It’s like seeing a Japanese craftsman putting his heart and soul his is work. Great video.
Your workmanship is also very very good...
Not only is the lamp beautiful, but so is the video. Well done, thanks for taking the time to share!
I really enjoy watching these builds.
Great video, Paul and great lamp. Thanks for sharing!
beautifully crafted Paul-love all the intricate pieces and chisel work..looks great!!🖒🖒
beautiful lamp, and very soothing video, thanks.
This is something I've always wanted to make. Great demonstration!
Nice lamp. Detailed editing and the whole project put together very well.
Dude, what a beautiful piece. Congrats!
Beautiful!!! Thank you very much for sharing with us!!!
Nice, beautiful, excellent. The music and the video were just as excellent as the lamp.
The best how-to video ever! Learned more from the Master than 10 other videos combined and then some!😌😁
Wonderful work - a joy to watch!
Breath taking beautiful...Keep up the artform.
Thank you for sharing...

Nice project and beautifully shot. Well done.
Gorgeous turned out the lamp. Like!
You've inspired me to try and copy your lamp. It's a beautiful thing and a superb video as well. Thanks!
Nice work Paul! Greatings from Sweden!

Extra ordinary skill in your hands, concentration and perfection 🙏👍👍👍👍
Na Mu Myo Ho Ren Ga Kyo 🙏
Well done, that's a beautiful lamp brother!
Now this is performance art making real art. An art form in it self.Wow,real mastery!👨🎨

👍👍👍.....beautiful !!!
Clean & precise.
Greetings from Malaysia.
Admire your work !!!
Very peaceful and relaxing.
I agree. After a long day, watching this video with the background music was just what I needed.
Well done. Excellent job.
Excellent lamp, excellent video!
awesome project!
Beautiful camera angles for a beautiful lamp. Fantastic job Paul!
What??
Great job!
Beautiful build and video Paul. Really enjoyed this one, it made me smile on a shit day. Cheers.
Would you believe I still haven't made a lamp for my bed side table? I need to revisit this project but with the extra knowledge I've gained since v1!
Great job man!
Amazing craftsmanship!
I like it! Very nice! Thank you.
Very nice lamp!
awesome tools!
It is very, very nice!
great work
at the start, i genuinely thought that the sound the machine was making was part of the music coz it fit in so well lmaoo
That glamourshot lasted about a nanosecond.
nicely done video. very suggestive lamp.Compliments.
Great video Paul, beautiful lamp, I just might have to try my hand at making one too. Thanks!
when you do, I suggest getting a 3mm (~1/8") or so sized chisel. The table saw setup to get the half laps right takes a *long* time, and gives you very little room to tweak it. A dozuki and 3mm chisel is how I'll be doing the next lamp.
Love it.
Very nice lamp.
gorgeous i have just started designing some screens and this beautiful video has helped me decided a couple of things on how i want to build it
If you want inspiration for screens, google 'desmond king shoji'. The guy is freaking nuts. Has two or three books on the matter too, I'll own them one day!
just looked it up , damn those are beautiful , so much time goes into those how would you even go about pricing a work of art like some of those he has , the books now are necessity lol
great work .I like it
Brilliant..
Me gusta mucho su trabajo, 👏👏👏
Just bumped into the one and I and making my first lamp. Can you share details on the light please?
Paul, are the Kumiko strips 1/8” or 1/4” or another size? Looks like you had two blade kerfs for your half lap? Also, you mentioned wanting to use a dozuki and chisel instead next time. Why so?
Awesome....You have a great collection of machines and tools. Could you please give exact dimensions at every stage so that anybody making it without help of machines can make it...?
Very nice...
4:45-4:50 great camera work.
الله . الله . عليك يا فنان
thank you. ..thanks
Hi nice job very neat, what type of paper did you use ,thanks,
Graeme.
why did you spray the paper after glueing it on?
A stunning piece and I would love to try and make one, just as soon as my shop is obove zero =)
Super
Hi, tell me where can I buy Washi paper? I can’t find what I need for Andon in Russia ...
Can you tell me dimesion of lamp? Very good work.
I was falling asleep with this song😂
This is fuckin rad. Dope channel. Subbed.
Plans?
Led lamp??? What kind?
Excellence Mr. Jenkins. I'm getting ready to use mulberry paper for my first attempt at shoji lamps. Any tips for attaching the paper? Is normalTtitebond (blue) wood glue ok? Looks like you cut the paper large by 3/4, applied glue and spritz it twice with the water bottle. Thanks for sharing- again superb work.
I'm not sure. I used riceglue. I can't see Titebond II having an issue, though III might be better. The water spritzing is to 'tension' it after the fact.
Hey, can I use wax paper instead of shoji paper?
so nice, so berry berry nice.
Very nice lamp. Can you please tell me what the red-brown wood is thanks.
Pierre
its Forest Red Gum (E. tereticornis)
Thanks for your reply.
I have a tons of scrap pieces of that wood, but no one has been able to tell me what it is.
And thanks again, now at last I know
Y did you cut the strips on the bandsaw and not the table saw?
They were pretty small at 10x5mm. They could have been done on the tablesaw, but it felt safer with the bandsaw
Beautiful as always and very inspiring. However you should have had about 10-15 seconds at the end showing off the lamp instead of the half second. Thank you
Links to items used in description would be nice
Wood, paper and glue from a store I can't recommend because I had a really bad experience with them, and LEDs from eBay/China.
Early next year I'll be making another lamp, with a proper tutorial.
Great Work! WHy did you wet the paper though?
It makes the paper go taut and removes any wrinkles
+Paul Jenkins oh Sweet, cheers!
If i may make a suggestion use a rubber hammer on delicate work
canggih canggih alatnya boi
That is beautiful, may I ask what kind of paper did you use?
It's "shoji paper", which I believe is mulbury pulp? www.thewoodworks.com.au/shop/consumable/shoji-paper/paper-shoji-plain-1-roll-280mm-x-188metres-46gsquare-metre-716100-detail I think thats what I bought, but its been many many years
@@TheWoodKnight thanks a lot!
Like for trick with tapering thin strips befor cuttin into size
Nice vid. why did you spray it?
+sam henderson it tensions the paper as it dries
Was the paper rice paper Cheers from Ireland
как пила называется?
what kind of papper you use?
"Shoji paper", also known as rice paper or mulberry pulp paper.
+Paul Jenkins thanks very good job
What is musics name please
What is this spray on paper ???? water ??
Carlos Rodrigues probably
yes
In my opinion, you went through all that work to make it, and only show it off for like 5 seconds
Ditto show it off man
The video has folk music, and the process is made with power tools
xDD
From an ol fart wood worker👍👍👍👍
Hi Paul, great video! Can you please share dimensions of the lamp I want to try to make it?
Ахуительно!
MY FINGERS DONT HAVE BANDAGES
WONDER WHY???
You probably don't have a cat?
Тиси. Цар

I like it, but the frame looks too chunky.
your methods are quite unorthodox, and you need to take more time and pay attention to detail more. But over all great video. simple and beautiful.
I thought he did an excellent job, and just because it's not your way doesn't mean it's not right.... awesome video and I'll be making some lamps in the near future using some of your methods.
bollocks. i didn't see anything from his methods that stood out as unorthodox. nothing worse than an arm chair woodworker. Paul you did a great job. Hope you don't mind if i recreate it?
+teh40oz go for it! If you're more talented than me, look up Desmond king's books on Kumiko if you want more authentic patterns
Thanks for the book recommendation! also, subscribed!
Please short your video next time.
