Thank you for recognizing it's value in whatever search you were on. I'd love to do an overall reaction to season 1 and the show so far if I could find the time. In quick summation though, I can say that the intro sequence is still by far the best thing about the show. The would have done well to continue to walk in whatever spirit they were in when creating the intro for the rest of the content. They that break a thing to tell us what it is have left the path of wisdom...
Thanks - after watching the entire season - I found the intro to be the best part of the show overall. Perhaps at some point I will mount the dead horse and review season 1.
Thank you for this measured, thoughtful, and insightful analysis of not only the reception of the title sequence, but a superb breakdown of the meaning behind it. I would actually appreciate your slightly more spoilery breakdown of the shapes being created.
Fascinating analysis. Although, the visuals and art are stunning in the series, you know, it feels like there's still something missing from the show. Anyway, that's just what I think. Thanks for sharing your perspective on all of this!
Thanks Bumblebee... Now that we're long past the first season and about to embark on season two - I can say in retrospect that I really only appreciated the opening sequence, and as you say some of the art & visuals. There is much missing from the show; and much added that is painful. Once could say that the show writers own themes of discord were woven into the great song Tolkien had sung for us, corrupting it. I had thought about doing more analysis - but others have done well with this. I greatly disliked the deep changes to essential themes of Tolkien's works in the Rings of Power. I will watch season 2 - but at this point - I am only expecting to enjoy some of the visuals & the music.
Thanks DMae! I feel bad for those not giving it a chance! As I alluded to in the video - I think there is a foul spirit of mockery hovering over the land. I'm hoping the best for the show - and the intro gives me hope. We shall see! 50 episodes is a LOOOOONG Journey!
Thank you Michael! You were the one who alerted me to it that night And I totally forgot about it until I re-watched it when it came out on Prime. It was like having a flashback to when you mentioned it! I dont think I was in the theater during the opening credits or was distracted by conversation. I am giving you credit in the video description.
Thanks Cersei! I'm considering another video... Right now I have video-editing-fatigue from all the projects of the last month lol. Perhaps after the next episode or two - and I'll see what others have found first.
Thank you Jaclyn! Hoping the other vids and music on the channel inspires you! If you are unfamiliar with the music , all of it can be previewed here as well: www.MinstrelSongs.com
Amazing! I didn't know about sand shapes from vibrations but- I just drove 5 hours for a weekend getaway and listened to the audio book of Silmarillion all the way. I LOVE the Ainulindulie and thank you for making this intro make sense! I hadn't given any thought to it being good or bad.
Hail friends - for a really interesting video on the relation between sound, design and creation - check out this one! ua-cam.com/video/OLNFrxgMJ6E/v-deo.html
I saw the 9 rings in the intro and almost pissed myself. I knew then that the intro holds some secrets. "3 rings for the elven kings under the sky. 3 for the dwarven lord's in their halls of stone. 9 for mortal men doomed to die."
Haha! I think a lot of people will be too impatient with the video to make it to the easter egg! Theres more I see! I'm so glad you like it. I meant to message you this morning because during the making of the video I was actually re-reading your paper and the thought about Job came to mind. The Judeo-Christian creation account is dispersed through various books of the bible, so music as part of the Jud.Chr. creation account is often overlooked as its not in the opening verses Genesis. There are more allusions to music in creation in other verses as well - I think enough for it to be considered as one of the main creation accounts that does include music. Perhaps a new footnote in your paper? 😉
I think part of the issue is how the show has been handled in the media. Advertising isn't about just saying "what a great show!" Or "Please watch our great show" it has to be about this with us or against us mentality. Too much is said about the actors and not enough about the escapism they provide. I've watched the show and I will continue to watch it, unfortunately I feel that the writing as of now is lacking. Arondir could be a cool character but he is wooden and his apparent relationship with Bronwyn seems stiff. I really like the relationship between Durin and Disa, they have good chemistry and as Dwarves are my favorite fantasy race it's always great to see more. I have stopped looking at this as Lord of the Rings there is too much added, changed, and condensed but that doesn't meen it will fail at being a decent fantasy adventure.
Indeed Montana - I agree with much of what you noted. Lets see where this goes! I wrote an overall review of my likes/dislikes on my blog. There are also reflections on the premiere event in NYC which we attended. My review notes are towards the bottom of the page. Thanks for your thoughts Jevvy! Indeed we shall see. I am trying to remain hopeful and so far there are enough things for me to like to give it an overall positive rating. I predict that the Numenor story thread will be much more interesting for fans than the other story threads we have initiated so far.
I loved the show, the only reason people hate on it is because of the pacing. But like it's the first season like seriously, if it had action after action Every episode the pacing would be terrible and lost of develop
I desperately want to be on board with the views expressed here in this video. However I am forced to face the very disappointing truth. The show doesn’t resemble the content of the appendices. And that is a real worry for the next 48 hours of content.
Hi Marvinator! Thanks for your thoughts. I think we all have similar concerns at various levels - although resemblance is in the eye of the beholder indeed. Check out the "Rings & Realms" series on UA-cam if you haven't already - they do a great job of discussing what adaptation is and how it can be a tricky business with a story beloved by millions. Either way, despite the worry - I think it will be exciting to see what those next 48 hours bring!
Skip to about minute 22:00 for a hidden surprise coming...
8 Valar and Eru Iluvatar. No 9 rings.
Thank you for this. This is what I was looking for.

James and I just watched this ... fascinating.. well done John!

@@LonelyMountainBand We're in the same boat xD
Painful ignorance. Wow. How appropriate. Wonderful analysis

I am thrilled that you see it, too! It is perfect!!

I searched for this exact thing. You're the only one to cover it so far. Thankfully, so I don't have to.
I wish you did more of each shot by shot of musical opening and what it relates to. Great work but we need more!
Thanks Cersei! I'm considering another video... Right now I have video-editing-fatigue from all the projects of the last month lol. Perhaps after the next episode or two - and I'll see what others have found first.
@@LonelyMountainBand Cool, looking forward to it
Thank you for this! I think this is a good way to show us the Ainulindalë without bumping into IP issues.

Thanks Linda! Role of the Bard fulfilled! Lore bonus score increases by +2
Thank you for this insight

So fascinating! Ignore the critics! Grievance is a bad habit.

good job man

I love the opening! How in the world did they do that? I’m on here to find out. How can anyone not like it? I think it’s beautiful.
I liked the intro, I just didn't like the story so far. We'll see how it goes in the long run
