My first guess is no. Making charcoal is all about getting rid of the moisture. You don’t see “wet” charcoal straight out of the barrel. Any moisture left in would prevent the char from absorbing nutrients which to me is the whole purpose of biochar. That’s my theory but no clue if it’s correct. I’m going to remember your efforts next time I am tempted to throw that green piece in the fire. As always good video and thanks.
I've always wondered this, have a heap of turentine on my place too, that's no good for fire wood. Wonder if it would do better inside a closed barrel style, with the fire outside

If I leave it out in the rain and elements about 12 months if I bring them inside out of the elements a lot longer. Getting drums is not a big problem around here. John
If you had a way to cut the wood i up smaller. It probably would do better, Even dry large pieces take longer to make char. Saw your last Bio crusher video was 4 months ago. How is it coming? I see you are just cutting the end out of the barrels. Does that make better char. Than cutting the barrel down the side?
Yes cutting the wood smaller would help. Given that I have almost unlimited dry old wood its probably better to wait until its dry. I only did the experiment because someone asked about it and I was sure I would get the outcome I did. Yes the larger the wood the slower the process If I had a faster wood splitter I would reduce the size of the larger bits. The biochar crusher is coming along I have the centre rotor finished the blades made the screen on the engine sorted getting closer. I have a couple of videos on the upright drum method. It can be quicker with long wood I was able to get it to self feed somewhat. The product is the same. The process takes a bit more managing. The main thing is its much quicker and you can get a full drum in one burn. John

I think an oven style TLUD type would be better but I think you would need dry wood in the outside chamber. John

Use it to add to garden soil or pasture to increase carbon and micro-organisms in the soil. John

right, you'll end up with unfinished stuff. i only did this a couple of times, it's fun.
