    I appreciate hearing the sounds of your children in the background! Makes me feel like my kids are completely normal 😂 real life 😊

      Oh good! Yep, it's plenty loud here, but that's because kids are busy learning and growing!

    What a great video. An eye opening reminder that our kids are becoming like us. And it was nice for a change to hear the kids in the background playing/whining while school is going on. When people do voice overs on these parts and block out the "chaos" it LOOKS so idyllic and too picture perfect that we can't attain to. Even the "bored" look on the kids' faces (with some of them, and some of the time), and the distracted "look at what the little one is doing" while you are reading shows what real life is like - doing what we can, how we can, when we can. That life isn't perfect, even while striving for the best. The balance is what was conveyed for me. Thank you.

      So glad this encouraged you! Yep, it's pretty real around here...plenty of distractions, mess, bored (hopefully only bored sometimes), and definitely not picture perfect, but I'm so thankful for the opportunity to do something I believe in so much!

      I second this comment! Just found your channel even though we’ve been doing a relaxed AO for years like you. I love that your home is cozy and has a nice traditional/farmhouse vibe but isn’t magazine perfect or a blah grey box, your homeschool is lovely but not rigid or using a million ‘resources’, and your way of talking about it all is very genuine and comes from true lived experience. Please don’t try to make your videos look more polished or designed, the authenticity is heartening :)

    Your words were very convicting. Thank you for sharing your heart. My husband and I have 4 biological sons 25, 21,17,11, who have always been homeschooled. We also have adopted 4 young children from foster care in the last 6 years plus we have 2 foster littles currently. Our 2 oldest sons are married which leave 8 children in our home. Our 7 youngest are 11, 7, 5, 4, 3, 3, 9 months. Our family grew very quickly and this older mama who is set in her ways has struggled to find a good rhythm with all the littles sandwiched together so close in age. I needed this reminder to just slow down and take one day at a time. Its more important how I respond in the chaos than it is to accomplish every task on my list. ❤

      I'm glad to hear that! Thank you for taking the time to share that with me. It's so true..how we respond to what's going on around us makes all the difference! I'm glad this encouraged you!

    I appreciate these types of videos so so much! It is so good to hear other households sounding like the same as mine and I only have 5. You really help remind me to constantly be checking myself and if I’m demonstrating qualities I want to see in my children. Thank you!

      Oh good! I'm glad the noise of kids encouraged you, haha! It does get crazy in here sometimes, but that's what happens when kids are learning.
      I can relate to needing that reminder. When I make videos like this, it's also my way of reminding myself.

    Hi, I just recently found your channel and love your wisdom. Thank you for taking time to record these for us to learn from you. I wanted to ask, how do you find books with amazing lessons in them? I want to be able to read books with good moral stores for my children but I have no idea where to look.

    I have your Child’s Story Bible by Catherine Vos, but mine are Old Testament parts 1 and 2, and New Testament. These are a lovely complement to our Bible time and history portion 😊 Your videos are so very encouraging to me. There are a few UA-camrs I’d love to meet and talk with for days to glean from all their wisdom and experience. You are definitely one of those mamas. Thank you for sharing life-changing content, Sheri! ❤ from Jacksonville, Florida

    I just found your channel and I love it. I rarely comment but when I heard you were reading Little Britches, I had to. I love that series as a family read-aloud! We have done six of them so far. After that it’s harder for my youngest to stay engaged. It’s hard to pick a favorite from the first four books.

    Hi Sherri. I recently found your channel and really appreciate your encouragement. I’m currently in my 22nd year of homeschooling. I was wondering where you got the flip card/timeline you were going through during morning time. Thanks!

    • @OurLifeHomeschooling
      @OurLifeHomeschooling  Місяць тому

      Hi! Thanks for taking the time to comment! The cards are from the Veritas Press Self-Paced history program that we do. I don't talk about it a lot on my channel, but maybe I should. We've used it for 15 years of homeschooling and I love it. In the video I was reviewing the timeline cards which I try to do regularly.

    Hi Shari! Always love your videos 💜 Wondering how you get your kids to sit so nice and quietly during read-aloud time!? 😛

    • @OurLifeHomeschooling
      @OurLifeHomeschooling  Місяць тому +2

      Thank you so much!
      One thing I should clarify...during afternoon read aloud it is pretty quiet here, but when it's not afternoon read-aloud time, there's plenty of noise and bustle in the house and any reading I do, I often do in a separate room where it's quiet.
      We have been doing this for such a long time (15 years) it's become a norm for us. My little ones are either napping or having quiet time. If younger kids want to stay for the reading rather than go to their room for quiet time, they know they have to play or listen quietly.
      I hope that helps!

      Thx! It does! Up to what ages do you have kids go for quiet time? Also, I’m dying to know how you approach sleep with your babies/toddlers! “Sleep training”, nursing to sleep, etc…Our 6th baby just turned one and sleep has always been the most stressful thing for me!

    Where are the little ten sticks and blocks and cards from? Two of my kids are learning this right now and I think having physical manipulative would be helpful!
