I watched this movie 18 years ago and can't bear the thought of never seeing it again. I've tried searching various websites and asked many people, but I've been unsuccessful. I believe the movie is from the 1940's-50's and is in English, French, Italian, or Russian. A musician/pianist who lives in a deserted forest (or isolated area), marries (or lives with) a young woman and neglects her, playing the piano all day long to perfect a song. At times, he appears to be deaf or blind or going mad. She cries out in misery, longing for his attention, but he ignores her. Whenever he must leave the mansion, he locks her in the bedroom. She is frightened, because she hears someone crying/moaning from the floor above. Her husband says she is imagining it, but she knows she isn't and suspects that his former wife is imprisoned upstairs. Whenever he goes into town, a masked man, in all white or black, climbs the tree near the wife's window and comes into her bedroom and makes love to her. She never tells her husband about these visits, because she wants affection from a man, any man, as demonstrated in this situation.
