So many different shots on one video! Many people are living their dreams through you my guy. You outdid yourself on this one!
I remember following you when u were in the basement during covid days, amazing to see your passion grow and love that we are both lumix guys!
Loved this dude. This is what it's all about... As someone who mainly shoots and edits for the same company, this was motivating....I can tell you put some passion into this. Awesome work! (Also went to japan for vacation yeeaars go but now I wanna go back!)
Damn these luts are looking awesome ! I think you really nailed the best use case for the S9 !
This poor little lumix guy is getting way more hate than he deserves :(
Wow, that was epic… incredibly beautiful shots, you’re a great storyteller as well. Thanks for sharing your experience
Incoming snowball effect! It's only a matter of time to fame and recognition your channel so rightly deserves!
Your concept of edit, color, and share on the fly fits my thoughts about this camera as well. And though the S9 can’t replace my “day of the shoot” kit, it can fill a lot of other holes during preproduction or fast BTS clips, or for personal projects when light and compact matters most. As a stand-alone camera it’s okay, but as an extension of the Lab app or vice versa, Panasonic seems to have cooked up a fairly potent combination. And once S5II compatibility kicks in, then you can preview looks on the fly and then incorporate this into your larger body filming. Should be fun to learn and test. Thanks for the vid.
Exactly. The S9 has a lot of strengths the S5II and X can't offer. Really mostly the compact inconspicuous body. But same imagine quality. Sure it has limitations, but people that don't see the potential in its strengths confuses me hah
@@DustinArmstrongPro I think we had a bunch of noisy folks who thought they were getting $1200 Leica rangefinder, rather than the somewhat substantial evolution we received. But yeah, I see a lot of possibilities.
@@waveland Usually the haters/impatient enthusiasts are usually the loudest. I'm fairly confident they'll get the camera they want soon. Just need a little bit of patience haha
Man... you put a lot of effort into that video. So beautifully done, really enjoyable to watch. I actually think you could say the same thing about pretty much any camera. If you really take the time to learn it, and if you set it up the way you like it, you can probably do everything in camera and have a really good experience and outcome. Maybe the only difference is you can't share your work immediately on most cameras up until this particular moment, but other than that, I'm sure the S9 is awesome, just like all of the cameras available to any of us. Awesome video, so much respect for the way you put out these short films. Thanks for sharing.
For sure. Not all cameras can burn in a LUT too so that gave me the color palette I like, but yes you got it. Any camera really these days can put out great footage of you really learn its strengths and weaknesses. Appreciate you watching🙏
It seems to me that the skills of the person shooting outweigh the abilities of the camera. It also seems that when the person shooting the video is having fun doing it, they shoot better footage. It may just be me, but I think we all need the reminder of how much fun it was when we started to stay engaged and creative. I support this, then again. That's the job though.
Hard to find those roots of just enjoying making a video when you do it for a living. Hopefully it reminds people to just go have fun filming something and making something out of it
@@DustinArmstrongPro I have to find those roots every time I pull out a paint brush. It’s what keeps me painting. Even when it’s side lines on a car in a repair shop. We all need to remind ourselves.
Great timing on the edits. Nice to see what can be done when you just do it!
S9 looks great.
I saw your 28-200 video the other day... now I got recommended this one, I had to comment. Just wow!!
omg, where did this come from?! please we need more of this Dustin, amazing vid, really looking forward to using your LUT whenever it comes out in the new Lumix App for the S5IIX, thank you, keep making, cheers!
I'm full of surprises😉 definitely a goal to make more videos like these. They are a lot of work but totally worth it. The LUT will be available free on my website later today and soon on the LUMIX lab app!
Bravo! I love this video. This has to be featured by Lumix for showing the true heart of the S9. Not to be a professional workhorse, or replace smartphones, or your pro camera, but to have the best of both worlds in one device, to have fun with.
In a world where we always seek for a perfect camera, we often forget to get a fun camera, with all its compromises. Stay safe and keep shooting!
Exactly. We forget to just go out and have fun sometimes. Appreciate it🙏
Dude this video is really great! Love the LUT! Have been using it lots. Great work Dustin!
Loving your content bro! been following you since you started tik tok! I love to see yo pushing your content as well working with harris! You truly an inspiration to me. Keep it up!
Should be seeing some videos like this on Harris's personal channel too. Appreciate you🙏
Thanks also for sharing your BLOCKTRA400 LUT, looking forward to giving it a proper go. One thing that would be cool is a BTS video of you capturing some of this content and also you discussing how you’re exposing and setting the white balance (I saw the note about warmer wb). Would love a tutorial on nailing it in camera.
Love it! Thanks putting together and sharing your experience with all of us😊
Fantastic results OOC. Very impressive.
It is also great to know that this nice features are coming to all the newer cameras.
I have the feeling there was one of this "One more thing" moments in Japan but we have to wait for tomorrow to learn what happened in Japan and stayed in Japan until the embargo lifts.
