To me, this ranks up there with Raymond Bourque raising the Cup. For Thorne to set it up right before Kariya LAUNCHED that SLAP-SHOT, to me if we're talking SCF goals, that's numero uno to me
Matthias Bangaard Jensen And all of these calls including the one in this video were by Gary Thorne. Why did we get "Doc" Emerick over him on NBC? Or why couldn't it be like in the late 90s where we had both Emerick and Thorne calling NHL hockey? I want the days of ESPN covering the NHL back. Gary Thorne and Bill Clement were like the Pat Summerall and John Madden of the NHL...at least here in the states. Either that or Sam Rosen and John Davidson. But they mostly were just the Rangers.
@RobGallagher I agree. Ik there have been some amazing calls, but GOODNESS ME, that shot, the way Thorne sets it up, and after what PK9 went through, Ain't no way we're seeing THAT moment ever again.
I would argue you could've called that game over after that, because essentially, although it counts as one point, everybody knew it was over right there because it was as if he said, not in my house, not in my house!!! That goal will forever stand alone as one of the goals that you can book it as the game-winner.
Imagine that goal being the Stanley Cup winning goal in overtime. The hit from Stevens, into the dressing room, back out onto the ice, then blasts one home to win the cup and the fans erupting with cheers and tears of joy; would've been amazing if that was the way it went.
If it had turned out like that it would've been considered as one of the greatest games of all time. Even though it didn't this is still an incredible comeback into a game when Kariya looked to be down for the count. Gives me chills everytime I see it
this is what defines not only a ture hockey player but what a true captain really is. Kariya showed alot of guts and grit and made himself a legend with this goal. To take a hit from Scott Stevens like he did and to come back and just rip one past Brodeur is what legends are made of
Nicholas K No doubt if that was in today's NHL Stevens would have been thrown out of hockey a long time ago, but back then that wasnt considered a legal hit but if that wouldve happened today he would have been tossed out of hockey
PENS68 I understand what you're saying, but Kariya dumped the puck and the hit happened 5 seconds later. I wouldnt be complaining as much if Kariya actually had the puck but thats just wrong. I think when Stevens did it to Lindros in the playoffs, Lindros had the puck but im a flyers fan so ofc i was pissed lmao
Well its top 2 nothing better then gary Thorne joe sakic accepts the cup from bettman and after 22 years!! Raymond!!! Bourque!!! No better call then tht I still get chills from tht
"Kariya, the fans want one... Scores! Off the floor, on the board, Paul Kariya!" One of the greatest calls by Gary Thorne. I miss Gary Thorne and Bill Clement, I miss Paul Kariya as a Mighty Duck, the Ducks during the 2003 playoffs and the finals, and his blistering laser shot goal on Brodeur after he was crushed by Scott Stevens. Ah those memories, seeing this live on TV at that time. I wished he hoisted the Stanley Cup as a Mighty Duck and I wanted to see the Ducks win the cup in 2003.
What an incredible moment. And the call by Gary Thorne should go down as one of the greatest of all time, in any sport. Sublime. I miss Gary and co. calling NHL games on ESPN. Best crew ever.
I watch this goal at least once a year since I found it on YT and I still get FIRED UP!!!.. Gary Thornes call on this play was ELECTRIC... Man I miss him!!
No it shouldn't have my boy Scotty Stevens won another for the great NJ Devils and came back after that game with a 3-0 win and a shutout for marty Brodeur. Although this was my favorite stanley cup final you have to have respect for the mighty ducks after that blast by the great Paul Kiriya
OH MY GOSH!!! I'm so JELL of you right now!!! I can't even imagine what it was like seeing the swing of emotion!!! You can tell your grandkids you saw that happen.
77landmark it was probably off the cuff. Dude seemed to just know exactly what to say and when to say it. That’s why I miss ESPN national hockey night because him and Clement were the best duo.
During mid 90's to mid 2000 is one of the greatest decade for NHL. Too many great players reached over 100pts. But recently Hockey is darkness. a few stars and golies play. MLB and NBA too. mid 90's ~ early 2000 is best sports decade for NHL, MLB, NBA.
IMO Paul Kariya on his prime was the best player in the NHL. Too bad he got such an injury streak. This still gives me chills, I was so sad when the devils one this one
And that was separated that moment from the other big moments. anyone who saw him lay on the ice had that sinking feeling that he died right there, and for him to come back was just like a hero rising when he was counted out. Then to score that goal the way he did, that wasn't skill, that was anger, determination and a stick it to Stevens and a rallying cry to all MD fans that night to say that they wouldn't lose on their home ice
Scott Stevens was trash. He was allowed to destroy players' careers because nobody in the NHL had the balls to stop him. He can burn in hell. Hall of Famer, my ass. He has no business being among names like Sakic, Yzerman, or Gretzky. Kariya has every reason to stay away from the NHL as long as players, whose sole purpose is to harm other players, exist.
a4lem yeah he was allowed to destroy players cause hitting is part of the game dumbass... and alot of people he hit had there head down so maybe they shouldnt of fucked around when they played him. and being hurt is part of the sport, every player knows it can happen. just cause you like playing hockey like a pussy doesnt mean that steven's is trash..
This ranks as one of the greatest goals since he was badly concussed and still came back and scored a laser against a hall of famer goalie and the dejected look on that cheapshot artist Stevens was pure beautiful
What a call from Gary Thorne. "Off the floor! On the board! Paul Kariya!" With the Ducks horn sounding. Doesn't get any better than that.
+TheAnonymousOne67 as a devils fan I agree
absolute chills everytime
Ikr
goosebumps
One of the most memorable moments in Stanley Cup history
One of the best goals ever !
As a Devils fan I had to have some respect for that goal holy shit
ABSOLUTELY!!!!!!!!!!!
Rip they lost
To me, this ranks up there with Raymond Bourque raising the Cup. For Thorne to set it up right before Kariya LAUNCHED that SLAP-SHOT, to me if we're talking SCF goals, that's numero uno to me
this still stands as the greatest call by an announcer i've ever heard in hockey
"After 22 years, RAYMOND BOURQUE!"
"Sakic fakes it, takes it, SCORES!"
"Gretzky had it, lost it"
Matthias Bangaard Jensen And all of these calls including the one in this video were by Gary Thorne. Why did we get "Doc" Emerick over him on NBC? Or why couldn't it be like in the late 90s where we had both Emerick and Thorne calling NHL hockey? I want the days of ESPN covering the NHL back. Do you believe in Miracles?
Ummmm NO! You Americans never heard Canadian announcers have you? US has got a lot to kearn
Still get chills 13 years later
You can't write stories like this. Simply unbelievable.
EVERY TIME!!!!!
I would argue you could've called that game over after that, because essentially, although it counts as one point, everybody knew it was over right there because it was as if he said, not in my house, not in my house!!! 20!

