    Red Bull delivered with this one. Rock on. Malcolm had the overall fastest time if I'm not mistaken. Malcolm and Travis had the most memorable runs I think. Fastest time completed has to count for something :)

    OK--I know I post too much---but I have a lot to say. :)
    Last one, I promise.
    James and Malcolm riding with each other and pressuring each other, reminds me of the friendship and racing partners of David bailey and Johnny O'Mara from 83 to 86 when they both rode for Honda, ----which was a very beneficial friendship that took them to the top of the world.
    If Malcolm starts beating James,---look out.

    I am a old school guy, started riding in the 70's, (back when even families on welfare had a kid who had a bike), racing in the 80's/90's. I am the guy who thinks freestyle is bring after 10 min of it,---and I think this racing is great.
    I thought this would be boring also
    Just after watching the 3 races of Hansen and Pastrana, I am amazed at how they can mess up, and still make the time back,---or may be that is just Pastrana?
    Will have to watch more. Good to see Pastrana and a 500cc 2-stroke competing again.

    I like the starting pads also. Like horses out of the gate (wearing side blinders), surrounded by a wall banner on both sides of you keeps you from being distracted, or the next door rider messing with you, or even taking you out by accident. Just look at that camera shot @ 22:28, and you can see how you can 100% concentrate on the gate, keeping distractions to a minimum, (ever jump the gate because your neighbor did?), and not worry about any mishaps. I think the starting procedure is perfect for this racing, and I bet it helps improve the riders starting techniques also, just because they can concentrate more on just the start.
    I have to say, being 70's and 80's old school, I have not felt this much excitement (personally) for a long time in our sport.
    Just to piss of off the globalists at the FIM---the promoters should only allow two stroke engines, and the 500cc two stroke engine may be the best available for this straight line racing.
    But simply not allowing any 4-stoke over 450cc would do the trick, (and possibly reignite the 500cc 2-stroke market), and we have proof of that because that is what the FIM did to the 2-stroke. "No you can't over-bore your 2-stroke to make the engines equal in performance." is exactly what the FIM and AMA did to the 2-stroke.
    We need a separation of sport and dictatorship.
    Oh yea, so we don't forget:
    Hey drug dictators,---James, (a great individual), won again. Up yours.

  • @matteoderose819
    @matteoderose819 9 років тому

    I love big James so down to earth

  • @EarthSurferUSA
    @EarthSurferUSA 8 років тому

    I think this is a GREAT competition. James said it well at the end, "simple, straight up racing". Might I add probably the most pure form or racing is drag racing, but even better for this type of drag racing, that is like no other type I know of, is the fact that you can make a mistake, and still have a good shot at the win. I think that is due to the fact that they have to slow down for the wall jumps.
    That being said in total excitement of this new form of SX racing, there was a injustice with this race format. Malcolm should have been in the finals against his brother James.
    The "seeding" (or is it seating?), that first pitted the racers in the early rounds should not have the possibility to race the best each other until the main event. Like a wrestling chart, James should have been seeded at the top, and Malcolm at the bottom of the branches, and they should be pitted against the slowest to put them down into the 3 place chart. The only data they had for seeding was qualifying race times, but I am sure James and Malcolm were not far enough apart to be on the same branch of the chart.
    If your going to pit the best against the best in the early rounds--you will end up with the 3rd place guy getting 2nd, and the 2nd fastest guy, (which may have been James actually), getting 3rd, ---unless you have a system where the third place guy can still win the overall with a couple more races.
    Malcolm should have been in the main event against his brother James. That is the only flaw that I saw in this brand new brand of SX racing,---and that is impressive.
    This sport does not even need "union flaggers",---who often do not do a good job, possibly causing injury. That is worth the weight in freedom right there. :)
    Good to see James racing and winning again, but it was the actual sport that had to change to allow that to happen, in spite of the destruction of the drug police that ended his career in SX and MX. You don't take 16 months off in this sport,---and come back winning, and he got hurt over and over again trying. SHAME on the entire industry for letting that happen IMO.
    Kudos for these promoters,---for giving us a avenue to see talent of James Stewart again,---But Malcolm is coming. I think the day Malcolm beats James, his last mental block will be toppled, and he will be one of the toughest guys to beat (if not a strong #1) in the world. I would love to see that happen.

    I don't think I will accept the praise about how good the "scrubs" are today. Give James a 2-stroke, and he will show us how to do it again.
    IMO, the real "scrub", died when the 4-stroke was forced on us.

    • @TheXman174
      @TheXman174 8 років тому

      James did his signature "bubba scrub" on his yz450f. He always scrubbed but it became a signature thing all riders did once he did it at Red Bud in 08 and dragged the peg.

    • @EarthSurferUSA
      @EarthSurferUSA 8 років тому +1

      To a point, yes they scrub the 4-strokes also. But the physical reason why it is fact that a 125 and 250cc 2 stroke could scrub better than a 250cc and 450cc 4-stroke is because of less rotating mass of the engine parts, and less weight weight of the bike.
      I don't think we see anybody (even James) scrubbing as hard/low as he did on the 125 Kawasaki 2-stroke.
      I would love to see James test that with a 125 again, side by side with anybody on a 4-stroke. I think we would see James flying lower, but it obviously is not enough to offset a bike with 20% more power around the entire track.

      For this straight line course, I think Travis is just as fast. I remember before Pastrana retired, pretty much only he and James would keep RC in sight.
      But this racing is so intense, Pastrana not racing for a while, I am sure he is more prone to making mistakes---as he did. Still, I bet his drive through the last set of whoops on that big bore 2-stroke was probably the fastest of the day through that section.

      Connor Stiles whipping is more of a trick with height, where scrubbing is to minimize the air time, so really you start the whip as soon as possible to get as low as possible to touch down first and get the power back to the ground, which makes you a hell of a lot faster then someone who is not, you'll notice lets say James stewart in supercross he will use scrubbing to catch up to someone then overtake them on the corner and even while jumping.

      Connor Stiles I might not be the best to explain but, it should give you a rough idea, someone with more experience might chime in and correct me and give a better explanation.
