    Wishlist Eyewinder on Steam: store.steampowered.com/app/2590690/Eyewinder/?YTComment
    The main reason I started this channel was to get feedback on the game, so I'm looking forward to finishing the demo and hearing from you all after you get to play it. The past year has been great and I'm looking forward to seeing where this project goes over the course of the next year!
    I especially enjoyed all of the suggestions on how to deal with rewinding long running particle systems on the last devlog. I haven't worked any more on that yet because I've been prioritizing features that are must-have for the demo, but whenever I get back around to working on it the first thing I'm doing is going through all of those comments again.

    I actually liked that first soundtrack being reversed it actually gave the entire reverse time effect

    • @BobsMudHut
      @BobsMudHut  11 місяців тому +3

      Yeah there is some benefit to the reversal of music being more noticeable. For some tracks I think it would be the right fit. I don't know if it comes across as well in the video, but at least for me when playing the game with certain tracks the reversal got annoying after awhile, especially after rewinding a bunch of separate times in succession. So I'm aiming for most of the ambient music that plays in combat/wilderness/puzzles to not be very noticeably reversed. But you still might hear something like the first track for a special gameplay moment or in certain locations where you probably aren't going to be rewinding time very much.

    why not have the music stay consistent if you dont like it backwards? In my opinion if is its worth anything, I like the creepy rewind tones of the music not matching forwards and backwards. Sometimes you have to let things be.

    • @BobsMudHut
      @BobsMudHut  11 місяців тому +1

      It depends on context. In situations like combat and solving puzzles where you are rewinding a lot in rapid succession I found it really annoying with certain tracks and so for those I want both forwards and backwards to sound the same. In other situations where you rewind for a longer period of time and it doesn't happen super often I would be fine with something like the first track. This is based on what I think the majority of people will end up wanting, but if I get a lot of feedback pointing the opposite direction I would change my approach.

      I have grass in some places. Grass has been the most annoying thing about the environment design for me, I always feel like I'm either adding too much or too little. Right now I'm erring on the side of too little because that is a lot easier on performance.

      @@stickguy9109 I'm using GPU instancing. Even with that it is noticeably slower (still relatively performant on my GPU, but lower-end GPUs might struggle). I just don't like the way a ton of grass looks and have wasted way too much time trying different grass layouts. I might make a poll showing a few different options to see if I'm just being too picky or if I'm just horrible at placing grass lol

    • @stickguy9109
      @stickguy9109 11 місяців тому

      @@BobsMudHut Maybe your grass model is the issue? Mine was just a billboard and I could render tons of grass on my integrated gpu. And the placement was random with some perlin noise applied to it to form clumping I didn't hand place it.

    This game is so awesome! Could you think about adding an outline shader to your objects, and also maybe add a dodge roll, lock indicator and maybe some interesting combat moves like ground slam and block. Anyway this vid is great, I have followed you since the start and am so glad your game is turning out so well, good luck with release!

    • @BobsMudHut

      Combat for sure could use a lot more variety of moves. Lock indicator is also a good idea. I'm intending for the boost to function like a dodge roll would, where you can use it to get I-frames and escape enemies.

    I wonder if simply using "generic" rewind sound effects might be a less burdensome task so that you don't have to manually review music samples. Zelda:Tears of the Kingdom doesn't feel the need to play sounds in reverse, yet their team of game designers are always paying attention to the utmost of detail in their designs. They use clock-ticks and various electronic sounds to indicate time is going backwards. They also pause the music and gray out the environment during this time. I guess that's kind of maybe a sore suggestion, given how clearly inspired by BotW/TotK this game clearly is. I understand the need to distinguish, especially since you're wearing the hat of the artist in this work too.

    • @BobsMudHut
      @BobsMudHut  11 місяців тому

      Haven't played ToTK yet (don't have a switch), but I'll take a look at how they handle it. I think I prefer the extra immersion the music reversing brings though. Not every track of music necessarily needs to sound good reversed. For example, I don't think the player will need to reverse time very often when in villages or other isolated points of interest so its not very important there. But for things like combat, traversing between different islands, and puzzles there will be a lot of rewinding so I need to keep the possibility of music being reversed in mind there.

    At first glance it may seem that in February your water intake is the lowest but considering that February is the shortest month you are actually at a higher intake per day (68.8 oz) compared to your actual lowest month in December per day (64.4 oz) but one also must consider the usual lower climate which would cause you to sweat less and therefore retain more water in your body during colder times comparatively. HOWEVER considering the recommended water intake for an adult male is at 125 oz a day, you didn't even meet half of that on your worst month and some may not even consider your best month of april (87.1 oz) to have even scraped the goal of 125 oz.
    None of this is grim as the average person only consumes about 8 cups (64 oz) of water so you ARE achieving an above average score albeit if you were at the recommended water intake level there could be debate on whether or not you've been operating at half optimized performance levels and could have achieved double your progress had you fueled your body appropriately.
    Everything aside, the game is looking great, I remember your first video had so much potential and keep working to improve on it!

    • @BobsMudHut
      @BobsMudHut  11 місяців тому

      This is the kind of detailed analysis I come to the comments to see. I do wonder what data the recommended water amount is based on. I doubt drinking half the recommended amount makes you half as performant.

    • @FreakyGamma
      @FreakyGamma 11 місяців тому

      Of course not half, also other liquid beverages have water in them, even if they aren't as pure as water they still have hydration properties which you probably excluded from your calculations.

    Helpful suggestion
    1. Learn how to use godot, not for any particular reason.
    2. If you plan to add a sound effect that plays when swapping between options please dont make it trigger when you mouse over the option and also give the player the ability to turn off that sound affect. I personally suffer from sensitivities around noises in a certain pitch range and I know others do as well whilst its not like debilitating without an option to turn that sound off I tend to stop playing the game entirely or in short bursts. For example Apex Legends their UI sound its like someone's pounding a nail into my forehead for me and it plays when u do damn near anything in that game lol.

    • @BobsMudHut
      @BobsMudHut  11 місяців тому

      Godot looks like it has a bright future, but I don't think its quite there yet (especially for 3D). Once this game is done I'll definitely be taking a closer look at it. I didn't think about adding a volume control for UI sounds but it should be pretty easy to add, thanks for the feedback!

    • @GoldenBeholden
      @GoldenBeholden 11 місяців тому

      @@BobsMudHut Godot is definitely weaker with 3D than Unity or Unreal, but this game isn't exactly living on the cutting-edge of graphical prowess. Of course, that's not to say Godot isn't lacking in other areas as well, but I feel like Godot's renderer is already more than enough for most indie 3D games, especially if you're willing to live with the slightly unstable Godot 4.

    • @BobsMudHut
      @BobsMudHut  11 місяців тому

      @@GoldenBeholden Even if Godot was fully feature equivalent to Unity I wouldn't port this game over to it. Animations and models probably wouldn't be too hard but I'm using a lot of Unity-specific code and assets. Recreating all of it in Godot would likely take 6 months to a year and even then development would still be slower since I'm not familiar with Godot.

      I'm sticking with Unity, the game is using a lot of Unity systems that would be a pain to port and with their recent backpedaling Unity's terms are still better than Epic's (for now, at least). Depending on their future actions my next game may or may not be made with Unity.
