- The Quilter Superblock just started shipping to customers. It is being paired with the lightest most powerful speaker cabinet on the market, the TOOB Metro 6.5. The total combined weight of the rig is 5.5lbs

I recognize the tune. Nice take on You Stepped out of A Dream
Good to see another thumb player.
Thank you, Greg! For gearheads, the exact type of Greg's speaker cab is TOOB Metro 6.5GP (Guitar Ported)+, the suffix meaning it's loaded with a 130W SICA 6 L 1.5SL Neo speaker. This is actually a woofer clearing the lowest bass guitar / double bass frequencies in the Metro 6.5BG (Bass & Guitar) cab, which has more acoustic suspension. Greg likes a rather bright, vintage-style voicing, period-perfect for the music he mostly plays. It also cuts through in the occasionally noisy club venues. Many jazz guitarists choose the BG for its darker, rounder tone - and that elusive "thunk."
Thanks for that important info. I love the size and tone for the pound overall. I can see the trend with Henriksen Bud and this dominating the small club venues.
@@larrydering1598 Larry, you're right! If you don't need the Bud's second channel, the Quilter/Metro combination has a significant price and weight advantage. Moreover, the Quilter works on 24V DC, making it an option for buskers. There are rechargeable 24V power banks available, and e.g. the drone guys make their own battery packs all the time. No need to tote the charger around, just a battery pack or two.
It sounds so acoustic! What pickup is this?

Influential demo! Great sounding guitar. I tried one of these heads today. 24 volt pwr supply sounded full. 9 volt somewhat thinner. Tempting. Thnks
Thanks for posting. I already have the 6.5" Metro BG coupled with a tc electronics BAM200. It's nice to hear how it sounds with the Superblock. These little speakers and mini-amps are the greatest thing for portability I've ever seen without compromising on sound quality.
I agree completely!
Wow, stellar guitar playing! And you've solved two problems for me, 1) next amp, 2) next speaker cab. I've been looking at various combos for at least a year, and all the Jazz stuff I'm interested in is fairly expensive. So, thank you so much for this video, and I never new about Toob cabs until your video.
Great! Please say hi to Markku from Toob for me.
Love the playing and your rig. Great stuff.
Thank you!
This is the way-to-go. Nothing worse then Breaking-your back and getting a Hernia carrying-around heavy gear to-and-from a gig. It turns me off to performing live. This sounds fantastic. Lite & portable ( with great sound ) is the way to go.
What a great setup, sounds fantastic! Haven't seen that version of TOOB cabs before!
I see by your youtube channel that we share the same obsession with light weight gear! All the best in the continued pursuit!
@@guitarrug Haha yeah, you too!
I am about to pair a Superblock US with the TOOB 10S. The 6.5 Metro series is incredible!
The 6.5 is plenty for me. I never have to take out my 10t.
I love your playing. I'm very jealous of that guitar 🤩
Thank you!
You smoke!!! Cool jazz!!!
Great playing! That rig is sweet.
Thank you!
hadn't heard of the toob; great idea!
Thanks for posting this! All sounds great Greg! Beautiful playing and sound!! I'm also in NYC and have seen your name around but we haven't met yet. As I'm getting older carrying even an AER is losing it's charm. ZT Lunchbox is OK for weight but isn't the most versatile or best sounding amp. So I'm looking for other options and this seems like the best choice!! I have three questions: 1) Looks like you have the Toob Metro 6.5BG and not the Metro 6.5GP. Think you've probably tried them both so I'm wondering why you chose that speaker? 2) What do you use to carry this around? 3) Have you used this with battery power? Many thanks in advance and I look forward to meeting and hearing you in person now that the city is slowly coming back to life!
Hi Chris,
Thanks for the kind words. This is a metro GP+. It has the 130w sica but but has more ports in the back than the BG. I have a few different toobs. Reach out to me on Facebook, and we can meet up if you want to check them out. I carry it in a backpack, total weight with power supply is 6lbs, half the weight of the ZT. It will run off a 9v battery at 1w. Actually pretty loud, especially with the 10" Toob, you could gig with it on a battery. It's pretty awesome!