"Kariya, the fans want one.... SCORE!!!!!!"
WHAT A CALL!!!!!!
Still one of the best calls in hockey history
the sudden shift of energy in the crowd is what i find phenomenal about this
this is what defines not only a ture hockey player but what a true captain really is. Kariya showed alot of guts and grit and made himself a legend with this goal. To take a hit from Scott Stevens like he did and to come back and just rip one past Brodeur is what legends are made of
I think you meant to say after taking a dirty elbow to the head by Scott Stevens. Fuck Stevens
Nicholas K No doubt if that was in today's NHL Stevens would have been thrown out of hockey a long time ago, but back then that wasnt considered a legal hit but if that wouldve happened today he would have been tossed out of hockey
PENS68 dirty hit I meant

Does anyone else get goose bumps after seeing that goal and hearing Gary’s call
Ahhh, the good old days when Honda Center used to be called the Arrowhead Pond of Anaheim. Brings back memories.
Kariya would be absolutely ripping it up in this goal crazy era
What Gary Thorne said was perfectly coined at the best moment. Paul Kariya = Greatest Mighty Duck player ever!!!!!!!!
What a call from Gary Thorne!
Taylor Cassell my favorite hockey call ever. maybe in all of sports.
Well its top 2 nothing better then gary Thorne joe sakic accepts the cup from bettman and after 22 years!! Raymond!!! Bourque!!! No better call then tht I still get chills from tht
@@chaisesamargis3149 do you believe it do you believe it he said we will win he just pick up a hat trick epic

Even as a Devils fan this is an incredible moment
My favorite hockey commentator call
Everyone remembers this except Paul Kariya
"The fans want one ..." is what really makes this call.
What an incredible moment. And the call by Gary Thorne should go down as one of the greatest of all time, in any sport. Sublime.
I miss Gary and co. calling NHL games on ESPN. Best crew ever.

