- What's up hobby friends, I am back this week with a pretty fun video about rescuing armies off of eBay! There has always been a lot of value in being able to find just the right deals on eBay and today we're gonna go through the best ways I've found to get entire armies ON THE CHEAP! I'm also going to take an army I recently acquired using this method and begin the process of rescuing it! Super exciting, I'm excited, you're excited, let's do this thing!

Some alright tracks this week, although I think I pretty much talked over everything, so hopefully we can fix that for next time! Particularly the song Detergent by Dylan Sitts needed to have a little more room to breathe. It's a rad track and I like to use it whenever I can.

Awesome timing on this video, I just picked up a 3000 point imperial fist first born army for 200$ Canadian. My ultrasonic cleaner has been going non stop for close to 3 days now 🤣 amazing work as always, and great tips! Alot of what I purchase are used miniatures and your methods and advice have been immensely useful in turning them into usable miniatures again. Keep it up my dude!!
That’s amazing, great find!!
Bet that cleaner was borderline on fire after that.
Nice find
wow you got an amazing deal dude
Love the practical tips and the honest results of the trial phase
There's an acrylic paint stripper avilable in Poland for plastic models from WA-MOD company. It literally strips the paint out in matter of minutes leaving bare plastic intact. It was a game changer for me in refurbishing second hand models to pre-painting state.
Hey, could You give name of that product?
@@JuloFreeq it's called simply 'zmywacz do farb akrylowych' (eng. Acrylic paint remover).
does it ONLY strip off acrylic paints?
@@bidensniffsithuntersmokesi9413 I've tried it on mini painted with oil and it came off also, just longer soaking and more scrubbing
@@Reverieru so water based paints should be a breeze. I'm a bit of a noob. forgive me!
I bought 4000+ points of orks from a friend for 200$. They were just models he knew he was never going to get to, and he knew how much I love orks. I have been slowly getting them painted, and I have to say that it has been a great experience. It feels really good to be finishing models that would otherwise been confined to bins in someone's storage area. And my friend gets to see me bring his old army to life! :) Love the video and can't wait to see what you come up with!
As a novice painter, I love watching you work to transform these minis. You're crushing it, dude!
I have no idea what I'm watching, but I like it.
Great choice! I'm working on a Nighthaunt army my self. Your videos are very inspiring and a great source of information!
I don't paint or play warhammer but I am captivated by the guys voice and presentation. I recon I have watch his whole back catalogue
This is awesome! looking forward to part 2. Definitely hope we can see some more army restorations like this.
The model test period is often very exciting and lets you be very creative! If you do it just right, that intense batch painting that comes after is made so much easier.
welcome back, hope you feel better
or got better, can't remeber wich is the right one.
Both, and thank you :)
Man, that glow-up versus how they arrived to you is wild! Nice nice, excited to see the whole army come together :)
100% agree it's so satisfying. Taking players lost projects and creating something awesome is grand warhammer based experience. My entire Eldar is almost entirely 2nd hand
When you hit Like after 20 seconds of the 14 min video. PS that brown enamel trick for bone is great!
When you read about someone hitting like after 20 seconds of the 14 min video.
Heh, thanks man. That brown enamel is such a gold mine, it’s been my goto for probably far too long at this point, for anything that just needs to be dirty or bone colored, or whatever it is.
11:55 "... in my case, I'm hoping to finish the army in about... five hours." 😲 Blimey!
I may have bit off more than I can chew but that’s how much time I have to actually do it in lol. Whatever happens happens!!!
@@eBayMiniatureRescues I'm confident you'll at least take a big bite out of the army. 👍👍👍👍
The red with that brown enamel wash over it looks fabulous! Another fun and informative video done in your inimitable relaxed and chill manner, and I enjoyed it a lot. Keep up the good work, Casey!
Great work indeed
Don't play Warhammer or paint models and this was still an awesome video. Great content
As I play Ossiarch bonereapers I recommend to make the army stronger a mortisian bone shaper
Just a tip: Before I put minis in my ultrasonic cleaner i let them sit for an hour in warm sodium hydrocside(basic draino). This way I don't have to brush them afterwards almost at all and glue is also removed very easily.
