9/10 is absolutely genius. The joke itself doesn't even come anywhere near offensive, but it plays on the expectations of a jaded audience. It's basically metacommentary about offensive jokes turned into a pun. Brilliant.

Yo
I would love to see your own interpretation of offensive bowling animations
The 'Spare'd' school one from the last video and 9/10 are definitely my favorite ones of these. Both are done so well and don't actually show anything bad, they take a moment to sink in.
Niko has definitely mastered the art of slightly offensive.
The 9/10 is brilliant, you've got the "wait, this is a 9/11 joke right, but where's the second pin?" the slow build-up, the anticlimax and then the pun tying it all together

The 300 one seems like it could become a legendary easter egg people come to the bowling alley to try to get.
People would flock to the rumor that if you bowl a perfect game, you'll get a secret cutscene
I went to my other account just so I can be like 300
They seriously try licensing that one to Big Bowling.
It's not even offensive
I was not expecting it to be as graphic as it was, but as long as there aren't young kids, should be fine.
@@creatorcuber Someone bowls a perfect game while there's a birthday party or school group at the bowling alley.
I love that... being offensive requires no art, being Slightly offensive requires art because you know where to draw the line in a fun way. The same principle can be applied to a lot of things.
Also I feel like this can apply to satirical humor as well. If you want to joke about something and call it satire, don't focus so hard on making it offensive that it outweighs any humorous aspects or any ability to spur discussion of or interest in an idea
Smallpox blanket jokes aren't slightly offensive, they are extremely offensive
@@jackcooke2327 I don't think these videos are for you my man
@@Later_Nerd I'm not saying I'm upset by it, it's just not really in the spirit of the game, just kinda lame
It also shows that the person is pretty aware of social norms and other people's comfort levels... as opposed to just being a morally shit human being who therefore would struggle more with being able to accurately locate that line.
Something that helps is the goofiness. Also only alluding to the thing if it's too much to show (9/11 one fits there). Also very important is to clearly indicate who the immoral characters are. With the bus one, there's drinking. With the blankets there's a mean thug look on their faces. Otherwise it can come across as laughing WITH the immoral characters in a cringe edgy teenager way.
I personally feel that it was Niko who best encapsulated the concept of the assignment.
Agree. Jordan's is good, very good, but it touches the subject directly, while Niko's plays with the expectation in the viewer's mind. It is more creative and works on a visceral, rather than graphic, internal level.
Didn’t he make the assignment?
9/12 i agree
The first one, the plane crash was not offensive at all, but he got the essence of the rendering down pat from that. The second one, the um... school one... He used implications. So it was offensive without actually showing anything. And this one, the plane flying past the building, subversion of expectations. Also the fantastic coincidental pun of "9/10", chef's kiss. Another thing that a lot of them forget is that these are supposed to be bowling screen animations. They're supposed to be short. Imagine finishing your turn and have to watch a feature length film before someone else goes.
In every aspect, Niko passed with absolutely flying colours.
“I don’t mind human tragedy, as long as there’s a twist.” -Man’s last words
Like being run over by an ambulance or when a fire truck catches fire
but here is the twist, it's his last words because he became a monk and he is not allowed to talk
Instead of the towers collapsing, we have them fly off into the sky and grow wings, becoming the plane.
@@redwiltshire1816 or a cop car gets graffiti.
Jordan goes for genocide every time.
Nico wins this one. Turning subverted expectations into a punchline. 9/10.
I see what you did there
Definitely the best one..
Just saw it on instagram lol
I agree, he's got a bucket loaded full of talent, actually, it's more like a bin laden with talent, but I have to admit it was a quick judgement in his favor, almost feels like an inside job.
@@GrugTheJust LMAO
The 300 one was a beautiful cinematic piece, and a great pun, but nowhere near offensive lmao
It felt like a Robot Chicken sketch.
especially knowing the amount of people desensitized of gore now.
but it still is a cinematic masterpiece. if this one doesn’t get an oscar, nothing can
Yeah seriously. I kept thinking "this isn't offensive this is just awesome". If it weren't for the blood most people would be fine showing this to their kids (who would mostly like not get the reference).
I know for a fact there is a Greek writhing in pain from that.
Maybe it would have offended some spartans back in their time, but this is the present, nobody alive is offended by that
I still want to see Jordan's offensive one from the first episode, even though cutting to the audience and not showing what is was, is a complete masterpiece.
Fr, it’s dumb how stuff like the holocaust and 9/11 are fine but they draw the line at domestic violence 💀
@@cheddarsunchipsyes8144 oh shoot!
That didn't cross my mind!
@cheddarsunchipsyes8144 based on what we heard, it sounded pretty prolonged and graphic compared to the other jokes
If I ever meet some of them face to face I need to ask them to show it to me lol
I think Niko's and Jordan's would be my pick in this episode. It was long overdue, we finally get a 9/11 joke and it was amazing. It didn't went over the line, it was perfect. The joke even landed, with "9/10".
hah, landed.

