  • There was a time when Rivne town boasted a man-made mount Vesuvius and a Venus statue. It had one of the biggest parks in the East of Europe that welcomed Polish magnates and even the Polish king himself.
Eventually, the estate upkeep proved to be costly. After the princes abandoned the palace, a stinky swamp came into the place of the lake and a boating-station.
Polish administration had the swamp drained, while Soviet engineering students later turned it into the cascade of ponds. Warsaw architects also developed a town layout and Soviet town officials also kept the project. It wasn’t fully realized and two of the planned main roads were never constructed. Now they could have spared the modern town of its traffic jams.
