Thanks for the video CarAudio. Great to see Sony adding HDMI to the 8000-line. It is a very good and clean looking head unit with probably the best looking UI. In my opinion, it still needs a better screen and a wireless carplay option to seriously make it competitive. The glare on it when driving under the sun is brutal. Wired carplay has a reputation for causing technical trouble.
@@pankajbhardwaj8087 model please ?sir I bought sony xav ax 8100 from Flipkart and I didn't see any weblink option in it..and the usb is not connected after every car off on
I can’t speak for the sound quality of this unit but I installed an AX-5600 model and while the menu features are the same I would never say that the Multimedia features outweigh the sound quality because mine sounds fantastic. I do however have a factory amp and I have upgraded to Infinity speakers.
If you connect a Samsung phone supporting dex mode, using type c to hdmi cable, then entire screen becomes a desktop and samsung phone becomes a TouchPad. Amazing experience.
I have this unit installed and i have the hdmi cable from apple and when i connect my phone all it shows is black screen but i can hear audio. Any ideas??
Thanks for the awesome write up and video here. Really helped me decide on it. I was going back and forth between an android HU and this. Still wish it had wireless car play. Have a few questions if you have the time to help. 1 - Any luck with any of the wireless carplay adapters on the market? C2play,etc...? 2 - If playing video/audio through the HDMI connection and I have an iphone connected through Carplay or via Bluetooth, will it completely mute the audio or will it pause or "duck" the HDMI audio so you can hear audio from the phone that's connected? My use case would be if my kids are watching a movie and I have GPS running on my phone I'd still like to hear audio prompts for directions. If not, I'll just change the audio output on the phone I guess. I know i could just connect it to HDMI but in my use case and how my phone is mounted, it wouldn't be easily possible for my setup. Thank you for your help and time!
I wish I could help ya with #1 but I haven’t tried any wireless CarPlay adapters worth mentioning. I did test the hdmi/nav audio and while playing video via the HDMI, navigation audio prompts worked but it will trump the audio of the video that’s playing.
Yes. All video related features and some advanced settings require the parking brake to be on. However if you’re in a state where it’s legal, you can always wire around this so that it’s accessible at all times.
There's two options for screen mirroring: 1) Use an HDMI adapter for your phone - checkout the hdmi adapter I used for my iphone in my full writeup: www.caraudionow.com/sony-xav-ax8100-review-feature-demo/. This doesn't require an app and will play video. 2) You can use the WebLink app - download WebLink from the appstore and connect your phone via USB. When you open up the app you'll have the option to 'cast' the screen. This will not play video on the screen though.
The screen is not even HD it looks glary come on it's 2021 and it still don't have wireless Android auto and Apple carplay.Atto it's half the price and has way more features and it's HD.
Apologize for the video/lighting quality. The screen looks a little different on camera than it does in person due to lighting, angle and video quality. In person it doesn't look faded. In the article link in the description you can get a little better sense of what it looks like with some of the images I took.
Just purchased one of these for my truck. Can’t wait to get it installed. Thanks for sharing!

I wish they had improved the screen over the AC8000

You showed the USB function but did not show where the USB port is located.
Ive had one for a year and a half and they've only had one firmware update ever since.
Thanks 🙏 for all the info on the head unit god bless u ur family and busniess
Great video. Will be ordering this week.
Can I listen radio or BT music and Android auto navigation in the same time?
I have Samsung S23, hook up HDMI connector the screen display it does not support Samsung Dex.

You missed the most important sound feature, adjusting the media one.

Can you use a apple iPod on this
When sony update there stereo for low latency Bluetooth and the new wireless Carplay, android auto
I can't wait for the new Sony to be released in Nov. of 21 I'll be replacing my Pioneer dmh-wt8600nex with it
We’re hoping to get one before the release so stay tuned for a review of it.
Has it been released yet? Only thing keeping me from buying the sony unit is the bad screen quality
@@locogtr6475 not yet and after watching some of the early release videos I'm not so sure I'm still interested in it either anymore.
@@locogtr6475 I actually just got an email stating that as of today its been released
What do you have your hard drive set too. Im on a Mac and the formatted drive nots getting read.
We used a thumb drive for the usb. Things like iPhones and computers don’t typically work as usb drives for these units.
the screen belongs to 2005!
I just got this so you need a actual usb drive to change wall paper you cant plug in USB to your phone and do this
Correct. You can’t just plug in your phone for the wallpaper feature.
Does it have to be on park to do this?
Yes. All video related features and some advanced settings require the parking brake to be on. However if you’re in a state where it’s legal, you can always wire around this so that it’s accessible at all times.
How do you change the time on this unit?
It’s in the general settings.
What app do you use for screen mirroring your phone

Why the UI is so primitive and rudimental that's a complete turn off.
It's the same screen as 8100 so resistive ..
Correct, it's a resistive like the AX8000 which is in-part why the quality might not look as high as a capacitive would
The screen is not even HD it looks glary come on it's 2021 and it still don't have wireless Android auto and Apple carplay.Atto it's half the price and has way more features and it's HD.
