I just read - 'A tower bell was used to sound the town's traditional curfew at eight o'clock each night'. What happened to you if you broke the curfew I wonder? Time constrained and pelted in the stocks perhaps? Thoughtful of you to let us read those signs too. Went into Newton Abbot in 1976. My family was camping in a tent on a farm just outside there. We went on a trip to nearby Princetown too... just to see the ponies, and the [outside] of the prison. My dad said they held the 'Mad Axe man'. Just then we passed some convicts being led in a line; I was terrified. I don't remember much of Newton Abbot itself, so thanks for showing me around.
