I’ll give that a try... no matter what I’ve done it’s leaks away in the car and winds me up a treat lol. RM sent me out 3 new lids but the same thing happened. So what you’re saying is not to over tighten as that’s the cause.
As the tap isn't vented, I've ordered a small check valve that I intend to fit to the lid to let the air in. This will hopefully eradicate the need to crack the lid, which I've found causes water to seep out. The valve opens at 0.7psi so should hopefully be perfect for the job.
@LFH02 The video is 7 years old and at 1:02 you said you've had them for a minimum of 2 years. So that's 9 years minimum! Thank you again I'm just ordering some right now
Thanks a question. Really depends on who I am with & how long I am away for. Generally I would always take two 5ltr containers every time I go away but if the family/friends are with me then I will take all 4 so 20ltrs. I would also do some research on if clean water is available locally. I also always carry a container which is marked differently so I can fill up from a stream or water butt and sterilise using my Katadyn Vario Filter which can clean water quite quickly. I generally also carry some bottled water so I can hydrate easily. Hope that answers your question. Cheers.
AS an after thought that's if I am vehicle mounted if I am walking I would carry water in a bladder around 3ltrs but if I know I am not walking far then I 5ltrs container as well as the bladder. cheers.
The other advantage of this container is that the large opening is big enough to drop a pump in for use in an Eriba type caravan/camp trailer where the water is contained in an on board jerry can. It may prove useful also when wild camping/caravanning if there is a loss in battery power in the caravan. The supplied tap can be utilised and used as you demonstrated.
Great overview indeed! Loving the look of these! defo gonna buy a couple, and as mentioned in other comments, I am always a bog fan of the fishing gear being applied to the oudoorsy woodsy activities! All the best!
Thanks, used the two for ages now and just that little bit more useful than a standard type, so replaced all four now. If you buy from Fishtec use there discount code for Sept (FTABDNF). I like staying comfortable in the field especially at a cheaper price. Cheers
Looks really good. I'm in the market for another carrier so might look at these. BTW, the small cap, why not just screw it back on to the underside of the big cap where the tap goes?
Thanks for the comment Rob, Johnny found a discount code whish is ( FTABDNF ) so if you buy from fishtec it may save a bit !! Great idea regarding the smaller cap I will do from now on thanks.
I've already ordered a 10L jug using that code :D I really like that massive fill/dump hole. Nothing worse then having to fill through a tiny hole, water going everywhere but in.
Bruce, Its a pleasure. I always have thought that fishing kit is good value for money and suits the bush craft type lifestyle, if a little heavy. Seems as soon as you mention Bushcraft, survival etc the price rockets for us !! Thanks for the comment. Ozz
Being honest I don't know. I was able to find out they are made from HDPE which I have read is used widely in all different parts of the plastics industry including the food packing and plates and utensils etc. Hope that helps in some way.

You don't need to crack em the tap is vented experiential in construction made from HDPE
