Dori Settles, a native of southeastern Wisconsin, artistic journey began while she was a dedicated stay-at-home mom. With a strong desire to be environmentally friendly, she explored the world of fiber arts, using materials she found at thrift stores to create unique and creative pieces. As a fiber artist, Dori actively participated in numerous group exhibitions, with her remarkable piece, "Bioluminescent Forest," now proudly displayed in the permanent art collection of the Beatrice Public Library in Nebraska.
Settles found herself on a creative journey that involved crafting shoes from glass. Throughout 2021, she developed a process rooted in lost-wax casting and chose the pâte de verre technique. Unlike conventional glass casting methods, this approach grants Settles greater control and flexibility, resulting in delicate, hollow sculptures rather than hefty, solid forms. I am excited to share the work of an artist new to our Habatat Family and look forward to seeing you in Florida at the Glass Art Fair.