9 out of eleven
9/10 is still the best one of these to ever come out.
9/10 is the best. Short, harsh, with unexpected twist - perfect. Niko is the winner.
I also liked the "300" animation concept, but it was waaaaaaay too long. It should have been 10 times shorter. Something like fast massacre with blood splatters and body parts flying like in the movie.
To be fair, since you only get '300' for a perfect game, it would fit with the length imho.
If it were for something less spectacular, then I do agree
The main thing is, most people are so desensitised to gore that it ain’t even slightly offensive.
@@NiKo44433yeah I thought the same thing. Gore isn’t sensitive in the internet age, and Thermopylae is too far removed from the modern day for anyone to be offended by it.
@@NiKo44433 Thats a good point because I literally thought "what's offensive about this." IMO its even less offensive since the gore is how the movie was as well.
Niko's is by far the most clever. Literally nothing bad happens in it and it's still like OOOOHHHHH SHIT
The only thing really missing from the real bowling animations is the low framerate. At the bowling alley they're usually rendered at 10 fps or so
That’s true! Also sometimes horrible frame tearing.
And the first and last frames linger for a few seconds
Niko's 9/10 animation was so good, the expectation and twist at the end was perfect, literally pull and release
Just like WTC7!
i found it in the wild
I think Jordan really took Sam's advice to heart. The animation and sound effect of the Natives dying already took some edge off, but that punchline was *chef's kiss*
Niko, that deserves a standing ovation. It's all expectation without actually doing anything wrong at all. Genius. And Jordan's was so messed up but killed me too
Nico is a master at show not tell with these. Which is perfect for riding that line
I think he's really good at specifically not showing, but trusting the audience to be smart enough that he doesn't have to show. He sets the scene, and lets the audience figure it out themselves. in contrast to the car one, where we see everything, and it's just kinda eh.
Niko's animation regarding being ON the line... 10/10
nah it's 9/10

This needs to be an ongoing series.
It should be like the VFX Artists React series.
Honestly tho, Niko's cut was so much more "in line" than Jordan's
I honestly found it difficult to laugh with them during Jordan's animation. The horrific irony of a bunch of white guys making light of something the US is still in the wrong for, and then following it up with an overly enthusiastic "on the line!!!" applause. The whole situation just hurts a bit.
Niko's had an offensive implication given the context, but still paid respect to the tragedy. If Jordan had gone with a similar approach such that christie columbus just missed South America with "Spared"/"Zero" displayed over Indigenous people (or something along those lines), it would've had a similar effect to Niko's.
@@jared- lmao get offended bro
@@jared-every single nation on this planet came out of conquest.
@majorhumbert676 History is full of tragedies, yes. Making light of one of the more recent ones to such an extent (the U.S. is comparatively young) is a bit tasteless. As I said, the topic doesn't need to be avoided, but at least acknowledging the severity of it, (i.e. narrowly avoiding it, as Niko did) without simply recreating it verbatim, is a better way to ride the slightly offensive line instead of the saddening line.
@@jared- I thought the reaction was a little weird, but I loved the animation itself because to me it seemed like the only one with real social commentary.
This one subverts expectations three times:
- First, by portraying American pilgrims as villains (Even though attitudes towards Columbus are changing, the religious pilgrims still tend to be deified)
- Second, by connecting the pilgrims to YOU (you're the one who threw the ball, after all)
- Third, by bringing up Thanksgiving. It's not that the game is mocking you for being a descendant of the settlers -- YOU celebrate this every year of your own accord.
I'm not sure if the crew understood this, but I think it was intentional on Jordan's part.
I've waited my entire life for another one! Thanks