I love this concept! Nice vid
Great vid, can't wait to see the whole army next week. I've been looking forward to you tackling this one.
Didnt see it until i was almost done. Story of my life always the paw behind the shield... skaven!!
Hahah, for real always those skaven hands!
Amazing, stunning videos, tipps and everything from entertaining and funny to knowledge and that little bit of extra! you really earned my sub and im looking forward for the 5 hour timeframe you gave yourself for the army.
Great video and great tips. It's important to know when you have done enough.
I love the term "middle-of-the-road Bone Guys".
wow that an amazing transformation
Excellent! I'm looking forward to seeing the whole army!!
painting trial idea
no primer coat
no black
do highlight in something bright or neon, not white
white just for limited mixing with color
pick 2 random colors: one neutral, one dark
try have fun
Love the video brought back many college memories.
Really great vid. Love the colour scheme you settled on!
I would love to see more videos about your Ebay Process...
Using Isopropyl Alcohol is also a great and fast way to remove paint easily.
It's nice to see my favorite AoS army get some restoration love! If you're thinking of expanding your army to be competitive-ish you really need 2 of the catapults, at least one more unit of Necropolis Stalkers, what I refer to as Bone Pope (Soulmason), either Arch Kavalos Zantdos or Liege Kavalos, and a unit or two of Kavalos Deathriders.
I tend to spray models with easy off oven cleaner and then after about 15 minutes I scrub. If the paint is super heavy it might take 2 whacks. I've only used it on GW plastic and metal however.
Home alone, just watched a horror movie, watching this in my bed on my phone to calm down a bit. 11:36 someone goes "shush" in my ear. 😨
Awesome video as usual. Thanks for sharing!
Didn't you just make a video titled "drowning in minis", dude what are you doing buying another army?
Ensuring content for the "rescue miniatures" part of the channel.
Lol, this was part of that pile for sure. I’m actually trying not to buy more right now. I have so many projects for the channel it’s kinda dumb…
Can't leave bargains when you find them
I wonder if the seller is watching.
Never know…it’s happened before. I though I was at least nice about it 😆
@@eBayMiniatureRescues Oh your here. may I ask you the best way to strip plastic models without too much investment?
@@theinquisitionsparrot6749 hmm, in all honesty you can get great results with an old pickle jar, LAs Totally Awesome, and a little bit of time. $3 investment to start and you’ll get great results!
@@eBayMiniatureRescues How do you know I live in LA?
The winged bone reaper things would make a perfect Night Lord's Demon Prince conversion😎
Huzzah,, lots of knowledge learned. Thank you thank you
Funny that´s the same ultrasonic cleaner I used at work as a dental technician about 20 years ago
can't wait to see your nagash completed
LA's Totally Awesome is great for stripping minis. In case you haven't seen that stuff. Soak the minis overnight and the paint comes right off.
Great video, enjoyed the music in it
I see that Warmaster on the Ebay searches.
Try methylated spirits for your paint stripper. It would have removed it all, including the primary, in that time. And it doesn't damage plastic or metal. Best thing to use for stripping minituers.
Also flammable
Gasoline also works, but you have to be careful not to smoke around it or have anything nearby that makes sparks.
Green stuff world paint remover is better and will remove all paint from plastic resin and metal miniatures
the one armed guy's name is steve and hes the army's mascott
I do think the scheme you decided on in the end looks awesome, brownish enamel with red shields is maybe a bit of an obvious choice, but it's obvious because it fits well!
For an army like this, I would probably consider doing the base coat in a slightly warmer white (Wraithbone for Citadel paints), although in your case the enamel already does much of that anyway. I'd also probably rely a lot on drybrushing, which is both quick, and fits the kind of dusty old undead theme well; altho I admittedly pretty much only paint in Citadel/heavy metal style.
this is a good one keep it up buddy
Im going to be honest here I preferred the teal, maybe its cause im a former Tomb Kings player from Warhammer Fantasy battles but it just looks way more impressive. Not to say what you have done isnt impressive but I still prefer the teal. In saying that pretty awesome save.
