Croatia is building a $500 million USD bridge linking its territories, that will potentially block Bosnia and Herzegovina from the Mediterranean Sea. To prevent Bosnia and Herzegovina from being landlocked, it owns a small strip of land along the Adriatic Sea. However, this land splits Croatia, causing border check logistics issues. To solve this problem, Croatia is building a bridge around Bosnia, called the Peljesac bridge. This bridge could increase connectivity between north and southern Croatia, improve tourism, and boost economic growth. However, it could also destroy Bosnia’s hopes of building a major port, causing political issues.

I have been crossing those borthers for the last 18 years. The bridge is more than necessary for people that have nothing to do on the Bosnian territory. The Croatian bridge's "Clearance below" is 55m. The dimension you should look up for each vessel is "Air Draft" which specifies max. height of a ship above the sea. Even though there are some ships with the air draft of 55-65m, I don't think they will be targeting Neum anytime soon.

As a Slovenian I support the Bridge, it's a very good idea for Croatia. and I think the "Blocking Bosnia from open seas" thing is a non-factor, Croatia already has all control over that by simply not allowing a corridor to the open seas. It's the same thing in Slovenia, don't need any bridge between Italy and Croatia, Our access to the open seas is blocked simply by the territorial waters of Italy and Croatia meeting in front of our coast, and neither allowing a corridor between them for unrestricted access for Slovenia... Same thing for Bosnia, except there it's not Italy and Croatia cockblocking, it's just Croatia on 2 sides.

This bridge in not gonna “block” Bosnia and Herzegovina! This is absurd statement esp. since bridge design details, particularly bridge height (clearence) is agreed upon between Croatia and BiH after very long negotiations and this 55 meters has been specific request of the Bosnian experts alongside some other details! This hasn’t mentioned in this video but it is very easy to find!
Also it has to be known that only the worlds most largest ships wouldn’t be able to pass under this bridge although this kind of ships are very rare visitors of all Adriatic Sea although Croatia and Italy are huge tourist powers and with Slovenia also huge cargo ship routes!
This so called “issue” is fabricated by some of the Bosnian politicians as a means of showing muscles against Croatian neighbors for the sake of their domestic political agenda although all details of bridge construction have been agreed and signed between both countries long time ago! Also, during the past BiH used this matter as a leverage for the blackmailing Croatia for various concessions! Now they’re gonna be left without this instrument of political blackmails!

That's very sound and rational thinking! Bosnia and Herzegovina doesn't have real port in Neum at this moment but this bridge is projected high enough not to hinder possible sea traffic for at least very long future since building operable international cargo port in Neum would be massive undertaking hardly possible for any of the Ex-Yugoslavian countries and it is also very questionable would it be beneficial or destructive for the local Neum community that is relying on tourism. And BiH and Croatia have state agreements that are making Ploce seaport at disposition to the BiH cargo!
But even in case of building large port in Neum, 55 meters is high enough for many ships and there are much more congested international ports that do operate in circumstances of larger ships passing under somewhat lower bridges or in other unbeneficial circumstances like relatively shallow waters, small cargo surfaces etc...
Also, let us hope your beautiful country will join the EU someday and then there will be no hard borders between our two countries. 🇭🇷 👍 🇧🇦

It's really disappointing that even Futurology, which is overall a great channel, had to put a clickbaiting title. Even the video explains the opposite and directly negates the title. Not only is it annoying, but it's also sad.
Also, the video failed to mention a couple of important points:
    1. "Croatia blocking Bosnia's entrance to the sea" is a low quality propaganda of Bosniak politicians. They didn't bring up that statement because they want the best for the country. They did it in spite. They even tried to get to the International Court of Justice and the European Commission to block the construction of the bridge, but neither the ICJ nor the European Commission took them seriously, since, as already stated, it was just a low quality propaganda.
    2. A potential port at Neum is not even a concept. It's a myth, since it's impossible to build a port there. The sea in the Neum corridor is way too shallow for a port and the constructing an actual port there would take a century of digging, to make the sea deep enough for a port. Not a single country in the wider region has the money, labour nor power to do that.
    3. People of Neum would also strongly oppose the construction of that mythical port, since the city of Neum is the only city in Bosnia and Herzegovina, which lays on the Adriatic coast and attracts tourists. Building a port there would destroy the tourism of the city.
    4. The bridge complies with every law out there and it's big and high enough for any vessel in the Adriatic Sea, to pass under it. Even the largest container ships which go to the largest container port in the Adriatic Sea, the port of Trieste, can pass under it. So saying that the bridge "isn't high enough" is a false statement.
    5. The people of Neum Corridor don't oppose the construction of the bridge. They don't even care, since it won't change anything for them. Those who oppose the construction of the bridge are sitting in their comfy chairs in their offices in Sarajevo and have absolutely nothing to do with Neum.

Of course, the reason why Muslim politicians ( not Bosnian-Herzegovinian, because Serb and Croat politicians in BiH have nothing against) oppose the construction of the bridge is not because it would hinder the access of ships to the future port.
The real reasons why BiH Muslim politicians are against building the bridge are as follows:
    1. By building a bypass bridge, they will no longer be able to blackmail Croatia (blackmail by occasional closures and traffic restrictions through Neum - what they did in the past)
    2. By creating tensions, they want to influence their people and additionally politically radicalize and homogenize them against Croatia and Croats.
The construction of the port is absurd because of many reasons:
    1. Natural conditions do not allow the use of the port in a way that would be economically justified
    2. Building a port would create an environmental disaster
    3. The construction of the port requires huge funds (Railway, highway, large warehouses and terminals, etc., and BiH does not have that money, nor does anyone else want to invest billions of dollars in economically unjustified investment
    4. The local BiH population is against the construction of the port and support the construction of the bridge, because the bridge means great benefit to them, and the port means the destruction of their economy - especially tourism.
    5. BiH has given its consent to the construction of a bridge (with the only condition regarding the height, and which is accepted and the bridge of such height is being built)
    Etc., etc ...
It should be noted that Croatia also offered BiH other solutions, such as the construction of a corridor across the Neum, but this was vigorously rejected by Muslim politicians in BiH without any real reason.

This is an incredibly incorrect and just plain wrong video. Croatia did everything not to block the bay of Neum for large ships and in my humble opinion Croatia did too much because Neum cannot be turned into a harbor - the sea is too shallow there. Then for just being correct, the opposition to the bridge came only from the Bosnian Muslims. Bosnia and Herzegovina is not a state of Bosnian Muslims. It is a state of Serbs, Croats and Bosnian Muslims and only the Bosnian Muslims opposed the bridge. When Turkey built the bridges over Bosporus, they didn't ask anyone for permission, and that is one of the most important sea passages.
