  • This video on applied physiology of the central and peripheral nervous system simplifies the concepts such as what is the central nervous system, what is included in the peripheral nervous system, basics of types of nerve fibers including type A, B, and C nerve fibers, myelinated and non-myelinated nerve fibers, preganglionic and post-ganglionic nerve fibers in the autonomic nervous system as well as the relevant cardiovascular and gastrointestinal physiological effects of regional anesthesia.
The video also highlights the differences between the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems and also gives mnemonics for memorizing the sequence of nerve blocked by regional anesthesia as well as the sequence of reversal.
So, do have a look at his video by Dr. Samidha Waradkar for understanding this tricky applied physiology topic.

Hi. I had an epidural pre scheduled CS for 2nd baby. All was well until hands were inside my abdomen. It felt like all my organs were being pulled out! Excruciating and unbearable pressure/tugging! I screamed out in pain for them to stop! I heard the anes doc mumble something about "parasympathetic reaction". Could you elaborate about this phenomenon?

Mam spinal at t10 will block all nerve bellow t10. Same way epidural to block all nerve below if so then what is the advantage other than injury to cord

Hi, Epidural provides prolonged pain relief and duration of pain relief is much longer.
Remeber that epidural is analgesia whereas spinal is anesthesia.
Also, epidural is more controlled and patients can even walk with the so called "walking epidurals" basically less drugs in less concentration.
All this is not possible with spinal.
