    Love it!
    My forecast (discussion welcome!):
    IFT3 in January plus or minus a few weeks. For the most part, existing hardware is adequate for success through touch down of both stages. Tweak the separation program a bit so the booster can relight and attempt to touch down. Probably vacuum engines a few seconds ahead of sea level engines. Possibly deploy Starlink 2.0 during coasting phase, despite them being doomed to reenter. (Test the PEZ dispenser.)
    Newer boosters will be retrofitted with plumbing that can withstand the lurch and flip.
    Lots of tile replacements, especially along weld lines, and some adjustments to how they are applied.
    Ship QD will see moderate improvements and testing.

      Honestly i'll be happy if it happens in early March. I was optimistic for both launches and they happened months later than expected. I know there should be less problems here but they have gained so much data to innovate and improve for flight 3. They really need to nail the boostback and ship needs to survive the orbit burn so they should take their time to do what they can for that. I'm guessing we'll get a 33 engine static fire and wdr in January or early February and launch in march because of extra things to fix and regularory approval

      @@Milardikan I've been thinking more and more that they plan to build a new launch tower in time for IFT7, so 3-4 months between launches is starting to feel optimistic. Why: The hint about the existing starships being the last of the current version, with the next version set to be longer, means the existing tower will be unable to stack the next version. Add the arrival of parts for a new tower and it becomes clear. Optimistically, they could place a new tower adjacent to the existing stand and steel plate. Pessimistically, they need a second set of all that. Feels like a fight brewing with Fish and Wildlife.

      @@brian554xx I don't think it's because of the tower, but you have the right mindset - SpaceX innovation. I believe that's the main thing slowing launches down, but that's ultimately a great thing. They are changing things FAST. So fast it halts their launches. They could be launching much faster, and get the launch cadence way up and just make more of V1 starships with tiny changes, but this is SpaceX. They want the most optimal, greatest, most efficient launch system and they can't do that without making huge changes that affect everything as soon as they identify what they can change.I suppose that's the right path for them to take, but for us it will feel slower because we won't see rapid changes in the launch cadence.
      Also about the tower, I'm pretty sure they will just expand on the current one if it's necessary to stack the next gen starships. And I don't think building a tower at the same exact launch pad would make sense haha, it's best to have two of both but I see where you were going with that, i'm not sure how hard it is to build another Stage 0 compared to a tower so take my opinion with a grain of salt. They do need more towers and pads at starbase anyway so hopefully that's that.

    This launch was definitely an advance in the program. but, somewhere in the advancements, these explosions are going to have to stop! Every single vehicle in the Starship troop has exploded whether in flight or on the ground. I have some experience in metal fabrication and I worry that all of the welding on this vehicle will have to be replaced by computer imprinting as some stage. Welds are like chains, it only takes one failure to ruin the whole structure, and with the rather thin walls of the starship and the many welds, it seems to me that they are just waiting to fail at some stage, because of the many varied stresses put upon the vehicle at the various stages of liftoff and flight. I hope that they have a whole department working on this factor, since the STARSHIP is well worth seeing onto reliable successes.

      IFT 1 ended because SpaceX pressed the FTS button. Even then it took ages to break up, continued barrel rolling for ages. IFT 2 ended with both stages because of AFTS. That's nothing to do with the welds.

    • @TheBestOfSweden
      @TheBestOfSweden 9 місяців тому +2

      They explode because of FTS, not welds

      So Far, but this has not been tested in extreme, yet. Like on to the moon and to Mars. The SpaceX system is of a single layer between extreme cold and pressure to either heated air in the atmosphere or cold vacuum of space. And it is not a static environment that it works in either. A lot of stresses, vertical, lateral and shaking goes on. A weld is only as strong as its weakest point, just like a chain. And with the enormous variety and length of the welded surfaces on one of those giant space vehicles, the chance of even a minor weakened spot is virtually guaranteed. With no apparent backup to the welds, I fear for the day when one of them gives out. This could be a problem with the smaller vehicle, also, but they get regular maintenance between flights, something that can not be as inclusive while on an extended flight in space. I just hope that they are not as ignorant as you as to these challenges, and they probably aren't. I am well aware of what is going on now, since I listen to a variety of real experts in these matters. And I have noted that in the developmental stages, that the welds are significantly being reduce in number, probably due to the very concerns I also have. I am a fervent fan of SpaceX, and always hope for the best of them.@@TheBestOfSweden

      “Every single vehicle in the starship troop has exploded”. Did you forget about starhopper, sn5, sn6, and sn15?

    • @jamesdylandean614
      @jamesdylandean614 9 місяців тому

      No, but none of them went on an extended trips in Space, either. Why do you keep answering me while your scientific ignorance is so apparent? Just rest easy in your perfectly safe world and let the thinkers live in their realistic one. Just remember all of this in case of a horrible outcome, or better yet, if SpaceX adjusts to these risks.@@BCR81