That's awesome. Not the style music I'm familiar with, but you do it very well. I'm really impressed with that Quilter Superblock amp. And that little speaker is super cool. Is that one frfr?
Hi! This is Markku from TOOB. The SICA 6 L 1.5SL is a 130W max. Neo woofer with a fairly linear response curve up to 4 kHz, then a dip but a new rise again around 6 kHz. Our parallel Metro 6.5FR cab houses a max. 130W, SICA 6 D 1.5SL dual-cone FRFR speaker which extends to 15 kHz. It has many applications from acoustic guitars, violin, harmonica, keyboards and vocals to personal/stage monitor in modeling/IR applications.
@@markkupietinen2732 very cool products.
Quality setup!
Great playing and sound! I've purchased the same TOOB, a GP model custom made with Eminence 602H speaker inside (great Markku!!): it sounds amazing with SuperBlockUS, '57 amp mode set (a really bargain) ... and my jazz boxes L5/L4! Thank you for your suggestions and sharing your gear... Which luthier's guitar do you play on clip? Greetings from Italy, Gregorio!
This guitar is a MkKerrihhan Anastasia. I've had it about 20 years.
I'm a fan!
Thank you!
Great playing Greg. I came across this because I was looking at the Superblock. These Toob speakers are cool! They don't appear to have a US dealer. I'm in Texas. What's the best way to order one like you are playing? Thanks. Great stuff.
Thank you! Contact toob directly at toob.fi, tell Markku that Greg sent you. All the best!
Beautiful played!! I am interested in this speaker and Quilter superblock US. How does it sounds on very low volume for late evening practise? I was thinking about the Yamaha THR or this combination. I don't play live at the moment, only studying jazz. I also would like to play backing tracks on it. Maybe with an extra toob 6.5 FR. I hope you can advise me. greetings from the Nettherlands
I would definitely go with the Toob/Quilter over the yahmaha. Sounds great at any volume, you can gig or play sessions with it, lighter weight, more professional.
Nice !!
Hey Greg, you sound great. How does this rig or your rig with the 12" fair with drummers in a trio or quartet with a horn player?
Thank you! With the 10" or 12" toob I can't imagine needing more volume then you can get with a superblock. With the metro, it's still good in almost any situation for me, as long as the band is reasonably sensitive. Maybe in a very noisy bar might be where you'd want the 10" or 12".
Beautiful sound and beautiful playing.
What about telecaster with this amp?
Sure, lots of tonal possibilities!
@@guitarrug Thanks. It's a nice notice. I love Bill Frisell sound and I need some gear more light of weight than my Roland jc120. I like dv mark jazz with archtops.
Can the SB be run to speaker and line out at the same time? Nice sounds!!!
Yes you can run both at the same time
@@guitarrug thanks! Thinking of this or the 45 watt Interblock. The Toob cab can be shipped to Puerto Rico,USA? Love your playing especially that you pick with your thumb!
@@tatialo37 definitely go for the superblock. It has more power and features than the interblock, even though it's rated at 25w. Contact Toob at toob.fi, I'm sure they will ship to you. Thanks, best wishes!
@@tatialo37 here's their email toobspeakers@gmail.com
@@guitarrug thanks again for the help and reply!!! Will follow your great advice!!!
Which amp mode do you use for this tone? 57, 61, or 65?
I only like to use the 57, the extra mids help in live situations
@@guitarrug Thanks. That's what I thought. I imagine a lot of playing of jazz tunes (not so much on chords since it gets masked out by other strings) if player likes to keep tone thick naturally may not use high E string a lot because even with a #12 in some register down the neck can sound thin. Some people turn their tone knob so much to avoid any thinness from high E string, unless the amp has quite a thick tone personality (perhaps with Polytone or may be some DV Mark) but since Quilter may not be as thick sounding, did you find you can find a good middle ground to not have a treble-dominated tone on high E string but at the same time have enough note definition on thicker strings (relying on mid-range tone density and mid-range tone expression)? Sorry. I hope I don't sound confusing.
Thanks for the demo. Wouldn’t you mind sharing your settings on Superblock amp for this tone?
Highs at 10 o'clock, mids at 2 o'clock, bass at 2 o'clock. Gain just under the breaking point when playing hard.
@@guitarrug Thanks a lot.