I'm excited for newer and some of the older ones are getting LUMIX lab app support
@@DreadsOfAmbition yeah it's too bad. Probably doesn't have the hardware unfortunately
Great video man, loved it. Beautiful footage and amazing storytelling. 🙌🏻🔥
yo! nice as usual. btw which monitor you use? I´ve been looking for a curved one good enough for editing and seems you got one of those
Bro shot everything in Japan including a Panasonic lightbulb
There's even a Panasonic building and Panasonic rain gutter that's not in the edit😂 appreciate you letting me use those shots for the video!
What are your settings to get those gorgeous exposures in moving cars and trains without looking too bright or too dark or flickering in between...? I don´t see a perceivable rolling shutter either...
This is awesome! I love the totally chilled out deer at the 4:14 mark 😅
Dude you went so hard on this video!!!
It was a long time coming. I've needed to make a video going hard for a long time. But now I've set a new bar I gotta keep up with for myself😂
You’re making it hard for the haters to hate. Fun video man! Keep doing what excites you!
This was the original video I wanted to make. Wasn't even going to post an embargo video. Appreciate you watching🙏
Cinematic Gravy! Love it. Another great video and demonstration. Thank you for this. Inspirational. ✌
Oooo grabbing my popcorn for this🍿
@@DustinArmstrongPro Brother, such a fire video! The story telling, cut scenes, the look of the video, the shots! Soooo good!
Wow I'm supposed to be editing and not watching videos tonight.. but damn it's amazing!
question on finality - I shoot baked in conversion luts - but I find myself hesitant to burn in a color grade, as my ever changing mind might wonder what the heck I was thinking when I got home & opened the file...are there any mental check lists you go through, or definitive scenarios where you would or wouldn't burn in a color lut?
I'm not sure I'd burn in a LUT on a professional shoot, but I think this made me want to try planning what I want my colors to look like before a shoot then using that LUT to monitor so then it'll save time to grade in post since I'll be exposing for that look. Something to think about!
First of all: I really like your channel mate, big up! One question: How do you set up your white balance for your night shots (especially when you're baking in a LUT not going to grade them later on) with all these different artificial light sources (street lights, car head lights, neon signs, ...)? Do you then still balance in post? Or is it like set&forget?
Thank you! With this LUT I was usually between 8000-4800K. Normally I will try to get WB where I want in camera. I usually in artificial lighting tend to leave my WB warmer. I think it looks better than 3200. I just try to match what my eyes see
Love it man you angle camera and color your nail it which lens are you using in the tele scene?
@@DustinArmstrongPro 5:09 on the bridge Osaka at night and Thank you for free lut Can I ask some more,I love your choice of music can you share me where I can get the music. I'll use it for my family travel to Thailand
@@Keilikeramen The wider bridge shot at Osaka was the Sigma 16-28mm and the tighter was the S PRO 50mm. 5:09 was the 28-200mm. Most the music is from musicbed
The shooting part is fun, but the editing part isn't fun. This camera really does ease daily vlogger's workflow. But I still love color grading though haha.
Yo soo so good!! how many filters do you stack this is so interesting :P does it not get soft?
Thanks! I had 3 stacked. It probably makes the image softer no way around it but I don't mind

Remember life before we bought into and accepted post-processing workflows as the norm? Ya, me neither.
Really nice video! F the haters, and if you ever come to Brazil I'll play some soccer with you!
Photography and videography are the only professions / hobby that I've seen people literally belittle and rip apart each other. Makes me hate about commenting on gear and techniques. Thanks for showing us that (while gear helps), you can use a tool (limitations and all) to create something good. I am on the fence what my next camera should be. Do I want the S5IIX as I am a hybrid shooter. Or do I want the compactness of the S9 for everyday. I'm am also considering the Fuji xt-50, but I wonder about it's ibis and autofocus. I don't mind manual focus (although my eyes are getting older). But I don't carry a gimbal around.
Whatever camera I get, it would be a replacement for my Nikon d3100. I love the photo quality of that, but carrying 2 cameras if I want to capture video as well is limiting and a hassle. I am probably 75% video and 25% photography (depending on location, project, and scene). Also depends if I'm shooting for fun or need to make content for UA-cam or someone else. Decisions decisions. You make the S9 look so good.
For what it's worth, the footage is Japan is also 100% handheld and only on maybe 5 shots did I add stabilization. The IBIS is really good on the S9. I get it though still a hard decision!
Ayo, my guy. Why’s this the first time YT is showing me your butter? Dope video. Good job with the early audience connection too. I ain’t got time for shit, hence my click from your title.
I’ve got an FX30 but think I’m gonna bite the bullet and finally just bake the LUT into my SLOG3 footage to save some time.
It's my first time honestly really showing off what I'm capable of so maybe that's why😂
There's some disadvantages of course baking it in, but man it saved me so much time on this video not having to color grade it. And it was fun to do something new and focus on getting my shots to look good instead of doing it in post
@@DustinArmstrongProright on dude. I’m on that dad life rn. Content is harder to get out with quality.
I swapped off SLOG3 to Scinetone for time savings but maybe I’ll try baking it in. We’ll see
Cheers brotha ✌🏽
WOW, it´s so impressive!! Big thumbs up!👍 One question, which lenses did you use?
