Knowing french I could guess the meaning of the harder ones because advanced english words, particularly adjectives, tend to use the same roots as french words, if they are not taken straight out of modern french, such as "bizarre" and "penchant"
Yeah that’s the cool thing about English with advanced words, they are normally very similar to French or other Latin languages. Maybe I should introduce more phrasal verbs into the next video 🤔
They derive from Latin not French. But I agree. I know the meaning of many of the difficult words just because they sound familiar in Romance languages
One good thing about having Italian as a native language is the fact that all the English vocabulary which comes from Latin and French is very easy to learn, even at an advanced level.
That’s incredible that how English knowledge is endless! Every single day comes out a new word or sentence that improves our proficiency in the idiom. Thanks, bloke.
Thanks for the post Shifu, peace of cake, we don't have to use difficult words in English just to talk to our friends or strangers. I usually use formal English during live speech so it's not necessary to use those words for every day conversation. Albeit is a century word and another word for gig is a temporary worker or job. I'm a 21st century boy and I prefer simple English so people can easily understand me and they don't have look for a dictionary. God bless medical student Malaysia 👍👌
Great vid, as usual. Thanks a bunch for sharing & for the pdf. I'll take the opportunity to say that long, Latin-rooted words are never that complicated for Spanish-speakers. It's the short, Anglo-Saxon words, which do go over our head.
I got 16 from 17, but some of the words of C1-C2 levels was just a lucky guess, the other ones I came across with reading W.S. Maugham's novels. The video was very helpful, it made me to read again. Thank you so much❤😊😍
Remember and know parisine, latin, normand til greek helps to decode the English logic, semantic and symbols. When the level of english up, you see a romanicity flowing through english forcing you study Mediterranean civilizations to understand deeper the erudite english of nowadays. 🍺🍺🍺🍺🥂🥂🥂🥂🥂
I answered correctly 15 out of the 17 words. Not bad I guess. Albeit I was able to guess the meaning of a few of them since they sound similar in my mother tongue. Thanks a lot for this videos! I love watching them and always learning something new about this beutiful langauge :)
Most I knew, some I had a good (but not random or lucky) guess of (under the weather, magnanimous, coalesce) I only missed hoard, ubiquitous and penchant.
I am Italian, and I can also speak Spanish, so I could guess them all, except 'penchant' and 'hoard'. The point is that such advanced words would never pop up in my mind during daily conversations, albeit potentially useful in writing.
I got full each of that advance words but could you please clarify me about conjunction " albeit" because I've been perceive that as " even though" i believe its an advanced alternative for " even though" what's your personal opinion to my state? Could you clarify if that's alright then also reply if you don't mind 🙂?
It is so bizarre that the advanced words were easier to understand its meaning. As some people already commented below about the latin roots, for me, being a Portuguese speaker, some of these words are already known.
11 out of 17. Was it good? Btw I have a question, I'm practicing my English speaking with ChatGPT. Is there any problem in that? Love from Bangladesh 🇧🇩
11! I speak Spanish and French, that make understand some borrowed words and words of Latín origin. I don't like how English or American people pronounce 'penchant' 😂 😅
@InstantEnglishUK @InstantEnglishUK You're the best!! Thanks alot... I'm from Iraq and it's my pleasant to watch such this useful and fantastic content 🤍

Some Cognate words (English - Portuguese 🇧🇷):
Vital = Vital
Bizarre = Bizarro
Aspect = Aspecto
Coalesce = Coalesce
Strange =Estranho
Magnanimius = Magnânimo

Amazing!
I'm French, and I was able to guess the meaning of a lot of words because of my French language 😁 it's very fun
Thank you so much
Lucky you!
Ubiquitious is my favorite one
I knew all of them but had a tiny brain fart on "ubiquitous" 😅 Very useful list of words, especially the C1-C2 levels.
Thank you! Keep going mate
Got all but ubiquitous too. 😅

Nice little trick!
I didn't know 15 (ubiquitous) nor 17 (penchant). Thank you, Chris, for this useful video.🎉🎉🎉

Amazing! How long have you been learning English?
I knew 14 of them…:(…that idiom, penchant and guessed ubiquitous right.
14/17 quite well
Decent effort!!!
9/17 but I found some of them with logic despite not knowing them.
Thought gig was like a food delivery like job
It could be used as a temporary job in general
14/17
Thanks to latin I got them all … with exception of the idiom … so the only one `I could fail I did fail!
More idioms next time then
Most of these were easy cuz my English was good from the starting i used to be the topper of my class
Well done

2:05, what do you mean by "use it with ON" if you didnt put it in the sentence
I bought a house on the outskirts of town
I answered correctly 9 question?
Well done!
Doesn't aspect also mean opinion? A point of view.
Not opinion no. You could say a particular status or phase in which something appears or may be regarded
They studied every aspect of the question.
Out of 17, i scored 12 ..but most of the wrong answers are from C level😢
Keep studying!
@InstantEnglishUK yup💪💪
I almost guessed 15.
I got a lot of them correct, Also i'm from chile
what a legend!
The "hard words" have latin roots ! It wasn't hard, honestly. For us spanish speakers, the hard words are the germanic ones.
Thanks for letting me know 👀
too many from Latin. Too easy for romance languages (portuguese, spanish, french, italian, romanian...)
Still they are considered advanced words in English. I’ll add more phrasal verbs next time
👍👍👍😊
