I remember singing this song during chapel services at school in South Africa before 2010. It was a Methodist school. SO grateful for those years and having the Word spoken and sung to me then. Now after salvation, these songs pop into my head at random and I can truly sing them from the heart.

I remember singing this one at an Anglican school in the seventies. By the time I had left comprehensive school in 1984 I think that I was among the last group to receive anything approaching a Christian input within their education.
Anyway this, Oh Jesus I Have Promised, Stand Up For Jesus and Amazing Grace were my favourites. I didn't know why then and I tried to hide it from my peers at the time, but songs such as those made my heart glad because deep down I felt my saviours hand upon my life.

Yes. Paul was quoting and amplifying the prophet Isaiah, ch 45: 22-23 when he wrote this in Philippians Ch 2: 10.
It's a blessed reassurance of our Saviour's Lordship and that even those who may persecute us for a season will ultimately give an account to Him, whether they like it or not!

Same here, in the very early 70s. it's the first time I have heard it since then and it just made me cry so much. I have no idea why but with everything going in right now, it just feels that I need something to give me hope that this evil and corrupt world can not go on for much longer. I feel lost. I'm totally not a religious person but am feeling more and more that there must be something better than this. I saw myself as a7 year old singing that hymn in assembly, especially the verse 'bore it up triumphant' our teacher would really pound on that panio during that verse in particular. We were so happy then.
I have to laugh though as one of our other songs we used to sing w went something like, 'you won't get me I'm part of the union? 😂

I am used to the other tune for this hymn. So, this setting took me by surprise. By comparison it sounds like carnival music. But I really do like how the high spirited music changes the sense of the hymn. In the heavier setting I am used to, I always get the mental image of his bearing solemnly our worship up to heaven to the throne of the Father. This setting as of yet doesnt give me a mental picture at all.

Yes. This song always bows me away. I can't wait for the day when Jesus marches Satan, broken and defeated, past the ranks of the redeemed before he gets his own eternal reward. We will all laugh at him, saying: "Ha! ha! Is this the one who terrorised the nations?" Indeed all who scoff now will bow that knee later and have to confess his justness, the great deceiver included.

This tune is a pleasure to sing collectively - everyone in unison. It does bring back memories of school days for many , but I don't think it can described as the ' modern tune.' It was copyrighted in 1960 - not sure when it was composed. I love the words - ' Crown him as your captain in temptation's hour. Let his will enfold you with its light and power' Stirring stuff!

1 At the name of Jesus ev'ry knee shall bow,
ev'ry tongue confess him King of glory now.
'Tis the Father's pleasure we should call him Lord,
who from the beginning was the mighty Word.
2 At his voice creation sprang at once to sight,
all the angel faces, all the hosts of light,
thrones and dominations, stars upon their way,
all the heav'nly orders in their great array.
3 Humbled for a season to receive a name
from the lips of sinners unto whom he came,
faithfully he bore it spotless to the last,
brought it back victorious, when from death he passed.
4 In your hearts enthrone him; there let him subdue
    all that is not holy, all that is not true;
crown him as your Captain in temptation's hour:
let his will enfold you in its light and pow'r.
5 Brothers, this Lord Jesus shall return again,
    with his Father's glory, with his angel train;
for all wreaths of empire meet upon his brow,
and our hearts confess him King of glory now.

Somebody wrote "Spirit" when referring to the Spirit of God starting with a small "s" in the lyrics. When referring to the Spirit of God, please ALWAYS write Spirit starting with a Capital "S."
HAVE REVERENCE FOR GOD THE FATHER, AND GOD THE SON, AND GOD THE HOLY SPIRIT ALWAYS.
I LOVE YOU, O MY HOLY FATHER IN HEAVEN, I LOVE YOU, O MY LORD JESUS, I LOVE YOU, O MY BEAUTIFUL, AND GREAT, AND WONDERFUL, AND MARVELOUS, AND PRECIOUS, AND LOVELY, AND POWERFUL HOLY SPIRIT.
I LOVE YOU, BECAUSE YOU FIRST LOVED ME. I JOHN 4:19.
THANK YOU, JESUS, FOR LOVING ME,
THANK YOU, JESUS, FOR SAVING ME,
HAIL JESUS!!!!!!! CELEBRATE, PRAISE, WORSHIP, MAGNIFY, AND GLORIFY JESUS EVERY DAY FOREVER MORE, HALLELUJAH!!!!!!! AMEN, AND AMEN!!!!!!!

Without the text on the screen, it’s impossible to understand a thing. And it’s pretty much the case for all of them.

At the name of Jesus every knee shall bow and not in football stadiums in honour of the false creed of anti racism.

Shame they had the piano trying to overpower the organ.

plume; I don't believe the pianist was trying to overpower the organ at all. Remember the organ CAN be turned down but the piano can't. The is a large church with a state of the art sound system and, knowing church music as I do, I believe the two instruments did a fine job complementing each other as they are designed to do. This was a WORSHIP service, not a competition. It may be that way in your church but not with these fine, well trained musicians.
My church is VERY small. We used to have 6 pianists in attendance but now we are down to one. He is quite talented but is limited. We have a keyboard that can easily transpose music to the proper key, as he plays it in one of the keys comfortable to him.
Crown Him, King of Glory NOW!