Gary had a great call but don't discount what Kariya just did. He walked off a massive concussion to come back to dagger the devils.
Gary Thorne's best call of all time
one of the greatest calls ever.
I was 9/10 years old and started to get into hockey when I saw this, became a Ducks fan after this!!!!!
Should have been Anaheim's cup that year. The championship season that wasn't.
No it shouldn't have my boy Scotty Stevens won another for the great NJ Devils and came back after that game with a 3-0 win and a shutout for marty Brodeur. Although this was my favorite stanley cup final you have to have respect for the mighty ducks after that blast by the great Paul Kiriya
theproducerspart2 yeah. Devils already had 2
Considering the Devils more or less kicked their ass in their 4 wins and the Ducks needed OT for two of their wins, I call bullshit
I had goosebumps too!!! 0:32
I remember this like it was yesterday. Kariya was an animal
The Captain Has Returned!!!!!!!
Gary throne absolutely kill that call
Legendary.
best memory of my life!!! still remmber being there best feeling ever!!!
OH MY GOSH!!! I'm so JELL of you right now!!! I can't even imagine what it was like seeing the swing of emotion!!! You can tell your grandkids you saw that happen.
He looked like he was ko'd???? He WAS was ko'd!!!
Literally KO'd. We all thought he was dead
0:12 The 2nd Greatest Call in NHL History if ESPN Wants to improve there Ratings or PBP Than they should bring Back Gary Thorne
Still to this day gives me goosebumps
I was there.
What a shot.
Great call gary
:24 "i didnt stick my elbow up high enough, damn"
legendary goal by Karyia, too bad they couldnt get thus ring! Also a legendary call by Gary Thorne!
did he mention if it was written down or was it off the cuff?
77landmark it was probably off the cuff. Dude seemed to just know exactly what to say and when to say it. That’s why I miss ESPN national hockey night because him and Clement were the best duo.
@Sickof GuysnamedTodd That makes it even more legendary, the fact it rolled off the tongue so easily, goosebumps
The fans want one...
SCOOOOOORE!!
Kariya, the fans want one - SCOOOOOOORRREEEEE!
Thorne is best announcer ever way better emrick

Sorry you missed the 70s and 80s. They tower over the 90s.
A shot like that got past Marty Brodeur in his prime. No goalie past, present, or future would have stopped that shot
Kariya has balls of steel. The look on stevens' face. "I killed u, ur dead" hes thinkin
The Ducks should retire Paul Kariya's Jersey # 9.
ok, I don't have a Facebook page.
I know why didn't they
Well now they did.
Well, they have now
Happening tomorrow night :)
One of the best calls in hockey history. Came back just to watch this and I don't even cheer for the Ducks.
Courtesy to NHL ON ABC
Hated the Ducks my entire life. This call still gives me fuckin chills though.
Sick jersey !!
IMO Paul Kariya on his prime was the best player in the NHL. Too bad he got such an injury streak. This still gives me chills, I was so sad when the devils one this one
I wasn't cuz I'm a die hard NJ fan but holy shit that puck must have been going over 100mph
0:25 That sure as hell ain't water!
Sunday night can't come fast enough
What a great run and great game that was. Anyone remember the song they played throughout those playoffs after a goal?
Legend
God I love hockey
Scott Stevens and Martin Brodeur disliked this
even though i hate anaheim that goal was amazing
why'd they keep filming the New Jersey captain? he clearly wasn't reacting any different than anyone else. Yet it kept panning onto him haha
+bradhuygens Because Scott Stevens (the captain) hit Kariya so hard he had to go back to the dressing room before coming back to score this goal.
what I want to know if what was he (P.K.) mouthing after he scored?
One of the greatest moments in Stanley cup history. Scott Stevens, what’s up?
Bro Hymn?
Paul please come back to hockey. player development commentary or something.
Dude was suppose to be dead.
And that was separated that moment from the other big moments. anyone who saw him lay on the ice had that sinking feeling that he died right there, and for him to come back was just like a hero rising when he was counted out. Pre concussion protocol anything
That's how you beat Stevens
No one can beat my boy Scotty
Kariya doesnt remember this
They’ll take the game 7 loss to their grave. I cant believe they didnt win
If only Joe Buck called this goal
OMG 2000's Joe Buck was the worst. He would've ruined the specialty of this moment. "Kariya with the puck. He shoots, he scores."
@@dodger1214 With Joe Buck it would be like Kariya with the puck; it's in
bring back the the real uniforms! plain black ones need to go asap
When Kariya got back up and scored the game winning goal, Scott Stevens didn't know what had hit *him.*
Scott Stevens was trash. He was allowed to destroy players' careers because nobody in the NHL had the balls to stop him. He can burn in hell. Hall of Famer, my ass. He has no business being among names like Sakic, Yzerman, or Gretzky. Kariya has every reason to stay away from the NHL as long as players, whose sole purpose is to harm other players, exist.

a4lem I wouldn't say that Stevens destroyed players' careers; Many of the players who he laid those huge hits on went on to continue their careers.
This ranks as one of the greatest goals since he was badly concussed and still came back and scored a laser against a hall of famer goalie and the dejected look on that cheapshot artist Stevens was pure beautiful
