Since Britney’s public meltdown in 2007, the pop star has been under a legal guardianship known as conservatorship. The legal agreement gives all control of the star’s career, finances, and decisions to her father, Jamie Spears.
In order to avoid legal repercussions, Britney is forced to follow strict regulations as outlined in her guardianship. She’s not allowed to spend money without her father’s knowledge, advocate for her own rights, hire a lawyer, or have full custody of her two sons. On top of that, she can barely do any regular, day-to-day activities such as drive a car, go shopping, get take-out, pay bills, or even get married. She;s not even allowed to have children!
With the movement by fans to #FreeBritney, the world is finally taking note of the intense rules this star has had to deal with for almost 12 years. Fans are now wondering if the conservatorship, a legal contract usually reserved for people with dementia or other debilitating illnesses, is the right thing to keep Britney safe.

Some people are doing their best to help. There are people protesting for her in LA. There's not much more that can be done since she can't be contacted directly.
I guess spreading the message is helping people to speak out against it but what can anyone who isn't really involved do?! It's sad. We really don't know what's going on but I've been feeling sad for her for years. She's my idol. People act like she's so crazy but she was like Michael Jackson famous back then. She was hounded by the paparazzi & constantly disgraced in the tabloids. I think a lot of people of mostly sane mind would have had a mental break down with that kind of stress. She couldn't go anywhere. I hope she gets the help she needs medically, spiritually and legally. Also full custody of her kids or at least 50%

I just got free.. last year!!!!! I wanna go to a boyfriend's area that I met a while ago.. unfortunately, I hadn't worked in a while.. so Now I'm working on that.. but I"m FREE!!! I was ALONE.. Not under most legal circumstances. More specifically not the norm at least but dementia and elderly abuse is more common then we would like to admit. Also I’m not entirely convinced Biden(sorry for making it political but he is the most current example) and many other big and famous Mostly elderly and demented people in similar conservator ships.

Do you know anything about mental illness? Or what kind of mental illness she has? Frankly I will speculate she has Schizophrenia because of the age of onset. She obviously enjoys preforming and singing and her family has does all they can to make that possible. Having a child will complicate the parameters of the conservatorship. Visits to the doctor, choice of hospital, medicine, and who is allowed to attend to Britney during her pregnancy. These are all new parameters that must be approved by a judge before the conservator (her idiot father) can approve them himself.
Prisoners have few rights but what is shocking is that they have more rights than Britney & many others stuck in guardianships.

All of this was explained in a book that was written by Lynne Spears called 'Through the Storm'. The problem was intensified when Britney had 2 back to back pregnancies less then a year apart. Her emotions could not handle 2 pregnancies that close together. Britney's sons are being raised by their father, Kevin.

I know many elderly people and autistic people who are severely autistic and with severe dementia and they all have MORE rights than she does and can do these things! My schizophrenic friend is under conservatorship too and even SHE can do the things Britney can’t! Conservatorship is NOT supposed to ban marriage, having children, voting, eating, drinking, wearing what you want or having friends! Mental illness or not it’s not supposed to a prison sentence it’s supposed to be a parenting position.

Men are typically expected to fund a relationship or marriage.

If you paid a mother and wife for all she does around the home, it would equal more than most men make at their jobs. Men may be the outside money earners, but women are the ones who do all the work usually.

A simple search outlines that the income disparity determines the direction for spousal support. The value of a wife’s labour in the marriage is not factored into alimony, it’s more of her needs met in the marriage and are required after the divorce.
What is considered is what career sacrifices were made by the recipient of spousal support.
But they by no means start a salary for a divorcee to compensate them for their work according to commercial standards.
Otherwise it wouldn’t be based proportionally off of the breadwinner’s income and it wouldn’t vary independently. That’s why higher earning people pay higher in alimony.

Did you know that while white Christian heterosexual males make up about 25% of the population, about 80% of the power levers in the US are controlled by the same group. Men have way more power than women and have made most of the laws. As for the alimony, everyone knows it is based upon the income from work outside the home. Number one, that's not even close to being fair to women who have done most of the work in the home. Just because alimony is based on money paid by a job, it's nowhere close to fair. Many times the alimony goes toward the support of children. Are you saying that children should be less supported? Men (or the main wage earner, man or woman) should pay to support their children and women should be compensated for all the work they've done with the children and the home. If the man has stayed home and done as much work as most of the women in this country have done, then they should be paid alimony also. In Britney Spears case, she is the major wage earner and the point is that her father shouldn't be stealing all her money! I doubt that he stayed home and raised her children or took care of her home.

Having a child will only complicate the conditions of the current conservatorship. They will have to decide what hospital to go to, which doctors are allowed to interact with her, and the like. The last thing they want is anything immune to the existing conservatorship.

This is so tragic. She’s constantly monitored and everything around her, her entire world/surroundings/reality manipulated in a way. It’s like that Jim Carrey movie ‘The Trueman Show’ where he plays a character that stars in a reality show documenting his life since birth. Problem is, he was never told about this and so he’s lived his entire life oblivious to the fact his every day is a televised entertainment and the people he knows actors. Even his wife and best friend were just paid actors that auditioned for their part always trying to gaslight and discourage him from finding out the truth. Like with Britney, the people that genuinely wanted to help were kept away from him. Her last relationship with Jason Trawick was beyond shady and there were talks he was going to be in charge of her conservatorship once they merry. Insane. Jessyca Joy if that is true, then why is she working? The stress is not good for someone who is unable to function to this degree. And being a performer is stressful (awesome, too, but taxing). It feels to me that if she is truly that sick, she would benefit from a calmer life, in which she could use the little ressources she has to have a more normal life, see her kids etc. In therapy and under meds of course. The situation as it is is toxic. And having relatives who have committed suicide is no guarantee that you are going to commit suicide, too. Not everyone with a history of mental illness in their family and in their lives end up non functioning at all, and most do not commit suicide. If I was her, with all those rules, and sick as she is supposed to be WITH on Top the performing and the pain of having no artistic liberty? I would have killed myself. The situation as it is is a reason for suicide, not a prevention for it.

I went through the exact same illness as Britney. The exact same year. We are the same age too. I even shaved my head and other crazy things. I was in the same position in my family .(lost my children for a while) Watched constantly. I finally started getting better mostly from Strengthening My faith in God again. I wish I could tell her to pray to him everyday and take care of yourself so you can take care of your family again. Will pray for her to gain happiness again.

I have problems because of my learning disability. It’s not my mental illness that is making my life hard. I guess that I am moody because I was yelled at for not being able to read well. Recently, I was told that I have dyslexia. I get mixed up with directions. It took me a while to learn how to use buses. I am surprised that no one noticed my learning problems. I am not developmentally disabled. My disability doesn’t have anything to do with my IQ. I believe that Brittany is doing well now. I hope that people realize that.
