Wow. Finding this channel again is such a blast from the past. And this was the same UA-cam account that's still subscribed to it! You had a band with a name that sounded like a Donovan song, right? I used to watch all your videos as a teen when I was first learning to play the guitar and dreaming about recording my own music. It only took me about 15 years to start working towards that, but in a way, finding you again made me look back and gave me more motivation to go forward. Thanks, man!
very nice video . Glad tp see how much you enjoy your guitar . No dealers by me that carry Loars , I tried a used one that I would compare to a Gibson es 125 full depth , but did not buy it because The build quality felt kind of cheap to me . We are in another era of guitar building now , great ones being built all over the world that are affordable . Thanks for the video ,I would try another Loar for sure if I see one !
Nice video, but as far as I see, the LH-350 VS should ave a pickup ? I suppose this review is about the LH-600 VSB ? Anyways, what model of floating pickup is this exactly (as I'm fond of it..) ?
This was a really helpful video and I appreciate it. There's one thing I wish videos like this would mention, The scale of the instrument, that often forgotten overlooked fact is critical to jazz players specifically. There are bedrock techniques used by jazz musicians that just cannot be done on a short scale instrument with floppy strings. Watch some old video of West Montgomery and you'll see exactly what I mean.. string tension and thickness is critical, pick up height is another often overlooked but critical factor... Watch montgomery, his pickups are high and he's just barely brushing those strings with his thumb.
Own one. Surprisingly good acoustic sound that translates well into organic jazz tone. Neck is very chunky, but also surprisingly fast. Bought discontinued model cheap. Really fun to play.
Interesting review Lewin - I have been looking at this guitar and have read some reviews that were not very positive, especially regarding craftmanship and general build quality but I take it you seem quite happy!
Music go round says they have a 650 used for 700??? What do the 650's go for normally? Like 1200 or maybe more? Wow. I would really be looking at Peerless. But just my taste as I like them.
For my (now discontinued) LH-319, I replaced the ebony bridge with a roller bridge and shoved a harmonica under the strings butting up against the bridge from the back. the string run from bridge to tailpiece really cuts the sustain, and the harmonica wedge (G) solidifies things well under the palm. Plus once in a while I'll finish on a G and cut the signal and the harmonica is ringing out. It is PLEASANT.
A rough solder joint comes also with a higher resistance to the flow of current which can ultimately change the tonal characteristics of the guitar electrically. My suggestion; Take it apart and re solder. While your at it, why not change out all of the electronics components including the Kent Armstrong pickup, for the American made counterparts? The betterment in tone, pick response and volume are appreciable. I did this mod on a Korean made D'Angelico Excel [very similar guitar] and it worked like gang busters. Generally I think that Korea is finally learning how to build a guitar, but they still have a good long way to go to compete with true craftsmen. Would I recommend this guitar on a budget. Sure..why not
Could not find a dealer in my area that had one in stock. So hers a amazon Link:www.amazon.com/The-Loar-LH-350-VS-Hand-Carved-Sunburst/dp/B003H8ZRFA/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1418837556&sr=8-3&keywords=loar+guitar

I love the sound when fingerpicking, I'm a bass player, but love the fingerpicking in guitars. And in this guitar it sounds specially beautiful.
Thanks for mentioning the neck shape.... I like chunky necks on my guitars. Very interested now.

I thought the same thing about the neck! Chunky, but fast.

Hmm, interesting but at around 720 for the Loar, the Peerless low end for a bit more has my attention too.

Really. Well 700 used doesn't sound so bad to me then.

Can you show a video demonstrating what you did? I'm curious on exactly what you did
I guess you're totally nuts
@@BicycleJoeTomasello bad guess!
1st thing is there No tone control?? just adjusting the Amp for it?

Hi, may I ask you the amplification you are using please ? I that an amp or an audio interface ?
Audio interface w/Garage Band, according to video's beginning
How is it acoustically? Also, have you ever looked at the Washburn j600 and thoughts?
I have an LH-319 (discontinued I think) and the acoustic qualities are limited.
no tone control?
Are those flat wound strings on the guitar ?.
Nope
You have me convinced. I'll compare it with an Emperor Joe Pass and a Peerless when I go shopping.
Nice revige thanks
Hey nice video ! What can it be compared with?
Honestly I couldn't tell you...anyone have anything they could compare this too?
GaragebandandBeyond
Eastman makes some comparable stuff.
Would you use at a gig?
Definitely yes.
GaragebandandBeyond
Thanks
How about intonation adjusting?
NeZversTutorials Didn't need any.
GaragebandandBeyond But in case it's needed, like changing string gauges or bridge height?
NeZversTutorials It's a floating bridge, so you can slide it around very easily if you need to.
+GaragebandandBeyond electric guitar strings? is that the norm with this guitar?
Liked and subscribed.
How much is it?
