When you move further ahead into the story it becomes easier to forget what a struggle it was for Myne just to *live* every step, both metaphorical and physical, was walking along the precipice of her own demise. I think this song really perfectly encapsulates that feeling. Of just being pulled under at every turn, barely kept afloat by those around her, praying for some way out.
One of my favorite novel and anime series from years and always. I love it very much. My best wishes with deep respect and love to every single member of this anime project. This song really works with Myne really well. I believe Avril Lavigne wrote this about her fight with Lyme disease (not sure, just my own speculation based on the lyrics and what was going on at the time) and it really, really fits with Myne struggling with the Devouring, how the fever seems to overwhelm her and she has to push it in her mental box. From later on in the series, you could also see it as a metaphor for her adjusting to new living situations (first waking up in a new world, then interacting with nobles as a blue shrine maiden, and then **removed for spoilers** in part 3 and so on.) She's constantly having to fight to keep from being overwhelmed, but she also ends up becoming one of the most religious people in the dutchy... so there's that too.