You can still use the teal the way I would; if I have two of the same unit I put red accents on the first and blue on the second and green if there's a third.
for recovery work om wh40k stuff I have been using a UK product called D ettol, pineoil . not supermarkets stuff as that will not work. it will strip to plastic and you will need to wash off the old pine oil 3 times . This is old school stuff as these nwere products seem to be much better. pine oil will remove enamels too should you come across it.
works better if the previous job was undercoated with acrylic spray .
btw folks its nasty stuff so protection is mandatory !
hope this helps
Here comes Brother Paint with extra arcylic plating.
You're using Akina boy soundtracks right? Didn't think I find anyone else except the boys themselves using it. Pretty cool of you. I'll subscribe just for that.
Mortek Crawlers. Ideally two of them. and gothizzars since the new monster rules are pretty good!
I love these necrons!
Thanks. I got so many salvaged kits to get through.
Try to grab Bits and leftovers from sprues and print the main stuff with a resin-3D-printer: instant bargain.
It's a good video this mate. Thank you for sharing your process.
Hey, tech question please.
What have you found to be the best bath temps?
Best bath times?
and finally, you mentioned degreaser. Is this dish soap or engine degreaser or something harsher still?
Loving your videos by the way, i really should be working right now but im far too busy watching your channel. haha.
Unstopabble force?
Fodder, artillery and fire/life magic. Very meta.
Cool channel
Please remember to like and comment to appease the almighty algorithm 😁👍🏼❤️
great video, nice seeing the steps and i appreciate the suggestion of doing some test runs to decide a winner. thanks for the video
thanks for the tips dude, im never quite sure what to look for/how to look on ebay
The king has returned 🎉
I’ve been thinking about getting into AoS, might have to do some eBay hunting.
you can have my set
Seen as though teal armour is out the question unfortunately maybe you could make the eye colour teal to stand out in contrast to the red armour. Anyways nice vid and look forward to seeing them finished
watching you always makes me feel lazy lol better get back to work :D great work Casey you rock bud
Nice save with the bone reapers. They start to get alivelifeless.
Amazing
I rescued a tu army. It was in rough shae
I got an awesome job lot off of ebay one time. Got a load of 2nd edition lead/pewter stuff including a complete second edition and a metal chaos dreadnought. This was about three or four years ago though. What do you use to get the paint off? I use that alcohol based one, isopropyl or something. You can get like a gallon for about a fiver it melts resin though. Cheers for the vid
I always wonder: You have such wholesome content and good explanations but what's with the video titles? Why call them trash armies? Do you ever think about the people you are talking about? Imagine selling your army and some guy on youtube trashes you for it. Good job. You successfully have driven someone out of the hobby.
i wonder if a ziplock with a cold pack or somethign just tossed in with the models would help keep the temperature stable?
Probably, although it seems like a little heat really helps get that paint off. Ironically I recently got this sonic cleaner because it had a temperature control, but it gets hot anyways lol.
@@eBayMiniatureRescues true, is that the new one or still the one you need to let cool off? i forgot you said you were gettin a new one lol
i wonder if theres a trick there somewhere tho, maybe a col pac just on the lid or somethign hey
finishing an army in 5 hours n theres me taking 15 hours to paint 1 ork no wonder i got so much grey plastic sat in boxes
What did you use in the ultrasonic cleaner? I've yet to find a decent product.
Poor guy selling his beloved army to pay his rent.. This guy, Buying trash armies on eBay lolololol.
Did you say "teal"?
What is this, an episode of Paint Bravely the Podcast?!? 😆
😂 gotta get it in there, we forgot last episode!
First thing I would do is ask what kind of primer was used on the models - if anything but an acrylic primer is confirmed, then forget even getting it, unless you know how to safely strip enamel primers without melting the plastic…
dettol or pine oil works - be careful with it though
I have an army I need to sell. 3x Dark Imperium boxes and some tanks.
