  • Peoples State Forest | Beautiful Unknown Hike in Connecticut
Richard and I have been trying our best to stay positive during this crazy time. It's easy to get bogged down by the constant negative news and being trapped in a home without work doesn't make it any better. Luckily for us, nature has always been a positive, even meditative, place for us. It's free, which is great since we lost our income for the time being, and usually, there are not many people there.
We sought out to find hikes that are accessible for many and this hike was one of them. Although we believe that social distancing is key to tackling this virus, it is also healthy to get outdoors and breathe in the fresh air.
Keep in mind that if local organizations have asked you to stay off the trails, obey their wishes. Also if you find that there are way more cars in the parking lot than usual, maybe find another trail. Lots of people are having the same great idea to get into nature so use common sense and keep your distance from others.
All that being said, People's State Forest was an amazing mid-afternoon hike. There were spectacular views of the valley and the Farmington River. It was early spring when we hiked this, so just imagine how incredible the New England foliage would be in Autumn.
If you are in Western Massachusetts or Connecticut, we highly suggest checking out this not well-known trail system.

We've been taking this crazy time to explore smaller hikes in our area since we can't travel. It's been so cool to just take a break from the world and surround ourselves with nature. Hopefully going forward we'll still have the chance to do this during this pandemic. Has your county closed trails? How are you handling the news?

Nice hiking places you have overv there! We are in mandatory quarantine down here in Argentina, i was into a big trip when the news announced it and have to rush to "take refuge into civilization" (difficult to explain that being outdoors is safest to authorities, you know). Wow so stressful! Luckily we aren't in mandatory quarantine yet. But many trails are closing. Rightfully so, Richard and I have been trying our best time find trails that don't have a million cars at them! Being outdoors is great, and we encourage it, but if the trailhead is packed - best to find another trail! Stay safe and thank you for following.

Isn't it funny how you don't realize how much you'd miss something until it's gone? Really hope the world settles down soon. Hope you get a chance to get outside.

Although all of our trails haven't been closed yet, many have been due to the COVID-19 which is a real bummer since it's our primary hobby. It's also been raining the last few days so we are getting a bit stir-crazy over here! Thank you for watching

I agree! Mother Nature can be so healing and therapeutic. Is there a place you enjoy walking in? Even a walk around the neighborhood can help my mood. Hope you get to go hike soon!

The Jessie girard trail is one high on my list. I have seen some beautiful pics of the view with the river down below and it looks idyllic!!!!A lot of people don’t realize there are so many beautiful trails in Connecticut. I’m planning on doing the 50 hike challenge soon. I have a list of about 100 hikes in Connecticut I want to do. Thanks for sharing! Great video

It’s so beautiful! That hiking challenge sounds amazing. Richard grew up in CT and it’s where we met so it’s definitely near and dear to our hearts. Lots of beautiful hiking.

A nice video. There are countless trails in CT. The State of CT used to publish a tourism guide that listed many of them. Please be very careful of the ticks. I've had tick diseases 8 times because I live near Lyme. Good Luck, Rick

Hey there Richard, we’ve lived in the area our whole lives. Ticks, while dangerous, should not deter you from hiking. It’s important to do tick checks after each time in the woods and to wear protective clothing. Neither of us have gotten Lyme the time we’ve lived here.

@@WildandGrowing I was born in CT in 1951. My brother got Lyme in the 1980s. Do not take it lightly. My wife died from a tick disease(anaplasmosis) in 2017. I've seen several children get it and end up with lifetime problems.
In their nymph stage, the deer ticks are so small that they are easy to miss. There are at least 6 diseases carried by ticks in CT. A new tick has been found on the gold coast, just this year. It keeps getting worse.
I spray my yard with Cutter each April and treat my clothes every 3 weeks. Even so I had another case last March. It does not stop me from going in the woods but it has made me very cautious. Please be careful. Good Luck, Rick
