Jack Gibbons is a true legend, he's one of the only pianist in the world who can play allegro Barbaro at the indicated tempo. Played live and no noticeable mistakes- this video deserves a lot more views!
only one?? really? wow.. check out his 1995 recording, that one has even better sound quality and it has literally no mistakes and the same tempo
Agamaz there are quite a few good Allegro Barbaro videos out there, but those videos are often done in multiple takes or they are doctored audio recordings. Physical endurance is one of the biggest issues for this piece, and because of this, doing a video in multiple takes completely takes away the endurance requirement.
I counted like 3 other pianists who can play this up to speed (under 2:40) in a one take video or live concert recording. Only other exceptions to this is Stephanie McCollum and Ronald Smith, who recorded Allegro Barbaro in a time where piano videos were costly to make.
@@gordonjang8461 Yes I think you are right, Jack Gibbons has astonishing speed and endurance. I think he seems a bit nervous here and maybe had not played it recently. I heard him at one of his Oxford concerts and he played it as an encore much more fluid and a bit faster I think.
@@p1anosteve That is interesting, though personally I have never seen him live. I believe this to be the best recording IMO and most accurate to what Alkan believed.
When music critics used the term ‘Barbaro’ in the 1800’s it referred to music that was fast and loud. The opposite of barbaric would be like quiet and slow music I am guessing. This recording captures the true meaning of that, especially the last section which is marked furiossissimo.
A legend indeed
Favoloso, originalissimo Alkan.
Grazie, M° Gibbons
I'm definitely in love with your interpretation of this etude!!!
Wow !!!
Every time I see this I am impressed!
Jack Gibbons is an absolute best! Nobody, nobody comes even close!,,y
i don't think there's anything harder than playing this piece this well
Le preux
man is this difficult....
This piece Is shit = musicality
@@feinbird9161 Apparently you are such an idiot that you do not know who the guy is, someone who is responding, this guy enters all the videos to say that most of the works are 💩, so blame your insults on him ....
@@feinbird9161 you should go to a specialist on reading comprehension, you should see the comments made by that user called Alkan in other videos before coming to criticize me
@@czeynerpianistproducercomp7155 Lmao I see you shit talking on a lot of other stuff and that everyone is "worse than Czerny".
@@afriendlymusician3829 habla en español el inglés no me agrada y menos la gente que lo habla, son muy estúpidos.
those octaves are going through the keys into the floor!
The whole performance is mind-blowing, but the little shrug he gives after standing just kills me.
Alkan non ha nulla da invidiare al Listz degli studi trascendentali. Onore grande al maestro Gibbon
l'esaltazione del pianoforte inteso come strumento a precussione! splendida performance!!
Very clear and powerful performance)
piano as percussion...
Piano is a percussion though
Wow!!! Truly, masterfully entertaining!!! Thanks for sharing your talent!!!
Holy Bejesus! He rattles it off like he just played Mary Has a Little Lamb. I don't know if this will force me to work harder or shut the lid on the piano and take up the bongos. Astonishing.
Difficile chiedere di piu', anima tecnica e cuore. 11/10
Jack i neeed to hear this liiiive
ASSOLUTAMENTE STUPENDO!!!!! MAGIC HANDS!!!!!!
oh wow, maybe even more impressive than his other recording on YT because it's live in concert.

O.O this is just amazing! How can you move your hands that fast without confusing which keys you have to press XD ?
Years and years of practice.
@@classicalmusic1175 he is a professional pianist so he plays all the time literally
@Yumeko Jabami Is the best but his comment is not confusing at all...
This peice freaking destroys my wrists
개인적으로 35-7 다음으로 좋아하는 곡인데.. 너무 좋습니다
Any advice on playing this without getting a hernia?
Practice.
Wear a jock strap.
slow slow practice
Play it slow. If you can play it slowly, it would be interesting.
relaxed hands
fearless. he completely attacks his piano
Thise hands are fast!
that right, great! 0 dislikes!
Soken bye, 9 dislikes
EDIT: I am NOT one of the dislikes.
Unbelievable ! Absolutely brilliant ! Congratulations Jack. How long was it before you could feel your fingers again ? Did they take long to cool down !
Ah, you never play like a frightened pianist, do you? Phenomenal as always.
He's got giant hands!
It's No. 5 out of 12 etudes (in all the major keys, Op. 35). Most of the others aren't nearly as barbaric as this etude, although this etude is written to sound barbaric, hence the title... Listen through the whole set when you get a chance, played by McCallum. :)
O_O
You can do it . . . and better still.

hey where did that sound come from? wasn't he just banging the keys? :O
lol.amazing. :DD
SayumiPanda:3 the sounds come from the piano. Every note makes a different sound lol
Looks like on totentanz
certo che potevano anche accordare il pianoforte :)
I think playing this on a midi keyboard will break it😅
lydian mode brought me here
????? what the hell should this be ??
Martin Martinez a piano piece
@@stEv3900 a very beautiful and difficult one as well.
Thats an etude bro
An etude meant to build up your endurance.