Starts at 6:00
I don't get how you have such low listings, I did the same thing as shown and the average costs I see aren't even close!
they didn't look "throw it in the closet and never remember" at first, not good but not awful, they do look really good now though
I love the video and the process of saving an entire army! IF I can give a piece of constructive criticism? The paint scheme is too much like your Death Guard army. We've already seen you paint a hundred models white, smother them with brown oil, and wipe it all off. The DG looked great, but I am not feeling it on these guys. Go back to the first test model when it was clean white with teal armor, it looked fantastic! You should push your art with something different. Show us clean bones.
whats the name of the song right at the end?
Hi mate,
Can you help me - I'm a big fan of your content and have used your techniques to revitalise some of porely painted models in my collection that I've accumulated over the years.
The issue I have is that after using my Ultrasonic cleaner for a couple cycles the unit breaks down - a quick google search does not help me know how to fix it or how to manage the heat generated so that it doesn't break again.
I'm currently on my second unit and want some tips on a) Fixing the unit or b) using the unit in a way that won't burn it out.
Any help you can give would be appreciated.
Great content as usual mate, what was the teal you used on the test model? 😲
Terraform turquoise contrast, then I layered over with Jade from pro acryl, you could really just go with the Jade, it’s a very good paint.
@@eBayMiniatureRescues thanks mate
Hi, thanks for the video, it's very interesting and your work is awesome! I have a question, could you tell me the name of the brown ink you use? I think the finish is great, but I have no idea where to get an ink that looks like that.
you can safe mine from being butchered :D ordered my first ones and I'm fucking scarred to paint them :D
5:38 The army is good and will win games ;). Look for a Gothard Harvester, Bone Shaper, and a Soul Mason. Nagash can be nasty in Bonereapers because he can put mystic shield on everyone.
i gota bunch of old war hammer =\ some just have a under coat tho lol
How would you recommend getting into this game? I have zero experience playing the game and definitely don't know the rules.. I've watched a bunch of people play the game via youtube and love miniatures. The whole atmosphere is amazing and would love to get into the game. Problem is I just don't know where to start and don't know anyone who plays. I don't want to dump a ton of money into the game and end up hating the faction I chose.
I do like the space marines the most.
When the regulations allow it: Visit a games workshop near you. The people there are usually super friendly and helpful and normally you can play some test rounds with painted models there.
There are also regular events, from weekly meetings of hobbyists to bigger stuff once in a while.
I don't know how it is with Corona still around so maybe reach out and ask.
Sorry to bother with a question I'm sure you gotten plenty already. Could you go over your process of stripping paint and what products do you find work the best? Ultrasonic cleaner? Mineral Spirits? The aspect of stripping paint has been somewhat of a barrier when it comes to buying pre-owned models. Your results speak for themselves so I was just curious. Thanks!!
I use green stuff world paint remover works quickly and takes all paint off resin plastic and metal models may need to re glue them as glue separates if you leave them in 2 long can re use paint remover quite a few times
Any tips on stripping models without a sonic cleaner?
6:11
It’s a waiting game at that point, let the models sit in a closed bucket or jar of cleaning solution and scrub it off every few days until you are happy. 97% and higher isopropyl alcohol is also a good solution, it works a lot faster too.
@@eBayMiniatureRescues Thank you!
Question i know you have mentioned it before, but what does the mix you are using to strip the miniatures of paint in your ultrasonic cleaner consist off?
And how long do you let them sit in the ultrasonic cleaner?
Straight LA's Totally Awesome cleaner. Available for $1 a bottle at Dollar Tree.
LA's totally awesome cleaner, it works ludicrously well. Just make sure you change it out every so often! 😅
As others have said, LAs Totally Awesome, it’s pretty great 👍
@@eBayMiniatureRescues Is it just used as it is or is it diluted in anyway?
Why not just 3d print?
What means "lot" in the searchname? Lot how the Word? Or is it an synonyme? Thx!
Lot in a sale like this refers to an undifferentiated group consisting of many different things. I could sell the army unit by unit, or I could sell “the lot” and spend less time having to catalogue everything and list it separately.
@@hoopder thx!
