs to move over there. A lot of people want to stay on Twitter so they don't have to manage another social, and their followers want to stay because that's where those people are. What I think would be an amazing concept is just 1 platform that combines all socials into one. Just the same concept with making posts, following, etc. but all on one site where if you put something on your profile it automatically puts the exact same thing on all other social media. Besides this, all comments you get on any of those will appear on that one site. This allows creators to keep posting on the platform they prefer and allows followers to choose their platform without loosing the ability to follow the people they want to follow.
@@Silacide yea I completely agree, a lot of people need to jump across to. Your idea is exactly what they are trying to accomplish at AT protocol, one audience for all, however everyone will need to eventually transition over to the new network for it to work, which all the big players like twitter are going to try and stop
I know that current social media has trained us to think a certain way about these platforms, but having been apart of what is known as "the fediverse" for a while now I will say that your idea is exactly what it accomplishes. The AT protocal is fairly new so there aren't many other platforms that have adopted it, but once there is more usage platforms can choose to "federate" with other platforms that they enjoy. It's really hard to explain, but for the best example I would point to Lemmy, which some Reddit users moved to during that debacle a while back. Lemmy is just a backend so you can spin up your own self hosted instance and you will still be able to see posts from other instances if you want to. Again, it's hard to explain without experiencing it for yourself. The basic gist of it is that no ONE company controls the protocol itself so you don't have to worry as much about them making rules you don't like, you can just jump to another instance that you do enjoy. In essence you are joining a completely different social media platform run by someone else with potentially no affiliation with the platform you came from. With the AT protocol that will eventually include you being able to take all your followers with you, but currently you cannot do that with any of these protocols because they have not had enough development time.
@@Coramelimane that's a great question! I have t been on the platform long enough, and I haven't seen anything specific on it just yet, if anything comes up I may include it in follow up news
Currently the censorship is based on your personal preference. What I mean by this is that there is no algorithm outside of the interests you dictate; yes you have a discovery feed, but again, that is based on the other feeds you follow. Unlike with Twitter and many similar products you can have as many feeds as you want and even create your own custom hyper specific feeds if you absolutely feel the need. In addition to this quotes and blocks are specifically designed to put the poster in control, which I view as an upside but I could see how it would be abused in some ways. What I mean by this is that blocking other users completely nukes them from your feed and if someone tries to use your post as ragebait by quoting it you can dissociate the quote from their post. In essence you don't see what you don't want to see.

The only reason anyone uses twitter is because it's a common area where lots of people who already have followings talk to each other. Bluesky while technically built on decentralized tech is currently tightly moderated and controlled by a small group of insane people. I see no value in using the platform unless you want a jankier highly moderated left wing twitter. Jack Dorsey (The founder of twitter and Bluesky) told people not to use Bluesky because the psychos that control the platform now forced him out of the company and are running it in a way that completely defeats the purpose of having a federated platform. TLDR don't bother with Bluesky it sucks.
oh man 3.7k views?! that is so many people that'll move to blsky just for the next 2 days before they realize it's just fellow trash and goes back to the trash bin that is twitter where they belong!
Both suck but… twitter is better
