  • I replace the thermostat on a Jeep Renegade. This car is a 2016 with only 40,000 miles. I bought the part on rock auto for $80. The dealership quoted me $800 to replace this little thing. Save money and do it yourself.

    If you look on the backside of the coolent reservoir. There is a fill mark . If the code comes up it may just be low coolent mine was just that. When it gets hot it will drop below the mark . Causing the service engine light to come on. Just add coolent and disconnect the battery for 10 minutes and reconnect. Mine was not overheating just was being tripped by being low on coolent. Alot of people may being doing unnecessary repairs or by themselves or the dealerships.

    Definitely appreciate you for doing this video. Dealership just quoted me $1129.00 to replace this thing. He also tried to say the part was inside the engine closer to the bottom…far away from the catalytic converter that they JUST replaced due to a recall.

      @@ladybuggs79 Good luck! I took my time because it wasn't my car and wanted to get it right. Also stopped for dinner and a trip to the parts store for hose clamps added some additional time to the job.

      Well it took me 8 hours! But I had to buy the bottom radiator hose because the reservoir hose was brittle 😔

      They do not have this part at any chain parts store. What they have is aftermarket garbage that will fail again. When this much work goes into replacing a part, install something quality.

    I feel like removing mine and as a girl this looks interesting 🤔, sometimes you got to do things yourself to know that it was done the right way.

    Around the 4:30 point you completely glazed over the most difficult part of the job. How did you get the firewall side bottom bolt ? You can't fit an extension between the bottom rad' hose.

    • @jessedrifts
      @jessedrifts  День тому

      I used my hand after I loosened it with a straight extension on only half of the bolt. You have to get creative

    My sensor 0128 thermostat code came on, but my thermostat and coolant system is working fine. Do I still need to replace it? The service light is disabling my 4x4 when it comes on..

    • @jessedrifts
      @jessedrifts  Рік тому +1

      Yes you need to replace it. There is no winging it. My jeep was doing the exact same thing then started overheating because the thermostat wouldn't open

      Check your coolent level. Mark is on back of reservoir. To reset code disconnect battery terminal for 10 minutes. May just need coolent.