Most of this video was shot on the LUMIX 28-200mm, 50mm S PRO, 24-70mm S PRO, Sigma 16-28mm, 7artisans 9mm.
What an awesome video. I love this cameras too...
@@DustinArmstrongPro I just downloaded the Lumix Lab app for Android. It´s beautiful and seem easy to use! I aleready downloaded some luts, he he. I hope you´ll make a video about it.
What have you done for noise reduction?
Nothing. It's straight from camera. The only thing added to a few clips are flicker reduction from the lights
@@DustinArmstrongPro that's awesome! Which lens were you using for this?
@@brettgoulder5208check the link in the description. The lenses I used are listed
Beautiful! ❤
Great video. Another brilliant reminder that the camera is a tool. It doesn't do your laundry. Or reply to your mom's texts.
When I get a new camera, I shoot tests. Tests for the audio to get proper settings for the internal amps. And tests to get my head around its controls and settings for video.
But, before all of that, I watch tons of videos about the camera. From trusted creators who I know to have a history of being accurate about cameras. To other creators, so I can see a variety of experiences with the camera. So, before I buy it, I already know what it CAN do. And what features it DOES have. If it has what I need. Then I get it. Simple.
Wonderful edition...
@@DustinArmstrongPro But, what is your LUT? Where can I buy it? Thank you
@@joseangel4428check my website sometime later today. I'm actually giving it away for free😊 meant to be used for LUMIX cameras and it'll also be available free on the LUMIX lab app soon
Your editing and composition is amazing. to have a tenth of your skill...
Great story telling. No wonder Lumix keeps you as their creator / "ambasador". This means they briefed you about LUTS before you left. Kinda impressive if all that footage is with burned in LUT (which S5II can do too, so it's nothing new, as you said).
Regarding the ability to edit the photos on the phone and hand them out quickly, there are plenty of YT videos (some more than 2 years old) when photographers use their Canon or Sony camera tethered with their phone and they edit on the fly in LR. So this workflow is nothing revolutionary. OM systems have such app for OM cameras for a long time. Maybe Panasonic one is better, I do not know, but I prefer to edit my photos on the computer. I'm too old to do anything on the phone. But guess for young ppl this workflow is cool.
Actually wasn't briefed. The story presented itself while I was there and adapted/shifted along the way. Even while I was editing the script/story changed. The beauty of being able to do whatever I want😎
Yeah definitely more for younger/amateurs. For professional work probably wouldn't do this but for on the fly for fun stuff I love it. Great workflow and the app works great
Can you show us a full rig for PROs? Record external and with a mic accessory with headphones? That would shut them up haters.
I mean I didn't use a rig for this so I don't even need to rig it hah
i wonder how much a ticket to japan coats these days...
Depends where you're coming from. It's about $800-1500 depending on the day for me. It's super affordable in Japan right now if you're exchanging USD. So the flight is more expensive but it's super cheap in Japan
It's not the camera my man. The lighting conditions.
This can’t be true, because videos/photos aren’t impossible without banding and/or rolling shutter! So this must be fake or shoot with Nikon Z8 😅
Never in my life have I created anything that's half as good as this.
@@DustinArmstrongPro I mean I did create maybe 5% of this so I'll take credit for that
Probably looks great for 99% of the people watching. Probably you had overheating issues, you probably shot a lot more footage than you usually do because some of it would turn out unusable for sure. If the practicality of it is the idea, you can get very good footage with an iphone 15 pro and get the smartphone benefits as well. You don't even need a laptop, just publish straight from the phone. Can you make good use of this camera? 100% Should you spend professional gear level money for something you will only use as an amateur? If you can afford it and it's fun for you, of course! People should know the cons not only the pros...
I had no overheating issues. Probably 60% of what I shot in Japan didn't go in the video, but it's all very usable. Why are people so against this camera? Lol
@@DustinArmstrongPro Because it's going to make a lot of people very sad, after they learn what they paid for and missing on. This camera is taking advantage of people who don't really understand shit about gear. You are adding to the deception.
@@DustinArmstrongPro I don't understand emoji, guessing you replied "cool" and hinted that you really don't give a damn. I know, it's kinda the problem... See I can understand where you stand on this issue: you like making content, you didn't actually try to deceive anybody with the content and if you are doing so indirectly then it is not your fault, but the industry's fault and you are but one man. Now it's time for you to understand the opposing opinion which is: nobody with enough traction will make waves about the cons of the camera, consumerism will cheapen everything in this industry, it's just a waste of energy and resources. Panasonic will be happy with the sales, they will encourage this behaviour in the future. Can you explain in detail who this camera is for and who it is not for?
@isinox Dude why not just get lost. If you want to make a video specifically about the cameras flaws for yourself or people who are negative just like you then do that. You simply sound butthurt. You tried to tell him he had overheating and lots of unusable footage and he said he didn't and you are trying to simply argue. Nothing anyone says will satisfy you anyway so just get TF on and go play in traffic or something.
